Serendipity is defined as an occurrence and development of event by chance in a happy or beneficial way. Well it was definitely serendipitous that I came upon to stay at the Journey's Salon and Guest House. My friends and I were looking for a last min lodging for our Jay Peak ski trip on the Valentine's Day long weekend. We didn't start looking for lodging until just under a week before that weekend. Because we waited so long, all the usual slope side and nearby lodges were completely booked. So I started searching for the anything that was reasonably close to Jay Peak and reasonable in price. As it turned out EVERYTHING was booked except for this little gem. Again as luck would have it, Julie the proprietor had two or her three rooms available for us to rent that weekend, so I snapped them up. As it turned out, it was one of the most pleasant stays I've had. My connection with Journey's began quite pleasantly with conversation with Julie as to when I should pay for the two rooms I had just booked. I just assumed that most proprietors would like at least a down payment especially when booking at such a last min. Julie however is a trusting soul, and informed me that I wouldn't have to pay until we checked in; how nice! For our first day, we went from Toronto, straight to Jay Peak for our first day of snowboarding, it was a decent day, with some chances at riding some fresh powder that fell the night before; next we spent the rest of the day at Jay Peak's new indoor water park, it was a blast! After the waterpark we were ready to get some dinner and much needed rest. To get to Journey's Salon & Guest from Jay couldn't be easier, you just follow the 242 down the mountain east until it ends at hwy 101, then you turn left and head to North Troy, a small charming little town just to the North East of Jay Peak. The total trip didn't take more than 15 min. As North Troy came up, even in the dark it was quick turn on to N. Pleasant St, and right at the intersection of Railroad St, and N. Pleasant, there is Journeys, julie has a small but well light sign that makes it very easy for even traveler's that are unfamiliar with the area to find her place. When we arrived, there was plenty of parking, and the front door was well light and welcoming. Julie was waiting inside for us and greeted us at the door, as well as Snow the home's welcoming committee. Upon entering Journey's I felt immediately as ease, Julie is a great host, and made us feel like Journey's is a home away from home. We were quite hungry after a long day on the hill as well as the water park, we were hoping to find some place that would hopefully still be open. As it turns out Julie knew of a gourmet restaurant that was just a short walk from Journey's! again how serendipitous! We got our keys for our rooms in these very cute key bowls, a very nice touch. The rooms are exactly as you see in the photos, tastefully decorated, and subtlety following the theme of the era's hairstyle for which each room is named. What you can't tell from the photos, is the home smells clean and comfortable, I have a dust allergy, and there wasn't a speck of dust in sight. Just a well kept, tastefully decorated, comfortable home that reflects the eclectic tastes of the owner. All the modern conveniences are present, free Wifi, big screen TV. But it does not detract from the curious and interesting pieces of art that adorn the walls in this beautiful, comfy and cozy...
Read moreJourney's Salon & Guest House must be the Northeast Kingdom's best kept secret! We were so thankful we found Julie and Snow's lovely home in North Troy for our stay and if we ever make another trip back East, we will definitely be making our reservations at Journey's! Julie and her sweet lil' dog, Snow, made us and our two dogs, Max and Molly, feel welcome and at home from the very start. The home is beautiful, comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. The walls, throughout the house, are decorated with art from a variety of artists, including Julie, and it's all for sale. There's a deck off the back of the house with a fenced-in yard for the dogs to explore. The back yard area was quiet, peaceful and private, lined with flowers and greenery. It was the perfect place to relax on a beautiful summer's day. Julie prepared a breakfast for us each morning of fresh fruit, hard boiled egg, cheese and coffee which we thought was just perfect for us! She also shared her kitchen, if we wanted to prepare other meals for ourselves. The room was comfortable and more importantly, the mattress was. Julie also invited me into her salon one morning and added some coconut oil to my natural curly hair! I felt like I was staying with a very good friend or with a close family member! If you have dogs or not and you're looking for a fabulous, relaxing place to stay in the Northeast Kingdom, you have to give Journey's Salon & Guest House a try. You'll be so...
Read moreI have been doing some tough hiking on the nearby Vermont Long Trail, and Journey's was a wonderful place to spend the cold evenings. My room was clean and incredibly home-style compared to a standard motel room. You can see Julie's personal touch of love and peacefulness throughout the home, including the guest rooms. Julie welcomed my little hiking dog and made available food and water dishes and an extra sheet to spread on the bed so my pup could sack out in style. Breakfast is a buffet of cheese and fruit. She lets the guests use her kitchen (which saves on going to restaurants) and you can relax in the living room and enjoy a Netflix movie. Wifi is available and fast. I would definitely come here again. (I would urge all finishing up the Long Trail at the Canadian border to give...
