Stayed at The Strong House Inn recently (Jan 2024). My wife and I have been here many times in years past when the inn was Unser the previous owners. The new owners , Amy and DJ were most welcoming as was their canine resident, Bjorn. The room was clean and very comfortable and the television was a smart TV which enables you to do your own personal streaming from your accounts with Netflix, Amazon, Hulu , etc. The heating was more than adequate in that there was a thermostatically controlled propane gas stove with a nice fire log flame vented to the outside as well as a heater/AC inverter unit controlled by a remote that was easy to use. So you had two heat sources. The bedding was very comfortable and the pillows/blanket/comforter also warm and soft. The private bath had been recently updated by the new owners. The only disappointment regarding this upgrade was that the toilet appeared not to have been replaced and the seat needed replacing as there were a few large chips on it. I may be mistaken on this but if in fact I am, then the seat badly needs replacement. The new bathroom is so nice with its beautiful large stall shower that this chipped seat really stands out. The breakfasts all 3 days were outstanding! Amy is the creative cook I believe, and she delights with tasty treats such as homemade scones, Dutch pancakes(look it up if not familiar), Caprisi eggs, Apple pancakes with almonds and Vermont maple syrup and herb omelette with Boursin cheese. The Costco coffee which is served in an insulated carafe left at your table along with real cream and sugar is hot and very delicious. On the morning we had an overnight snowfall, DJ, the male co-host was so very kind and brushed the snow off of our car and blew it away from around the car. I can’t tell you how impressed we were with this kindness and how much we appreciated it. There is also a Keurig coffee maker downstairs in the kitchen that you can avail yourself of at any time with a good selection of coffees and teas. The only constructive criticism I can add is that the room should be cleaned every day. Ours was only done after the first night. The trash needed to be emptied and bed made and bathroom cleaned and paper products checked and replaced if necessary. This is a minor issue but one that should be addressed daily. We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful property and were very pleased with our hosts and will definitely return and highly recommend that you consider The Strong House Inn for a nice New...
Read moreInn is really pretty and the owners are super nice. ||||However the room and ensuite was so tiny we literally had no room for ANY luggage. The bathroom has no counter and no place for ANY toiletries, making that difficult to manage with no space in the room or area to put on makeup etc. the bathroom and shower is simply too small for this type of hotel. (Shower about 2x2). My husband dropped the soap and could not pick it up without opening the door, and it is too small to wash your hair - about like a motorhome or boat shower. The closet fits your backpack but not a carryon bag. We thought about storing our bags in the hall because at night there is no place to put them you wont trip over them. Room is not suitable for 2 Adults. Maybe ok for someone’s kids if you’re ok with your kids in a different room in a hotel, but not for a couple! Disappointing…||||We were biking inn to inn with a large group, and we arrived early to beat some incoming rain. They were really nice about storing our bikes and plugging them in for us - even tho we were early - and directed us into town for pizza and beer - and we found a wine store in town on the way! Town is easily walkable and really cute. We pulled up uber to see if it worked in case we got caught in the rain, and it seemed like it would have been available, which was great news. But it is a nice half mile walk and we didnt need it after all. ||||Bed comfortable and ac worked well in September - window did not open - heat was on when we arrived and the room was hot but quickly cooled down. Room does have a TV, no ceiling fan, but as mentioned Ac works and is quiet. Surfaces are clean and decor interesting and what you expect for a Vermont Inn experience! Just hard to get past the room….||||Coffee available anytime in the kitchen. Inn serves breakfast only, ck in is at 3. Inn has storage for bikes (call ahead) and owner was very helpful and knowledgeable getting us all plugged in and ready for...
Read moreI stayed at the Strong House Inn for a total of about 7 weeks at various times during 2013 while I was in the area for business, with a few extra days added for local tourist attractions. Mary, Hugh, Melissa, and their dog Duke made me feel right at home in the beautiful little town of Vergennes. Mary is a creative, excellent cook who serves a different wonderful breakfast every morning. (The reviewer that said a "dislike" was breakfast obviously didn't make any requests; on several occasions, Mary was happy to make me a variation of the day's breakfast at my request. I saw her take dietary restrictions and requests from other guests in stride.) I stayed in several of the rooms; they were all comfortable, well-maintained, and recently updated. The common areas (a library, a bar area, and the conference facility) are a great place to enjoy some quiet time in this historic building. All rooms had high-speed wi-fi. The grounds are immaculately maintained, and are perfect for an outdoor gathering or a short walk when the weather cooperates.
I attended a couple of conferences in the new facility attached to the main building. The food that Mary cooked for these events was fantastic. The conference facility comfortably accommodated about 15 people, though more wouldn't have been too much of a problem.
Mary and Hugh are local area experts, and provided me with lots of great advice on local restaurants, activities, and diversions.
I highly recommend the Strong House to anyone who wants to vacation or work anywhere near Vergennes, and who wants to really feel at home while they are...
