The proximity of this campground to the Grand Canyon is a blessing and a curse. A perfectly nice campground for a Forest Service facility there are few places where you can get enough sun for your solar system (psst campsite #58!) which is a fairly level pull through site with plenty of room for our 38' DP. Other sites could accommodate 45' rigs, but there aren't many although USFS website indicates max length to be 35'.

Being able to access the Grand Canyon is fantastic. That said there's continual traffic as people transit through for a night or drive out and back for the day. There is occasional aircraft noise given how close you are to the airport from the sightseeing airplanes and helicopters.

We saw little wildlife, and from the campground there are limited trails. Once you head into the park wildlife at dawn/dusk abound, and the trails are legendary.

Costs to stay were anticipated to increase for 2020 from $10/night to $24/night, however check recreation.gov as they list $20/night. We stayed in the middle of September and there were FS notices about the proposed change. Some sites are reservable, others aren't.

If you show up in a RV fill your holding tank before you get here. The water is limited to filling jugs at stations not close to the road, and then the spigots aren't threaded to accept a hose. The FS trucks the water in.

A few VZ 3/4G bars. No OATV. Bathrooms are acceptably clean.

We were heading to Grand Canyon in June 2018 with a 39ft DP, and despite booking in January, there was no availability anywhere else. We were very reticent to book here given the heat in the area and no electricity or water hookups. We persisted and were able to get all but the first night changed to another campground that had hookups.||||I have to say, we were so pleasantly surprised by Ten-X that we debated on whether or not to leave. (my vote was to stay) This is a lovely campground. Elk all around. Super quiet. It definitely fit our RV. No electricity. Very inexpensive. Very cool nights. All shaded (well, pretty much). Good cellular connectivity. Cool enough even during the day to have your windows open. Advanced darkness here. Advise arrival prior to dark as the signage wasn't super clear driving through the campground and there are some boulders that stick up out of the ground near edge of road that you might get too close to on a turn for a bigger RV. ||||Also note that your GPS may miss the turn to this site (seems like a system delay, rather than frankly wrong directions). GPS will definitely get you close, but...

The Tusayan-Montane Campground is just South of Tusayan and the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Reservations are via recreation.gov and there are first come first serve sights. We camped near the end of June and the campground had many open sites in the FCFS section. Facilities are limited, drinking water, trash dumpsters and pit toilets. However, the campground itself is clean and the sites are very spaced out. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. We stayed in a pull through site, large enough for our truck and trailer with room to spare. The sizes of the sites are accurate on recreation.gov. The camp hosts were really friendly and came through a few times a day to check the toilets and make sure things were going smoothly.

Availability - excellent first come first serve and reservations. Ambience - excellent with a lot of space, nature trails and trees and wildlife. Limitations - RV water and dump station at Mather Campground inside the park. No shuttle stop for Grand Canyon. No...

(October 23) Just like most campers at Ten-X, we were forced to camp here due to the campgrounds on the South Rim not being available due to the high demand.. in MID-OCTOBER. Clean outhouses (toilets), however there is no light anywhere on this CG and there’s no sink either, so bring a flashlight. Very quiet location, not many other campers (on a Saturday). Fireplace available. $20 for a regular site, has to be paid with the yellow envelope when entering the park; you’ll have to go all the way back to pay because the ranger doesn’t come around often. QR-code to pay only works during the season, so in our case they already deactivated the QR-codes since they only extended it for a month 1/2. No cash = no way to pay.

For $10 it's a great place to stay to see the grand canyon. Only downside is the traffic getting into the park. Found water spigot in day use but it didn't work. No trash cans, all dumpsters are in day use. There are unmarked and unmaintained trails thru and around the campground. There are several loops including a group loop, only Elk loop was open. No camp hosts. No one ever came by to check if we had paid. Very unsafe, no police presence or enforcement rangers. Vault toilets only. Snowed when we were here but we are self contained in our trailer so it didn't bother us.
