This is definitely the place for a low-key "up north" vacation, set in a peaceful idyllic setting. The staff is friendly, there is coffee in the morning and they are happy to help you find your destination or place to eat. It's a nice quiet place, in a nice quiet setting. The view of the lake is spectacular, do yourself a favor and definitely take out one if the rowboats. This seems like a great place to write a book, or just to get in touch with yourself. I would say by far, this is the best hotel in a very wide area, and makes a great base camp for exploring the area. Birch trees 🌳 abound on the property, which probably leads to its name.

There will be a bar and restaurant, but right now, if you want food or drink, remember to bring it along or pick something up at nearby stores. Sitting by the fire 🔥 at night, people were eating, drinking, talking, making s'mores. All rooms have small refrigerators.

The fully restored main building itself used to be some sort of facility, and its repurposement as a hotel is perfect. The main building possesses a century old charm, with high ceilings, wood floors, rooms features large windows and updated bathrooms. A second floor balcony provides a great view of the grounds and the lake.

There is also a mid-century modern motel next door (part of the same business), fully restored. In my stay there, I found the room pleasant, with small touches like the retro styling, mini fridge, and plenty of hot water and shower pressure. Each motel room features a dedicated seating area with a spectacular view of the lake.

Coronavirus: Each motel room has a dedicated entrance and shares no airspace with adjoining rooms. The main hotel has common areas, but they are large and people tending to hang outside on the porch, lakefront or balcony. All rooms (lodge and hotel) have windows with screens that open, helping you maintain fresh air. As a precautious person, I felt comfortable and safe at Birch Lodge.

I do not recommend any indoor dining in the area, as local bars do not seem to have any concern or precautions in place. You should just bring a couple bottles and wine and enjoy the lake anyway, that's much more fun. Even wearing a mask to get takeout was greeted with...

Beautiful historic hotel with adorable 1960’s themed motel on the property as well. I coordinated a family reunion at this resort. All together we had three rooms in the lodge and three rooms in the motel. This was a fantastic place to stay! With the two separate buildings, the prices fit most budgets. We loved the adorable mid-century modern motel rooms with so many little touches that made them just right. The rooms in the lodge were incredibly beautiful and decorated to keep them in the style of the original time period. Our suite, number 12, was so beautifully decorated! The bathroom was amazing both in layout and little touches. The double shower makes us want to renovate our own bathroom! The mattress was very comfortable, so comfortable, in fact, that my sister and brother in law are planning to buy that brand for themselves after spending the week in number 4. The sitting room was a comfortable place where we could relax and chat. Jim and Carol are very kind and helpful hosts. Extra blankets, extra firewood, dishes or silverware for food that you bring, they are committed to ensuring that you have the best time possible. The fire pit was our gathering place every evening, and Jim kept us supplied with plenty of firewood. The private beach was small, but more than large enough to accommodate every visitor in the hotel should they all decide to use it at once. The trail through the woods was lovely, and gave us a welcome respite where we could hear nothing but the train whistle and the birds in the trees. The lake was so beautiful, peaceful, and quiet, the small pier in front of the hotel was a calming place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. |The location is central for most Notable Northern Michigan destinations such as Taquaminam Falls, Whitefish Point, St. Ignace, Sault Saint Marie, and Munising. |In Trout lake you can get groceries at the market or have meals at the Buckhorn or the family restaurant.|Overall, we will absolutely be back! We may even come in the winter to enjoy ice fishing and...

LOVED the LODGE and Room #12 is Dreamy

My husband and I were celebrating our 27th anniversary this month and back in April I booked us a Yurt in Paradise, MI. One week before we were to leave the owner emailed me advising me he cancelled my reservation due to damage to the Yurt, refunded my money and apologized for the trouble. WOW..I freaked out and scrambled to find another place thinking I had just lost the best place EVER. WOW was I WRONG...I found room #12 at The birch Lodge and Motel and booked it from the pictures online. We didn't expect much being it was a last minute reservation but it said Lake View and I was IN!!! We were pleasantly surprised upon arrival from first meeting "Jack" (the owners sweet dog) and then Jim (the owner) who welcomed us with open arms. Jim proceeded to provide some history on the Lodge and it sucked me right in. I LOVE historic places and this place ticks off all the boxes. The room was very clean, the bed was sooooo comfy and with lots of pillows. The view was truly lake front and they have boats you can use while staying there. The sitting room off to the left was cozy and has a fridge for your beverages. There are some small snacks and water in the room for guests to have. The bathroom is amazing with a LARGE two person shower and little bottles of shampoo, conditioner and lotion...and they smell wonderful. Jim and Carol provide coffee, oatmeal and fruit in the mornings and are available for any questions or can give suggestions on where to eat etc. The main dining area at the Lodge is open for guests to use as they like. It has a working piano and two juke boxes! The Lodge is decorated so perfectly, just like back in the day! It seems that Jim and Carol have poured lots of time and love into the place. Finally, Jim made sure we had wood for a bonfire in the evening and even came out for a bit and joined us guests around the fire. We are so glad to have found this special place and we will be back!!! 10 out of 10!!! Thanks again to Jim and Carol, you are the hosts with the...

During our recent visit to Mackinac Island, my friends and I had the pleasure of staying at Birch Lodge at Trout Lake, and it was an excellent choice. The lodge is conveniently located just a 30-40 minute drive from Mackinac Island, making it an ideal base for exploring the area. It was truly a steal with great value for money. The rooms at Birch Lodge are simply amazing, exuding a charming rustic vibe that adds to the overall experience. The common spaces are cozy and perfect for relaxing and hanging out, which worked out wonderfully for our group of four. One thing to note is that there are no restaurants nearby, so it's best to plan ahead and bring takeaway food. Fortunately, the lodge provides a dining space where we enjoyed our takeaway dinner comfortably. This was a minor inconvenience compared to the many positives the lodge offers. They had outdoor seating area with fire pits near the lake. It provided a beautiful setting to unwind and enjoy the natural surroundings. However, we were not prepared for the abundance of mosquitoes that came out after dark, which unfortunately limited our ability to fully enjoy the outdoor space. One of the standout features of Birch Lodge is the free kayaking and paddling equipment provided by the host. This added an extra layer of fun to our stay, allowing us to explore Trout Lake at our leisure. The lodge is family-run, and the owner was very friendly and helpful, adding a personal touch to our stay. However, on the day of check-out, we did have a less-than-pleasant experience with the hostess, who became cranky and passed some harsh comments for no apparent reason. While this was an unfortunate end to an otherwise great stay, it didn't overshadow the overall positive aspects of our visit. Overall, Birch Lodge at Trout Lake is a fantastic place to stay, offering great value for money. With its comfortable rooms, inviting common areas, and beautiful outdoor amenities, it's a perfect spot for a relaxing getaway. Just remember to bring some mosquito repellent for those evening hours!

Really adorable and delightful place! Came here in winter for a last-minute trip and took advantage of the lower rates. We got in just after sunset, and one of the owners came out to meet us and chatted for a bit. Super nice guy, and you could tell he loved the place. We stayed in the 60s-era motel, and were impressed with the quality of the restoration. Absolutely spotless with fun decor and original furniture. Very cute retro vibe with modern amenities. Beautiful setting right on the lake with lots of birch. Only complaint is that the bed frames were very squeaky, so I woke up a lot. Otherwise, awesome! Took a peek in the lodge, also beautifully restored and well-decorated. Somebody has a good sense of interior decor! Highly recommend a stay here. Would love to come back to stay in the main lodge.
