👨👩👧👦🏖 PERFECT SMALL SPOT FOR FAMILY 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼Holly Point is the perfect small & quiet family campgrounds! I began going to Holly Point in 2006 & have loved it since day 1! It is MUCH nicer & cleaner than the other options around. I feel safe there as well. I like how the bathrooms are conveniently close by to all the camping grounds, especially if you have small kids. The electric sites are super close to the water, so you don’t have to drive to the water area. It offers really clean sites, both with or without power hookup, with grills & large sites to have room for playing or other setups you may bring. It is perfect for my little ones, as we have camped there MANY times! We have used pop-up campers on electric sites as well as tents & we have NEVER been disappointed. There are also sites further away from the water that are more isolated, if you just want to pop up a tent or use a vehicle to sleep in. These are very private sites that are non-electric areas closer to the entry. I think these sites may be more likable for those that want privacy or may not have kids on board. Even day trips are nice as well, as it’s just a few bucks per car. My children love it there! We’ve celebrated birthdays & more. It’s quiet, without a ton of noise & partying that you may find at other locations that tend to be overcrowded. There has only been 1 time that I know of in the past 15 years (in my experience) that the water was not safe to be in, as they do test the waters for safety which I really appreciate. In comparison to the other Falls Lake sites it has always been cleaner. The sandy area where you go into the water does not feel slimy at the bottom like other locations. You will feel safer allowing the kids to play at the waters edge or even riding their bikes around the area. * Entry/Exit gates close at 9:00pm, but there is a small parking area outside the gate in the case you need to leave for something. So my companion would park a car outside the gate in case they needed to leave for work or go grab food or necessities for the children while the gates were still locked. Do this at your own risk, as you can not see the car from your camp site. There is NO getting out once the gates are closed... only downfall, but it also keeps others from coming in when they’re not supposed to. So I guess it’s a fair trade! (I’ve not been in a couple years now, but I’m definitely ready to go back with my other little ones & keep up on a family tradition that...
Read moreWe have camped at Holly Point twice this summer. The first time, we reserved site 59. It's waterfront and the view is gorgeous, but this site is kind of small and the neighboring sites are very close by. We could hear every word those folks were saying and see them the whole time. We spent a lot of time away from our site kayaking and biking and hiking that weekend, so it wasn't a big deal for us. If you have a larger group or if you prefer more privacy, then I wouldn't recommend site 59.
The second time we camped here we reserved site 119. This site is also waterfront, so it was great for launching the kayaks. This site was much larger and accommodated the four of us with two tents and two cars very well. We were surrounded by more trees and woods and didn't feel like we were awkwardly staring at our neighbors the whole time.
The park rangers are always around, and we did have an encounter with one. It was around 10:30-11 and we were making smores and chatting. Our neighboring sites were still awake and lively, and we could see fires and hear music and other people cutting up, so we felt comfortable talking at regular volume. We were mid-conversation when suddenly out of nowhere, there was a bright light in our faces and a man's voice "This is the ranger!" It really startled us. He shined the light on each of us, took a look around our campsite, told us we needed to "keep it down," and left.
We think he snuck up on our site looking to bust us for having booze or something (there’s no alcohol allowed in the park), and when he saw that we were just making smores he defaulted to the old "be quiet" scolding. A word of advice, watch out for a...
Read moreIf you love camping, dont camp here!!!! We were on loop 4, first camping trip with small child. Campsites on all sides of us were super loud and and partying all night so obviously quiet hours are not enforced here. So, no sleep for us! Oh and did i mention its right on the flight path for RDU Airport!! Planes day and night!! Soo loud!!! Most of campsites on this loop are all up hill to the bathrooms, which by the way were super gross! Worst camp shower ever not even worth discussing. The water spout near the campsite broke on the first day. The ranges drove around a few times a day but that was it. The lake and beach area here were awful! The beach had some flooding and was never cleaned up. The grass was black and moldly and smelly and the beach was never raked..it was probably one of the worst state park camping experiences we ever had and we have camped at plenty! In a nut shell we had to pay $23 a night for no piece and quite, loud and obnoxious adults and kids who are up all night, dirty bathrooms, plane noise and a crappy lake! They dont tell you any of that when you book your resveration!! Wont be...
