The hotel was more out of the way from my route than I realized, so it took me longer to find than I expected. From the outside it looked new, as its complex is really the only thing within a couple of miles, but it's been around long enough for a (much needed) overhaul, which is currently going on. The 3rd floor has not been redone yet, and the hallway carpet is full of stains of unknown origin and really stinks. I chose this location because the website indicated that the on-site restaurant offered room service. I absolutely hate eating by myself in restaurants, and was only stopping for the night rather than pressing on home because I was not feeling well, so I wanted this option. When I got to my room, the info book stated the same thing, so I selected something from the menu and called, only to be told they don't do room service. There's also an attached convenience store that has a pizza and subs place inside, so I thought I'd give them a try and do some takeout (no other options anywhere near by). Then, at least, I could take it back to my room. Got there to find that their hot sandwiches require a call-ahead, unlike other sub places that have supplies at the ready. Since I would have had to wait anyway, I went ahead to the restaurant, and was taken to a table in the middle of the restaurant, where the only option was that I sit facing everyone. (Remember, I am an introvert and hate eating alone in restaurants, and I was not feeling well!!) I ordered a french dip sandwich asking to hold the onions and cheese. Of course, they neglected to do so, but were great about redoing it. However, they also neglected to put the acompanying baked potato under a warmer, so when my plate was returned with the correct sandwich, it was cold. Oh well. Got back to my room and grabbed the ice bucket. Good thing they provide a plastic liner bag, because it was filthy. The room itself, though, is comfortable and nicely appointed though not with the coming upcates. I won't, however, make the mistake of staying here again - too far off my route and the amenities I was expecting don't exist. I did let the front desk know that their book and website need to be corrected and updated, though from other reviews I have read from over the course of several months, it isn't the first time they've received...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed here twice, three weeks apart. We booked the king suite with whirlpool on both occasions. However, two totally opposite experiences.||Our first stay was incredible and relaxing - room #123. Everything worked as expected and the whirlpool was awesome.||||Our subsequent stay was very unexpected and disappointing. After a long drive, we were looking forward to relax and enjoy our room - #125. We did not have any Kleenex in the bathroom - went to front desk to get a replacement box. Also, the bathroom sink was not draining correctly. Later in the evening we were filling up the whirlpool and found the drain was not sealing correctly and we could not stop the water from draining. Then realized there was no hot water supply - only tepid water! Another trip to the front desk. An apology and no maintenance person on site. No replacement room near ours. She was pleasant and offered to reduce our rate by $30.||||We woke up in the morning with no electrical power to our room - only bathroom light, ceiling pot light, and room heating unit were working. No lamps, fridge, microwave or television! Another trip to the front desk. The attendant very quickly located the electrical panel in the hallway and attempted to reset, to no avail. No maintenance person on site. We checked out later in the morning with no resolve.||||We were astonished and disappointed with all the issues we encountered on our second stay. While the reduction in our rate was appreciated, it does nothing to replace our expected experience.||||A learning experience for sure. Two rooms, side by side. Contacted the hotel manager by e-mail. ||||I also reached out to Choice Hotels - customer support. Amazing response, apology, and credit of points to our rewards account. Much appreciated!||||Update: ||||The hotel manager replied eleven days later with a sincere apology, a plan to address staff responses to guest issues, and a full refund for the price of the room.||||Would probably stay here again. Good location. Gas, restaurant, and bar all under one roof - connected...
