I have been to many B&Bs over the years but I was not ready for what I experienced at Stone Oak Tree Farm. I had one of the most incredible travel experiences of my life there. Sometimes you book a place based on a couple of photos, the price, location, and a few reviews (like this one). But this didn’t adequately prepare my friend and I for how wonderful it was to be here for our stay.||||The accommodations are first rate. You are actually staying on a working Christmas tree farm, and the trees are growing right outside the windows. Below the guest rooms is the welcome center/antique shop for the business. The space is the top floor of barn the owners built by hand, and the craftsmanship and care they took into building and decorating it are over the top. The white oak floors (all timber from their property milled by hand by them) and careful placing of the exposed-beam ceiling. The décor is simple and rustic, but never in a kitschy kind of way, but a way that makes you feel comfortable and relaxed, like you don’t want to get up and leave. The accommodations are first-rate, with full bathrooms in each bedroom, a full kitchen (not a basic kitchenette, but a kitchen you could make Thanksgiving dinner in, if you needed to), comfy beds, a working gas fireplace, and a common area that’s so homey American I thought Martha Stewart was going to turn up. Looking outside the windows you are surrounded by pine and oak trees.||||The owners, Natalie and Richard, are the BEST. They really, really care about this business, and it shows 110%. Natalie brought out the breakfast and it was marvelous. She was so warm and friendly, and had great recommendation for things to see and do in the region. Richard runs the farm and had loads of stories about the area and the house. They gave us a tour of the whole operation, and it was fascinating. If we didn’t have to get to a meeting, we would have stayed and hung out with Natalie and Richard all day. I have never ever had hosts in any kind of rental situation like this, and it reminded me of the Ireland B&B I was in where the host asked if I wanted to go to Mass with her family (I did). Natalie and Richard are in a class like you’d only imagine. We hated to leave and go on our way. And when we did, my friend had a plate of Natalie’s cookies, and Richard gave me a bag of fresh onions, tomatoes, and garlic grown in their garden.||||If you are contemplating a stay in the region, make a trip to Stone Creek Tree Farm. I am still in awe of what a wonderful weekend...

Read moreI was initially seeking a month long housing option in the area as I am a medical student doing a rotation at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, NY. My initial housing plans fell through and Rich and Natalie were right there to help me out in a crunch. I rented one of the three bedrooms for an entire month while I was there for a rotation. It is about a 15 minute drive into Middletown, NY and very close to restaurants and supermarkets. I had a fantastic stay and had no complaints. There are three individual bedrooms all with on-suite private bathrooms and a shared living space, kitchen, deck, and dining room. Each room is equipped with a TV, air conditioner, and fast wi-fi. There is a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need to cook a complete meal if staying in. There were no laundry machines on-site for extended stay renters but a nice clean laundromat down the road. The barn is located down a gravel driveway adjacent to the owner’s property. The rooms and living spaces are located on the second floor of a two storied barn with the first floor being space to sell Christmas trees during the winter. The barn is located on a 150 acre Christmas Tree farm which includes walking and hiking trails. Richard and Natalie were the kindest people and checked in and made sure I was okay and had everything I needed each and every day. Natalie would also frequently leave fresh vegetables from the garden in the morning to use for snacking or cooking. By the end of the month we all became good friends and they even invited me over for a homemade Italian dinner. This gorgeous B&B was built using peg and beam technique by Rich and his family and took over 13 years to complete. Stone Oak Tree Farm B&B is truly a hidden gem and is definitely worth the experience to stay for a night if you’re traveling through the area, a romantic weekend getaway, or month long stay option...
