Everything at the lake was so nice! Starting with my parents being there every summer, my husband, myself & our 3 children enjoyed it also! Then we were going there quite a bit, a long with the grandchildren! Tapen Lake, honestly with the Pontoon Rentals & Blow up Water Toys, that was the place where in all ages, including myself, was able to forget all of life's worrying, and just act like children & have fun! That WAS always the thing our 4 generations had to look forward to, come the 1st day of the beach opening every year, back as long as I remember! Well COVID, 2019, had to come in and it did change a lot of things, it made for a not so good year or more! Walmart closed doors overnight & kids were forced to do schooling at home! That is just to name a few! But things started going back to normal! School reopened their doors, but even though it was said, Walmart must have enjoyed not paying all the employee wages because they never did go back to the 24 hours which I know a lot of past employees & (customers) people were disappointed! That would include myself! But my #1 disappointment in this situation with all that has been ruined, is that, Tappan Lake, just did not care about the fun times with the Beach area changing with this Virus! Since that year, with my understanding they haven't brought back the Blow up Water Toys, and not sure about this year 2023, there has been no interest in finding lifeguards! To me, going to Tappan Lake has never happened since then! Those Blowup Water Toys were the number one thing that brought everyone, young & old, fun! I don't see why you cannot just go back to the way it used to be! For that to not happen, you must not have realised what was bringing families the most fun! The Fourth of July fireworks used to be a big part of us going there also! Well now, starting then I guess, was our last summer going there and probably always will be the last one because without that fun in the water there's no sense in going there! I know that that is my opinion but I have a feeling that many more feel like that so I just wanted to stay what I felt! Thank You! Very...
Read moreA very lovely park to camp at or enjoy for the day.
Personally, I love all the different trails they have here to explore. It’s particularly fun to come here in the off-season when the lake levels are lower and you can see remnants of old structures in the lake, forgotten from times now past.
That being said, I would like to see some improvements: most notably, better signage for finding camping sites and increased speed limits in campgrounds to 10/15mph. Why? You have people that will literally SCREAM at you if you go as fast as 7mph (I believe speed limit is 5). That’s just ridiculous, and frankly- those people should be kicked out in my opinion. Also, if you can’t drive safely at 10mph, then the problem is you… not the speed limit.
So, guys… Either 1.) increase the speed limits or 2.) have more patrols. Either way, you can’t let guests control and monitor traffic. Very unappealing and I won’t be camping in certain sections because of that.
Prices on kayak rentals are fair. Very reasonable pricing for events and...
Read moreThe lake and surrounding area is beautiful. The grounds of Tappan Lake Park are well kept. As far as the cabin that we rented for 5 days, I'd be ashamed to open it to the public. There was no attention to detail in preparing a clean cabin for us. They knew over a month ago that we were coming. What a beautiful place, but.....the cabin could have used some better cleaning before our arrival. Since our arrival, we have been bitten and attacked by spiders! The outside windows & screens are covered with webs and bugs, with spiders crawling everywhere. The inside windows, entry door, corners of each room, and sky lights have thick webs with new and old bugs trapped. For the price we paid, the poor cleaning preparation has been a real disappointment and aggravation. :( We would come again for the boating and beauty of the well manicured park, but as far as renting an insect infested cabin,...
