One of the best spots for leaf peeping with easy access. Actually they have four lifts, but the main chair is what is used by most people and gives you availability to all the trails. Very challenging skiing if you are looking for it, but they have something for everyone even beginners. Lots of glades and wood skiing if you need to go off the beaten path and when it snows, watch out. Very nice people, never too crowded, best deal in the Adirondacks. Update 2/6/22. Most days I love McCauley mountain. A couple of new things. Been a difficult season with lack of natural snow. They do a very good job with the man made though. Anyway, we had a big dump on Thursday 2/3, 16". Friday was very nice although the POW was a little funky. No complaints just mentioning. People came out in swarms Saturday and Sunday which is good for the mountain to generate revenue, but those that came are not skiers and likely never will be. They have no clue of the etiquette or rules of skiing and do not care. They feel they are entitled and will do whatever they want. For those of us who know and ski regularly it sucks. They jump in line and don't care. They have no idea how to double up when they are a single, stand in the middle of the trail and don't care and if you try to bring it to there attention they look at you like you have two heads and there kids are even worse. If you think there are things wrong in this world now, WAIT. We are in trouble. The staff is excellent, but they don't see much of this and just let it happen. They are trying hard and make it work to generate revenue. Oh well, most people who have skied before or grew up skiing get it and a for the most part very nice, helpful and respectful to others. Folks if you go skiing understand the etiquette and rules. Educate you children and most of all have fun so everyone else has fun or...
Read moreNice view, and worth the $10, BUT...the attendants at the bottom of the chairlift were rude as hell (no, I'm not exaggerating)! At 4:55, I kindly told them that there's a family still on the mountain, and that someone should make sure that they're not stranded on top (because the attendants on top never saw the family of 6 walking away from the pickup area on top)! The wise guy said in a loud voice..."DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT, WE KNOW WHAT WE'RE DOING!!". Sure buddy...sure you do! A monkey could do their job! You'd think that they'd thank me for letting them know about a family who could be stranded near the top of the mountain, but they decided to be very rude!! Manners go a long way folks...try it sometime! By the way, riders do NOT need to be told to raise the blue safety bar when exiting, or to "Step off to the right!" NO $HIT. Like I said, the view was awesome and worth the $10, but the attitude of the attendants...
Read moreGreat place for skiiing!! You get affordable rates for a full day pass. Parking was free and secured. The best thing is service and food offered by a small restaurant, that is at foot of the skiiing hill. The people working there were warm, welcoming and ready to help. I ordered fried haddock fish with chips and coleslaw. The fish was fresh and tasty. About skiiing, i believe there are 5-6 different trails with different difficulty levels. Since this was my first time, i was mostly on the beginner's trail for the whole day; but i can assure you the other trails are daring and thrilling; as i was with one of my friend who is an expert and also a regular visitor at this place. You can rent most of the stuff for skiiing.Overall, it is a right and fun place to be. And yes, they do provide training for beginner. And last but not the least, there were people being trained for skiing...
