Beautiful campground with more than enough activities to keep the kids busy for days. However this campground is MAJORLY lacking in customer service. Yes, there were a small handful of helpful employees. However the majority were not friendly and everything was a bother. The staff should truly be ashamed by their lack of basic manners. There is definitely a bias against the campers who are not seasonal. You 100% feel unwelcome and as if you are intruding on the seasonal campers. There is an uncomfortable vibe when you walk the campground. You can feel the seasonal campers glaring their eyes at you. The parade, ice cream truck etc was organized in a way that catered to the seasonal campers and us “tent people” in section W, are an after thought. Because Driftstone organizes their activities this way, it gives you the impression that Driftstone promotes the poor behavior of their employees and seasonal campers. I would recommend bringing bikes and tubes to use on the river. If you are not a seasonal camper you will most likely be stuck in the most inconvenient locations and a bike will be a life saver when you need to use the bathroom. The Intex River Run tube they sell in the gift shop, sells for $20 at Walmart. Plan ahead and don’t pay Driftstones inflated prices. There was also an over the top refusal to allow motorcycles any where on their property. A motorcycle was one of our modes of transportation. It is not a recreational motorcycle. Yes, this is stated on your receipt when your reservation is made. However I did not find the message clear. “Motorcycles, motorbikes, motorscooters, ATVs, golf carts, children's electric cars, jet skis, waverunners, fireworks, firearms, BB guns and airguns NOT permitted.” My interpretation of this message was motorcycles as recreational vehicles (I.e. dirt bikes) Not motorcycles driven as your only mode of transportation. We asked to pay an additional fee to allow the motorcycle to stay in the parking lot (not at the campsite) and we were told the motorcycle “couldn’t be seen on the property”. Driftstone was not willing to compromise or offer advice for an alternative. Zero empathy for the 3 hour drive we made. It was dusk at the time and I was only asking to compromise for one night so we could figure out a solution in the morning. There is definitely a good backstory with this camp ground and motorcycles. Motorcycles drive past the W section multiple times a day and very often the people riding these motorcycles had the middle finger up when they drove past. I wish I knew the story. Kudos to the Lutheran church down the street. A wonderful community of people. Super friendly and helpful. Driftstone owes them a nice donation for picking up where...
Read moreI had to cancel my trip due to the ridiculous policies of the place. I highly recommend contacting them through phone or email to inquire about the restrictions that you might not have thought of. They may even prohibit seemingly harmless things like wearing hats or eating a burger 15 minutes prior to arrival, and simply state that it's their policy and they have the authority to enforce it.||Our plan was to enjoy Lake Hopatcong on our PWC and stay overnight at a place that was 45 minutes away from the lake - Driftstone Campground . I reached out to them to inquire whether we could park our small trailer on-site and set up a tent as we were concerned about parking it in the lot due to theft. However, their response was disheartening. They said, "Driftstone does not permit jet skis, motorcycles, golf carts, and motor scooters."||Despite my multiple explanations via email that we had no intention of launching our PWC in the 3ft deep pond as it was impractical and impossible, Andrea seemed unwilling to listen. I even explained that the trailer would just be attached to my vehicle and that I only needed a place to keep it safe overnight so that we could travel to Lake Hopatcong the next morning. Additionally, I mentioned that while it made sense to prohibit motorcycles, ATVs, and other noisy vehicles that may disturb other guests, our PWC is a watercraft and could not cause any disturbance as we had no ability using it on the premises. However, despite my efforts to clarify and explain, the response was still the same, with no exception to their policy.||She simply replied that their policy did not make any exceptions. She said, "This is our policy, and there are no exceptions. Driftstone Campground is private property, and the owner has the right to set policies as he sees fits."||The worst part of the experience was their attitude, which was extremely rude and unhelpful, with a complete lack of...
Read moreI booked two nights at the Driftstone for 7 adults. When I booked two sites (which I had to because 4 adults max per site), the young lady on the phone did not notify me that the rates per site were based on 2 individuals. So because I had two sites with two adults per site, I had to pay for 3 "visitors" at 8.00 per day each. That's $24.00 x 3 days = $72 I was never aware of until I arrived. When I asked her why I wasn't notified of this, she replied that she "thought she had told me". So in all, a 2 night camping trip (in tents) was approximately $300.
The facilities at Driftstone are beautiful, although certainly family/children oriented. The bathhouses were clean, the electric/water at our site worked great. The 11 o'clock quiet time is certainly strict, and considering we were a group of young adults ( approx. 25) we certainly felt as though we were being hawked. The first night it was a monsoon and we were under our canopy instead of in drenched tents and by 11:15 we were told to keep it down, although just sitting at a picnic table. So I DO NOT recommend this campsite for a group of young adults.
Furthermore, the staff was mediocre. We had to add a visitor the second night and it felt as though we were doing something wrong and treated as though we were a nuisance. As I said, because we were a group of young adults, we felt a bit singled out from the start. We felt as though we were going to be in trouble for any move we made, although we were more quiet than the families/kids...
