Not only is the "hotel" beautiful and charming, it's located right in the heart of a very quaint city. Personally, I wouldn't describe it as a hotel, it is labeled as an Inn. But, I feel that it's more like a residence, or an AirBNB. For what you get, the price is phenomenal. Kelly has been a joy to work with, as we are in the process of relocating from Colorado to Missouri, but don't close on our home for nearly 2 weeks. Kelly went out of his way to accommodate our family of 5, even when changes arose. You can tell that he has a great passion in restoring these buildings.
The city has everything that you need. Not even 3 minutes away you have a restaurant, Casey's General Store and a smaller Hy-Vee grocery store.
Within the rental, you're welcomed with historic architecture. A very spacious living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom with a queen size bed, stackable washer and dryer and a counter bar with stools for 4 on the main floor. The bar is great size to not only eat but to serve from as well. They provide laundry detergent and dryer sheets, dish soap and hand soaps. I was surprised to see that in the shower they have shampoo, conditioner and body wash for men and women available. They provide dishware, pots and pans, silverware, glasses, etc. There are also washcloths and hand towels in the kitchen, bath towels, wash cloths and hand towels in the bathroom. The couch pulls out into another bed. The televisions are equipped with Dish Network. You have a full size oven and stove, refrigerator and microwave. Very beautiful furnishings as well as 2 ceiling fans with lights.
Upstairs (the stairs are a bit steep, but remember, this is a historic building) there is a queen sized bed and 2 twins. The beds are very comfortable with nice linens. There is also a dresser and television with Dish Network. And to put the icing on the cake... there's an oscillating fan! That has always been a problem with any place that we've ever stayed at, as everyone in my family is accustomed to falling asleep with a fan on.
I am in love with this property. I highly recommend this property to anyone who needs to stay in the area. Kelly is very flexible with the length of stay as well. Also, there are no keys or key cards to lose. Entry is gained by utilizing an access code that Kelly provides. It is extremely simple to use and with a 2 and 3 year old I appreciate that. We recently stayed at a chain hotel and the key cards were quite a pain, to put it nicely. There were times we'd have to attempt to use the card 20 times before actually gaining access (I'm not exaggerating). The access code is brilliant. Just don't forget what it is.
Now... onto my recommendations, which are quite minuscule. Because we're staying here for nearly 2 weeks, after grocery shopping, I noticed that there's really no ample area to store dried goods. I placed ours on top of the cupboard the holds the plates and cups, however, I'm short, so it was harder for me to reach. The only other thing I'd recommend is getting a cheap gate that can be used (and moved, depending on if you're up or down) to keep smaller children off of the stairs. This is more of a safety thing. However, I'm going to go to Walmart to buy one and plan to leave it behind for any other parents with littles who stay, if Kelly is in agreement.
This really is a great place to stay and ample room to sleep 7-8 people. I highly recommend, we've stayed at a lot of hotels and the like, this is by...
Read moreCalled a week or two before visit, no big deal to reserve room. Arrived and called the owner and he promptly arrived to unlock the door. I was expecting a regular hotel room - nope MUCH MORE! It is basically a small apartment in a turn of the century building with modern touches. Large TV, WIFI, full kitchen with utensils, two bedrooms, one bath. Even real coffee, not hotel blah coffee. Easy to find, right off the square in Unionville, with parking right outside door. Would highly recommend this place, especially when in an area where there are not many good options. I stayed in Kirksville last night at a Holiday Inn and I wish I would of drove up and stayed at the Square View Inn two nights...
Read moreMost cheap places to stay are just that. Cheap ... So when we arrived we weren't expecting much. For about $70 a night this place exceeded my expectations in every way. The room is kind of like a lodge but the place was massive. There's one room with a queen size bed. Upstairs has a room with a TV and three beds. Downstairs has a full stocked kitchen for people doing extended stays and four bar stools for people to sit at the counter. This place could easily sleep 7 - 8 people. Even more of a blow up mattress was brought. This is the only place I've stayed at for under $100 that I would recommend and definitely stay again if I was ever there again. There was also free...
