Booked this campground from the UK for two nights in late September, a week before it was due to close for the season. That should have acted as a warning what to expect! Had chosen this campground over others nearer to Lake Tahoe in the expectation it would be quiet and not too crowded. Yes to the second, no to the first! A lot of noise audible from the highway as it happens. They did advise that only RVs up to 30' were permitted; we therefore had the maximum size allowed, and to be honest, the slot that I had chosen (from a simple on-line diagram) was really not suitable for a 30-footer, due to be being on a slight bend and with trees either end of the slot - hubby couldn't manoeuvre the van close enough to be out of the way of other vehicles. Luckily, as the site was so quiet, we moved to another, better placed slot and informed the ranger on duty, who did not make a fuss about our switching. Campground is as 'primitive' as described on the website - vault toilets were adequate, but the air temperature late evening and early morning was close to freezing, and therefore put night-time trips to the WC out of the question......we also felt cold all night in our bunk! So much so, we decided to move to a commercial campsite for the second night. Had we been there in a warmer season, I'm sure we would have enjoyed the experience of being 'back to...
Read moreDrove a couple hours to this place, as it was one of the only sites open in the Tahoe area. Stayed there before (not one of my favorites) but campsite 9 is large and close to the river. Spent a while getting our tents set up. My daughters stayed in a ground tent and I was in an overland tent. Once everything was set up and I was sitting comfortably in a chair close to the river, I hear, “look dude, you gotta get out of here.” No introduction, no hello- how are you, just dude, you gotta go. Confused, I introduced myself (like a normal adult) and inquired what was wrong. Later in this (lovely) conversation I realized it was the camp host. He was so angry he couldn’t even explain what this issue was other than I couldn’t park my truck where I had it. Toward the end of the conversation he said he was going to call the ranger and started taking pictures of my truck. Never once did I say I wouldn’t move it, I was just inquiring about why I needed to...as well as other potential options to be near my daughters tent. I guess he was too triggered to just be kind about it. I spent the next 30 minutes repacking and moving my vehicle about 10’ while he creepily watched me from down the road. Bottom line, it’s an okay spot and maybe worth 3 stars but “Steve” handled communicating like an adult so poorly, that the best I can do is 2. Won’t...
Read moreI loved my night here as a solo female camper. Very casual check in haha. When I walked up to the host's trailer and asked if I needed to check in, he said "if you want to". He made several rounds of the campground every day and was pleasant otherwise. I was in site 15, which shares a parking area w/ site 16 (2 car spot), although the ppl in site 16 were able to park two cars, one behind the other, in their spot nicely. The cars were between the two sites, so it added privacy between the sites. The site is so close to the main road you can see cars going by through the trees, but the sound of them blends in w/ the "white noise" of the river just a short walk down. This noise also made it so I didn't hear much of the large group in sites 16/17, so that was ok. Bathrooms were clean, not too stinky. My site was immediately across the road from them, so that was nice. Bear box was big enough for my igloo and multiple bags of kitchen stuff. Loved that downtown Truckee was like 15 min away, as well as many hiking trails. Will definitely...
