I am a former campground host at Lakeside and have included pictures of every campsite here.

Sites 1-13 and 42 are first come first serve sites. 14-16 and 18-41 are reserveable at the Tahoe National Forest website through Recreation.gov

All of the sites are RV friendly, though there are no hookups. For tent campers, if you don't see shade trees, don't pick that site. I cannot emphasize this enough. Thin air and California summers will bake you.

The campground is about 5 miles from Truckee and 30 miles from Reno. The lake is good for trout fishing and, near the dam, smallmouth. There is a 5mph speed limit for boats throughout so it is swimming and kayak friendly.

Lakeside is in the middle of several OHV trail systems and there are hiking trails as well. An easy one mile hike will take you to one of the Donner campsites, which has an interpretive walk.

There are two pair of maintained vault toilets and several water spigots that are...

This is a beautiful area in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, 10 miles North of Truckee, CA, on Hwy 89. It's is located on the west shore of Prosser Reservoir. Many of the sites have a lakeside view.||||Tents, Trailers, and Motor Homes can use these sites, but there are no electrical hook-ups. It is a primitive site, with potable water available, and vault toilets. There are four, 1st come, 1st served, camping locations. All remaining sites can be reserved using the on-line service called Recreation.gov.||||Cost to reserve a site is $20.00, (adults), and $10.00 (seniors), if you have a Senior Pass for the National Parks. Black bears have frequented the area, but it's not common. Food need to be secured in your vehicle.||||Beautiful lake, excellent morning sunrises! Wood can be purchased if you would like a fire. There is a camp host on site...

There are elements of beauty at this campground that most would find very rewarding and appealing. Situated alongside a pond or dammed reservoir, some of the sites are rewarded with privacy, most not. The terrain surround is hilly, filled with pine trees, grass and vistas. Yet, I found the seasonal dryness and wind uncomfortable (August), creating a sand filled environment. This campsite is close to Truckee and Reno which is fantastic. The very hardworking hosts, Kathy and Michael, made the stay very rewarding, comfortable and reassuring. Always aware of what was going on in the campground, endlessly working and being responsive and responsible, kindly and maturely enforced rules, prompt, they kept the place very clean and the bathrooms great. Best hosts I have ever been around and I have...

This is a beautiful area but has some major negatives. There are water spigots but the water doesn't work. The tent sites were very close together. Many sites were flooded in early June, no one can control that. No firewood available for purchase. The male camp host is unhinged and needs anger management help. His wife/partner was very nice. He yelled at her violently using curse words, I wondered if he was going to hurt her. I wouldn't visit again unless I knew he was gone.

The photo is site #27 and it's very close to the water. Many other sites have better shade but a longer walk to the water. I like this campground for several reasons. Close to highway 80 but no road noise at all. It's not too hot in the summer and the lake is a great temperature for swimming. You can ride a dirtbike from camp to the nearby ohv trail system. Lastly, it's just remote enough that you can probably get a site here for an impromptu trip.

It was nice, quiet has beautiful views. The water level was rising each day we were there. We explored a few trails in area great stuff. My most unnecessary part of the campground are the speed bumps on a dirt road with a surface like the moon already built in. Fact. We arrived there going east to west along top of the lake. It's hilly as f. I would visit Lakeside campground again though.
