This campground is great by itself, but it's proximity to Ocean City makes it our favorite campground ever. Take the 34th street bridge and it's a 10 minute drive to the beach or 15 minute drive to the boardwalk. The campground feels tucked away and quiet with its wooded setting. After a day at the beach, it feels as if you are in the mountains only minutes later. And even though it feels isolated, there's a grocery store, convenience store, gas stations, and a pharmacy only minutes down the road without even having to drive across the bridge into town.
Your first impressions may be that the sign out front, the buildings, and the amenities buildings are a bit dated however they are impeccably maintained by their incredible staff. Every interaction with the staff was polite, professional, and warm. They truly have a sense of pride in their campground and it shows.
The campground is very wooded and it can be challenging maneuvering your rig through it however the staff is willing to help you get your camper into its spot. I've seen very large 5th wheels there so it's not impossible.
Every site is kept immaculate. Their crews clean and rake every site after someone checks out and they collect trash from every site daily so you don't have to drag it to a dumpster. We had a picnic bench collapse on us and they were there in under an hour to replace it.
Most of the campground is seasonal and consists of mostly park models that are well maintained and tastefully decorated. It's a great place to take the dog or the kids for a walk at night because most have decorative lighting and it feels like you're walking through a quaint little village. The pool is quite popular and has lifeguards. Although we haven't used it yet, it seems nice and maintained and there is a snack bar/restaurant attached. There is a large playground and dog park. Plenty of dog waste cans around the campground with bag dispensers.
Never had a bad experience with neighbors and everyone seems to stay relatively quiet and respectful of other campers.
Overall I can't recommend this campground enough and it's a perfect place to stay on its own and especially if you like Ocean City. Plus it's 1/4 of the price of staying in town. This year we rented a condo in town with the whole family for a week and we missed Whippoorwill so much that we went down the next month for a 4 day weekend. Nothing beats coming back to your own camper with your own bed and sitting out by the fire at night after a day on the beach or strolling...
Read moreBuilt in pool. Seasonal park model spots. Seasonal travel trailer spots. Very very clean bath houses. Extremely friendly neighbors. Its a shame the owners charge money for every single breathe you take. If you have a guest over for lunch... you must register snd pay for them. If direct family members turn 18+ years old you have to pay $100+ to use the pool. Kids arts and crafts cost more than the products worth at a dollar store. This campground was at its prime 10 years ago. Stil a beautiful place and the first rental campground/shore house on route 9 coming from the 34th street OC bridge.
UPDATE- now since owners sold to corporate this place has boiled each amenity down to its barebones. -removed lifeguards at the pool (Swim at your own risk) -bathhouses are no longer cleaned daily (When they are they “cleaned” they are no longer pressure washed, maybe some Lysol spray and windex) -Front store closes 2pm seems like all of 3 employees exist seasonal fee goes up every year option for buying campground wide internet was removed snack/food stand shut down kids swings removed at park Gathering building “ the roost” for bingo and other activities shut down trash and recycling pickup at site-NO MORE, dumpsters put at front of property for everyone to carry up on their bike or put on the roof of their cars rental sites used to be raked and cleaned immediately after the departure of a renter; not even a thought anymore places for sale used to be sale-assisted by the office, they want nothing to do with your house keys anymore. Besides being paid. additional parking costs more money. additional boat, jet ski storage costs money. front store has 10% inventory compared to the past. Large investment firm has sucked every potential dollar, and rid this place of all happiness and enjoyment. Take your annual $8000 and go somewhere else. these park models are over priced. $80K for a used Park Model and you have access half the year and don’t own the land. Don’t think this is anything but a place to sleep anymore. It’s no investment, you are not allowed to sub-rent your own property. And when you buy and sell your “house” you have to give them 10% of the sale. Greed...
Read moreWe stayed here for 34 days with our family of five. We had heard great things about Whippoorwill and were looking forward to our extended stay. What we later found out was that all those good stories came before some corporate took over. The sites are very nice and good sizes and everything is within a short walk. They had some nice activities for the kids but that's about all the good I can say. We 1st started noticing issues after memorial day weekend when it took over 4 days and us calling the office for the bathrooms to be "cleaned". Was told by the office that a work order was in but they didn't know when it would get done. We even went as far as calling the regional district manager but surprisingly we never not a call back. The bathrooms were wiped down at best but cleaned was not what I would call it. After that we would bring our own cleaning products to wipe the showers down before we used them. Just want we wanted to do after dropping thousands of dollars for our reservation. 2 showers in the woman's room were duct taped closed and out of order for at least a week including the handicap shower. My husband said the men's room was even worse. Trash left on bathroom floors for 3-4 days if not more and stalls without toilet paper for at least 3 days that I'm aware of as well. The other bathhouse with the laundry room was often locked when you tried to use it. Washers and dryers are owned by outside company and when our clothes got locked in the washer the office couldn't do anything had to call a 800 number. Ended up googling the error code and fixing ourselves when we didn't get an answer. Definitely will not be returning or recommending to family and friends. We did meet some wonderful people during our stay but can't give them...
