Bulldog Camps is an old (1880's) camp set up on gorgeous Enchanted Pond. It has all the potential to be fondly remembered with its rustic cabins and setting. However, the way our group was treated this past weekend (Sept. 27-Oct. 1) leaves us never wishing to return. Upon arrival Darren, the manager (owner?) was all business, collecting our credit card with little or no welcome, which at first we just mistook for "Maine reserve." When we let Darren know that gas lights weren't working, we were missing basic kitchen items, and that the stove top wasn't working his attitude was one of irritation--it appeared we were bothering him. Reluctantly, he came over to address the issues, but failed to replace one of the non-functioning gas lamps for the duration of our stay. Two of our group needed to charge batteries for necessary medical devices and were told in advance that charging stations would be available at the Main Lodge. But upon arrival Darren let it be known that would only be from 6 am to 10 am daily. Problem was, at 6 am the Lodge was locked up tight. Each day we had to awaken either Darren or his staff to gain access to the electricity. One morning Darren blew up at two of us for knocking on the doors. For the most part, Darren and his young staff were poorly motivated no-shows all day long, making asking questions about issues at the camp, about the fishing in general, how to gain access to Little Enchanted Pond problematic. It was as though Darren had another job going on at the camp next door where much construction noise filled the weekend. This would have been fine if the very young threesome that made up the "staff" gave any hint of being directed to attending to guests' requests--when they were around. Another feature: Multiple rules for guests were posted in our cabin. Among the rules: clean up after your pets! Problem was the two camp dogs (Baxter was one) made it their business to do their daily business in the grassy areas in front of the guest cabins--again with no camp employees present. We all had the pleasant experience of stepping in it. If this wasn't bad enough, the motor boats ($60 each per day) all seriously leaked such that after a couple of hours on the pond, they needed major bailing out with the old buckets left on the shoreline for guests to deal with. The boat house that contained worn out life preservers and decrepit canoe paddles and boat oars was like visiting an abandoned yard sale of items thrown together for "pickers" to climb over. Much of this could have been ignored had the manager not had an attitude of irritation that we were there. Strongly recommend finding...
Read moreJust returned 10/1/18 from four nights. Despite a distinct lack of adequate signage directing visitors to the camp, once there the sights and sounds are beautiful on Enchanted Pond. The cabins are vintage (camp was established in late 1880's) with hot and cold running water and indoor plumbing. Fishing was so-so. That was the good part. Power boats ($60/day) have serious leaks (allowing about 2 hours before mandated bailing out) and most of the motors are frankly too old to troll properly. Life preservers, boat and canoe paddles were well beyond old and worn out, as was the ramshackle shack holding gear. Our cabin was not cleaned (freezer needed defrosting and was a mess) adequately prior to our arrival, gas lights needed repair (and replacement), stove top needed repair. When alerted to this, the camp manager reluctantly came over, exuding an attitude of irritation, complaining that he had tried several times to fix the broken lights--leaving us to wonder why he didn't just replace them. The young staff that listlessly moved about offered no help to guests moving in (playing horseshoes instead) and, for the most part, were uncommunicative and just not around during the day, during which the main lodge was almost always locked. Although the posted rules indicated guest's dogs were to be picked up after, the two unattended camp dogs used the grounds in front of the cabins as their personal daily dumping ground. Most of the barbecues were broken or in need of repair. Access to main lodge electric sockets for charging c-paps and cell phones was promised, but on arrival the two available sockets were limited to 6 am to 10 am daily. Most mornings the door to the main lodge remained locked at 6 am. When alerted to this, and the need for the full four hours to charge up, the camp manager (owner?) became irritated and ugly angered that we had bothered him from enjoying his morning shower. No attempt was ever made to ask how our group was enjoying our stay, if we needed anything, or honestly, to make us feel welcome. We would never recommend Bulldog Camps to other groups looking to have an...
Read moreI stumbled across this place online accidentally. Once I saw the pictures I knew I had to book it. (i called and booked with Jasmine, she was so sweet and helpful) This was a great resting stop for our drive to Quebec from Maine in late July. Although it rained as soon as we pulled up, this place did not disappoint. I booked the smallest cabin (teepee)for our family. As soon as we arrived the owner said he had a cancelation and upgraded us to the lakefront cabin. We were stoked! It had a loft with 3 twin beds, Two twin beds on the first floor and also a full bed., A nice refrigerator in the kitchen and one bathroom with a shower. Jordan took us out on the lake where we caught several fish and explored the tiny remote cabin they also offer to stay in. The dinner that night was really good (salmon, asparagus and rice). Breakfast was great too. (huge portions) My kids loved the place. We tried to take the trail to see the waterfalls but got halfway on the trail and decided to turn back since dinner was at 6pm and it was getting late. If you have water boots bring them in case of rain. Also this is a camp so you need to bring your own towels, bed sheets and blankets. On a side note, I'm glad we had an SUV with 4wheel drive. I don't think its a necessity however it was nice to have on the backroads. The road to the camp is around 10 miles (i think) from the main road. We only stayed one night and its one of the coolest places i have ever seen. I hope to make it back one day and try paddle boarding on the pond. The owner and his family are super nice people and I'm really glad...
