We’d seen signs for Shawnee Forest Campground (CG) many times as we headed out and back from our St. Louis home base and wanted to check this CG out. We followed our GPS to the clearly marked CG entrance but our GPS showed we still had about a half mile to go. We checked in at the little office and were given the choice of pull through sites with FHUs 12 or 21. We chose site 21. The gravel roads are slightly narrow with some trees but we did not have any issues getting to site 21. The water and electric (50/30/20 AMP) are at the back of the gravel pad. There are two sewer hookups, which was nice. The water pressure was good around 50 psi. Their WiFi was very good. There are mature trees here and there in the CG, so satellite should not be an issue. We got two bars on Verizon. Each of the bath houses have a washer and dryer. Our site was not level and with all the rain we had, there were water puddles at the steps. There are some nice sites in this CG but we were not offered one of the better ones even though there were plenty of sites open in the upper 26 - 50 site area. If we come back, we’ll know where to ask for a site. They have a small lake and two ponds for fishing. There's no formal dog area, but there are paved trails around the large CG area, which made it nice to walk our dogs. We definitely enjoyed...

This is a nice campground for stopovers while traveling. Its close to the highway with easy in and out. Sites are fairly close to each other but clean. While we didn't use the baths, it looks like they are new. Our biggest issue is the campground is set up for trailers and is not at all convenient for class A's towing a car. The turns make for some tight maneuvering. The water and sewer connections are in the end of each pull thru site not in the middle. So while we could connect to water using our extra connection hose, we couldn't connect to sewer using our 20' of dump hose and still pull into the site far enough to get the tow vehicle off the access road. I suspect even 30' of hose would suffice. The connections for back in sites are in the far rear. Again, quite convenient for trailers but not so for class A's. Also, you might get some noise in the sites that are closer to the highway. Ours (#4) was quiet because we were over the hill on the other side. Something you might want...

We stayed here the fri-sun before Labor Day, and this was the first stop on a long trip for us. This was by far the nicest campground we stayed in on our entire trip. The campground overall was so quiet and peaceful. It is next to a small pond for fishing, which also has a walking path around it. It’s also located very close to the interstate, and just down the road from gas stations, a McDonald’s, and a small grocery store. I’m very appreciative of how clean the bathrooms were at this campground. Each of the bathrooms has a sink, toilet, and shower together, so it made getting ready in the morning, or before bed, a lot easier to take care of all your business in one place. You can tell that they clean and maintain the bath house regularly. There were no bugs or spider webs. There is a small AC, so the temp was comfortable. Trash was collected regularly, and it did not stink, like a lot of other bathrooms do. If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely stay at Shawnee Forest...

An overall excellent campground! Beautiful setting. Right outside of the rear window of our RV was a gorgeous pond with egrets feeding along the shore and frogs singing at night. Before being a campground, it was a golf course. The cart paths are still there and provide excellent paths for walking without fear of picking up ticks. The park is pet friendly, which is a must for our family(2 dogs). My wife uses a mobility scooter, so the pathways made it easy for her to see more of the campground. Our first night, the air was so calm that the pond was like a mirror and made for fantastic pictures. Be sure to watch for the turtles that live behind the picturesque bridge. We counted at least 6 of them. The staff was fantastic! Extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed it so much that we extended our stay. Not only was it beautiful, but the WiFi was excellent. We would absolutely stay there again. We would rate this campground in our top ten all-time favorite! And we travel in our RV a lot.

Wonderful quiet campground and a kind, helpful camp host, Billie, as well. Large, clean bathrooms with mini split AC, and convenient bench by the large roll-in shower. Soap in the bathroom, always a plus! We had a pull through space with limited shade, but a great view of one of the large ponds and walking paths. Spaces on the edges were better for shade, but we loved our view from the middle. Good choice for stargazers, as it was quite dark at night. Recommend a flashlight for night time trips to the bathroom, but being able to see all the stars on a clear night would be a treat. Very easy access off I-24 west of Paducah KY, in Vienna IL, great location for peace and quiet. Close enough to the interstate for easy travel, but the highway noise was a only distant hum. Very happy with this new-to-us campground, we will definitely be back!
