We recently spent two nights at the Campbell House Inn while visiting Joshua Tree National Park. First it is the perfect location to the park, nearly a straight drive. But once you see the palm trees in the distance, head down the little dirt road, you feel like you have entered a private oasis.||The house and property have quite a story to tell. We found freshly baked cookies upon our arrival, along with chilled water and coffee in the dining room/sitting room. Peggy was so friendly and helpful to us, as was the rest of the staff.||We stayed in the Sunset cottage at the back of the property. It was nice and quiet and very private. We had a little porch out front that looked off into the desert. Our cottage had a kitchenette with a mini fridge, sink, dishes, microwave and plenty of counter space if you are going to heat up leftovers from one of the restaurants or fix a small meal. In the kitchen was a table for two. The queen size bed was very comfortable and the living room cozy. There were plenty of windows to let the light in, and at night step out on the porch for views of stars. The bathroom was huge, and everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable.||The property is large, with outbuildings and cottages, a game room near the pool and a pool house where you will find towels for the pool.||Each morning between 7am and 9am you will find a continental breakfast in the main house dining room, sitting area. We had coffee/tea, pastries and muffins, along with sausage, hard-boiled eggs and egg casserole muffins. The perfect start to a day in Joshua Tree National Park. Each afternoon we found warm cookies back in the dining area.||It truly was an incredible stay. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Twentynine Palms. The Campbell House Inn and staff couldn't have been more friendly...
Read moreImagine an oasis in the desert with an old, New England-type inn right in the middle. When we arrived at Campbell House, I felt like I was entering a movie set. It looks so out of place with an oasis of palm trees along with this grand house with cabins all around it. Once settled in, we were so glad we had chosen to stay here. Our room (Oasis) was large with an ample kitchen with table and chairs. There is a sizable sitting area in that room, too, that we found quite comfortable. Front desk and dining room service was warm and informative. I was happy to return here each day after hiking and exploring Joshua Tree.||A couple of flaws: the breakfast leaves something to be desired. Yes, it’s a continental breakfast but each offering (except the delicious bacon) seemed to be missing something. There was not a lot out, and the quiches and breads were quite small. Again, the bacon was plentiful and delish, but you can’t make a meal out of it. The pool is fully exposed to the sun and while there are a few large umbrellas to put up, they are on the side of the pool that hasn’t enough space for chairs so I’m not sure why they are even there. Two chairs were near one umbrella and, otherwise, all of the chairs were fully exposed. In over 90-degree heat and glaring sunshine, this left a lot to be desired.||The location of Campbell House is ideal for easy access to Joshua Tree National Park, and there are several good restaurants nearby. Your options for lodging are limited in this area, and this looked to me like the best place around! I’m so glad...
Read moreWell, we arrived early to an empty house but called Elizabeth who called us back very quickly. When we did check in Elizabeth expressed some agitation and went to check the computer. No hello or welcome. It was very impersonal. Did not seem interested in us and walked us to Farm House Cottage, where Lisa was finishing cleaning. Not a pleasant beginning. Also, there is no one on duty in case of emergencies. The cottage is nice but smells musty. The cottage is set up to sleep 4 but there are only 2 glasses and 2 cups. The lighting and seating in the living area are poor and very uncomfortable. We found ourselves reading and resting on the bed. There is a large artificial plant in the corner along with another on an end table which are sorely in need of dusting. The nature, though, around the area and home is lovely and the convenience to the North Entrance of JTNP is fantastic. The continental breakfast is very good but no juice. Probably nicest place to...
