Loch Leven Lodge — Hotel in Truckee

My wife and I wanted to stay in Truckee to get one, last breath of mountain air before returning home the next day to the S.F Bay Area after six days touring through the Rocky Mountains in July. We had no idea how wonderful this place is until we walked down the stares to the sprawling deck on the edge of Donner Lake. Our "lake-level" room opened to a breath-taking vista of the Sierras reflected in the lake. Our room was small and quaint (the least expensive), but with the views outside the door, we didn't spend much time in the room, although it was quite comfortable and reasonably priced for its location. We will definitely be going back for an extended stay, and will bring family or friends with us to share this gem. My plan is to rent a kayak next time which can be easily launched from the steps going down into a moderately shallow harbor built into the deck. The managers were very friendly and more like family members than hosts in that they stayed in one of the units, and didn't seem to see their job as anticipating our every need. Came across this Lodge heading west to Ca for work and just fell in love with it. Ben traveling the u.s. for work for 14 + yrs and this is the BEST place I've ever stayed. Quiet, peaceful, perfect place to relax with a cold one, sit on the deck and enjoy that perfect view. Clean rooms and some of the nicest people I've ever met! I liked it so much I made travel plans to stay again on my way back thru. Called and let them know I'd be wanting a room but I'd be getting in later in the evening, the lady (Debbie I think) said she remembered me from my last stay and told me which room I'd be in and the door will be unlock, key will be on the bed and just stop in the office in the morning. Fantastic spot right on Donner Lake. Walk out your door and catch a High Sierra trout or maybe even a Kokanee salmon and grill it right there on the provided BBQs. Watch the sun come up over the glass-like lake. Sit on the expansive deck and just take it all in. Bring a canoe, kayak or paddle board and hit the water literally steps from your room. Less than 10 minutes to Truckee for many bars, restaurants, shops, etc. Double rooms are a bit small but still well maintained.
