I had high hopes for my stay based on reviews here about cleanliness and friendliness of the staff. My wife and I checked in around 9:45pm and the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. We got to our room shortly after. The room was very clean, decorated well, and roomy. Unfortunately, around 10:30pm we started noticing little bugs flying around the lamps at the sides of the bed. I thought it was a few gnats at first and killed what I could. Then I started noticing more and more. I would kill a dozen or so then 5-10 minutes later there would be just as many as if I hadn't done anything. Around 11pm we decided to turn of the lights by the bed and just leave the light on in the bathroom hoping they would congregate in the lighted area. It was a very restless night for both of us because of the bugs...each time either of us went into the bathroom there were more than a dozen of them crawling and flying around and again I would kill all I could using a tissue.
The bugs alone are not why I gave this one star. The main reason was the response from this hotel. I showed one of the tissues with the many dead bugs and also two videos I took showing the bugs flying and crawling around to the receptionist. She was very sorry but could not do anything. Apparently the owners give no power to their employees to discount a room due to a bad stay. All I was I asking for was some compensation for the terrible night we endured. I was calm and never once raised my voice to the receptionist (I can't stand seeing a customer yell at a worker when the worker likely is not at fault).
We had to wait around in the morning because the receptionist was unable to get a hold of anyone that could help her out. About 30 minutes later she finally got in touch with someone (not sure if it was a manager or owner). Whoever it was did not want to talk to the customer (me) and told the receptionist there would be no discount to the room. This is the point that I became very disappointed. The owner or manager did not even want to speak to me to convey that they were sorry our stay was not comfortable.
For this reason, I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. I can give a pass on the bugs if it appears to be an isolated incident. But I cannot give a pass on the lack of hospitality and caring for the customer. It's possible the owner/manager is normally very hospitable but from what I experienced they failed miserably. One...
Read moreNobody was at Northwoods Lodge, all dark and locked when I arrived on Fri., Jan. 13, at 4:30 p.m. for two nights previously booked, 50% paid. I was expected. Temp was in teens, cold wind and snowing. 'Waited 20 minutes after phoning the number taped to the door for someone to drive up to assist me. Meanwhile, it got dark, and I got very cold waiting. A somber man gave me a room key, no smile, no directions about where my room was located. I had to ask. No lights in lodge lobby, no fire in cold stove. Dismal and creepy place. My room was clean but cold, and there was no extra blanket. No phone in room. Toilet was broken. No hospitality note to guests about anything such as ice machine, extra blanket, no clock, no radio. No directions to nearby restaurants, nothing about anything. In short, as much ambience as a storage locker. A clean room with a door that locks. ||||I returned for "breakfast included" next morning at $126/night. Still cold stove, dreary place, nobody greeted me. No guest but me. Not my kind of breakfast. No toaster, no fruit, no yoghurt, OK coffee served in tiny plastic cups. No cream. Only sweet waffles with corn syrup, packaged sweet rolls, very stale bagels, and cold cereal. ||||When I returned to the front lobby/office mid-morning to check on the noon float trip arrangements in tandem with this lodge, I could not enter. The door was locked again. All was dark inside. I waited until past noon, but nobody came. I had missed the mid-day float trip connection.||||Since my stay at Northwoods Lodge two weeks ago, I have been unsuccessful in talking with the owner although I have called and left messages three times. ||||Yes, the room was clean, but the Northwoods Lodge I experienced was very, very creepy. It should not be open if this is...
Read moreMyself and two friends tried checking into Northwoods Lodge on Saturday September 7th, we didn't think the place was open because the office was dark and locked up, the Maintenace person working outside was very friendly and helpful with the online check in process, the room was fine even though the water lines were backwards on the sink we had no issues with the room, the next morning we went down to what was advertised as a complimentary continental breakfast which consisted of day old bagels and what appeared to be some kind of waffle mix and warm milk. When my friend attempted to buy a souvenir for his son, he was met with a rude staff member who I'm assuming was one of the owners, that obviously didn't want to be bothered with a credit card purchase, she wanted information off of his Credit card that he was having problems reading. She was impatient, rude and condescending and then ask when we would be checking out, it was 8:15am in the morning. We had checked into the room at 2am and spent almost $200 dollars for the room and then wanted us to check out early?? Not only will we not be going back we will also let friends and family know of the poor treatment my friend received. If you don't want to deal with morning purchases don't sell souvenirs...
