Update (2-3 Stars): A member of management named Mark spoke with my wife today. He had seen the review, apologized, and wanted to make sure we were going to have a pleasant stay here still. He said that normally the lady we spoke with (the owner) was very nice, but there was something going on with another property that was causing things to be stressful. I still donât think this campground or even the roads going to it are big rig friendly so it will be unlikely that we will be returning for that reason. The cell phone signal on VZW, ATT, and T-mo are also not that great. The roads going to the campground and cell signal arenât something you can really fault the campground for, but they really need to reconsider the layout of the campsites and not cram so many people in such a tight space. I also think it would be good to add some warnings for big rigs on the site/reservation process. On that note of internet/cellular the campground WiFi is running HughesNet (satellite internet) and canât be relied on either nor is it free.
At the end of the day though, at least someone came to speak with us about the issue further and actually express sincere empathy about the situation. Definitely how the situation should have been handled Saturday. For that reason Iâll bump the review up a star. Unfortunately I still canât justify a 4 or 5 star review in my opinion.
Original Review: The other reviews are 100% correct in saying that the management is rude - even to this day. More on that to come. We had a terrible experience even coming in the park in which it took an hour to get parked, the sites were not labeled well and we were not escorted to our spot. This lead to us following incorrect directions that were provided to us and pulling into the spot the wrong way for our hookups. This normally wouldnât be a big deal, but the turns here are not big rig friendly at all. I can make about half of them, but if you have to correct yourself like I did then you are certainly in quite a pickle. In two locations, I even had to have people move pavers from the landscaping to make the turns... (For what itâs worth, I full time in the RV and travel to new campgrounds weekly). When I finally got into the spot an hour and a half later, I went to the office to speak to someone. Because I know how campgrounds work, I just asked to speak to the manager so I didnât have to explain all of this twice. The manager (maybe owner) was outside drinking a beer and the person working in the office was basically refusing to get her and told me to go talk to her outside. Which I did... The conversation that followed was probably the most unprofessional conversation between management and a customer I have ever experienced. She was argumentative and when I finished my 5 minute story of everything that happened within the last 1 and a half hours she kinda just stood there. I basically gave her two options instead of her offering some type of consolation (because it didnât seem like she was going to even offer an apology). I said that no matter what happened, I wasnât coming back and I was going to leave an honest review of what happened. She could either try to make it right and my review would have a happy ending or she could do nothing and my review would have a sour ending. She literally said âthatâs not fairâ and then went on to defend the campground instead of being sympathetic and apologizing for a customers issues, caused by your employees, while at your campground. I honestly shouldnât have even had to offer an ultimatum, she should have been forthcoming with something that she could do to make the situation right. To her credit in the end, she conceded to offer one of my 7 nights for free which honestly I can probably equate to wasting an extra hour of my time and the inconvenience. Itâs also worth mentioning that the young man who ended up helping me navigate the campground and move pavers was very nice and helpful. But overall, I would honestly say that both of those acts of goodwill were overturned by the demeanor of...
Read moreBooked over the phone without issue, very pleasant actually. Arrived at campground with easy check in at front office. Was given a map with directions to campsite, here is where I had trouble. The map is misleading on where to go, I missed my turn, had to back up 43â of camper to make the turn while a permanent resident stood and watched me knowing that I missed the turn and did not even offer a âhey itâs back there, what spot are you looking for?â Most permanent campers are usually an advocate for the campground, this individualâŚabsolutely not. Continuing on to my site I came up to multiple huge trees and a narrow road that is supposed to lead me to my spot, this is not a place you want to have 43â of camper and no one watching what your doing, (escort to the site at this time would be nice) I get in and out about 6-8 times making sure I donât hit anything, to my surprise here is another permanent camper just standing there just staring and not even offering to watch trees from his vantage point. Either way itâs my camper and my responsibility. I found my site and was able to get it after a few tries, nothing crazy. However it had trash all over from the previous campers, not an issue, I cleaned it up. There was no fire pit, i kindly asked for one and the gentleman that got it for me was more than pleasant and greeted me. As the stay went one we found out that the permanent campers are very un welcoming of guests. We tried to talk to a few and was given the cold shoulder. There is an obvious division of guests and permanent campers. We took a walk around the campground with our dog and while walking past site 27 the owners there had an unleashed dog that charged my family and our leashed dog. The dog was aggressively coming after us, it was being called back by owners who chose to make typical crappy comments like âitâs niceâ â it wonât hurt youâ I donât know you dog and how it acts. As we were walking away the owners said âwe didnât know anyone would walk down here at nightâ mind me it was 830-900pm. The leash rule is mentioned multiple times around the campground, we were following the rules. Our neighbors arrived and had two dogs, one on a leash that allowed it to visit our site âyes the leash was that longâ and I advised the neighbor that we had a large dog and I was concerned for both dogs safety. The other dog they had was unleashed, I had to return it to them and mention that it was wondering into our site. Long story short, itâs a well kept campground, the pool is nice, the staff is friendly, but if they do not change the the atmosphere people will start leaving more negative reviews.
Also worth a mention is the dump station is in a terrible spot, and you must make multiple turns to get into it.
I would give a higher review but the atmosphere and permanent campers ruined the trip for our family, so much so that we left Sunday...
Read moreGot in Thursday evening around 5pm. No issues with check in at all. Clerk working the desk had our check in paper printed out and ready to go for us. The camp store is nice and has anything you may need or may have forgotten. I like that you can buy things and they can charge it to the card you have on file that you used to make your reservation. The campground does offer firewood at a very reasonable price. I believe I paid $35 for a full Kubota Utility Vehicle bed load. The wood was good and burned well. The site we had was good. It was pretty level only requiring one leveling block. The site was gravel and grass, we had plenty of room and even some to spare that our visitors parked on. The campground staff are very nice and helpful. On arrival the campground was completely booked due it being their annual Halloween Weekend Campground. The campground is roughly 80 sites with additional seasonal sites mixed in there. Friday afternoon we realized that our neighbors at site 34 hadnât shown up yet, we come to discover that they canceled their reservation. I was able to to talk to campground staff and they helped me reserve it for my cousin that was looking for a site to stay on. You have your usual pull through sites in the middle of the campground and then along the outskirts you have some very nice woods sites that offer beautiful views and scenery. They also have a whole separate section for seasonal sites on the opposite side of the park. The site are decent sized but seem to be pretty close together. Youâre not terribly close but compared to state parks and other campground Iâve stayed at it was a bit tight. Itâs very family friendly. They have a very nice community pavilion area and stage/projector screen. They were offering hayrides and a costume contest that weekend as well as a cornhole tournament Saturday afternoon. Trick or treating went well and was a good time. Itâs a short walk from Cowan Lake State Park which has a beautiful large lake. The bathrooms and shower facilities were very well kept. They have individual shower rooms which include a vanity and a bench as well as a heat lamp that works nicely. All and all itâs a nice private campground. It offers friendly staff and a family friendly atmosphere. The short distance to Cowan Lake is a plus as well. Halloween weekend was a little hectic but overall went well and I enjoyed it. Only complaint I have is that the WiFi at the...
