Well I have no doubt based on the responses from the manager to reviews this too will be attacked. Just left Sunday June 22. Where does one start? Ok let’s start with why we selected this hotel. Firstly because it boasts a bar, and restaurant. It has neither. It boasts our room comes with breakfast. It does not have any food anywhere. Complete lies. It claims oh sorry we are under Reno’s! No, 3 year Reno’s aren’t a legitimate reason if you are currently claiming such amenities. Next up: a pool! Wrong again. That’s closed too. It also claims free parking that’s about all you get, but as others have pointed out—-it’s scary and very dark. Perfect opportunity to be attacked or robbed. Let’s get into the condition of the rooms. We had to switch rooms because the door handle was broken..literally hanging off the door. Inside we sat for a few minutes until our neighbour turned on the tv and we discovered that the ceiling….was separated from the wall and well….you got it, the sound wasn’t muffled…it was part of our room now. The single positive? The front desk clerk gave us another room pretty fast. Oh they also boast ice machines on the floor…our machine on the 4th floor hadn’t ran in a few years. Caked in dirt, and debris. We went to the 2nd floor. That was really scary. Room doors open everywhere. Filthy positively filthy. How did we get to that floor? Of two elevators only one worked…kind of. There’s a sign saying not to enter floor 2…but the door opens to a disgustingly filthy carpeted elevator that was a biohazard at best. Beer or pop tabs above you in the plastic ceiling…the carpet…burning it might be a smart call. When you get to a new floor, the door does not open. The broken button has to be pushed to get the door to open. It does indeed need inspection, and felt pretty unsafe. On the 4th floor when you enter it, the overwhelming smell of black mould is about as dangerous as one could expose themselves to. Inside our second room we found the grandpappy of spiders making himself comfy around the room. Oddly enough we discovered him on the last day and left him well enough alone. He seemed healthy which would indicate, he has been feeding well. You get the drift. We did find a bedbug…once we got to our friends party in the area they were horrified we didn’t stay at The Hampton. They told us this property had been infested with bedbugs (confirmed), and had been housing homeless people or similar. Now that was not the issue to us, but my gawd….at least close until you’ve actually cleaned up the property. We aren’t picky…but this was reminiscent of bombed out properties we saw in 3rd world countries. No kidding. The water lukewarm, NEVER gets warm nor hot. The double doors to the atrium abandoned, looked like service doors, or fire doors you shouldn’t be going through but we learned why they are closed…to keep the smell of mould from washing over you at the front desk. The people (obvious long term residents) smoking their weed in the back parking lot and dancing…well at least we had some small form of distraction. Our beds were clean…but the air conditioner looked like it hadn’t been wiped in 25 years. Caked in dust and debris. Ice bucket you may say? Nope you have to go to the front desk. Toilet paper? Nope you have to ask for some at the front desk. I know I know, yes it was available but no maid staff on saturdays! Why you may ask? We were told they aren’t in saturdays. I guess because there was no need because the 4 rooms occupied could wait until Sunday…that’s a first. Plugs don’t work, sockets hang out of walls, no form of life anywhere except in our hallway the same “resident” speaking top of his lungs to his wife? Hanging out in the hallway pacing..that later we saw smoking weed out back. Yikes. I helped an elderly couple with their door too…the locks don’t open, and it takes 6-10 attempts before the little green light lets you in. Most doors are just propped open…truth because the locks are just too much trouble. Listen, between the posted city notice that shut down your restaurant, shame on you....
Read moreI don't even know where to start with this place. I really wish I had taken photos to better explain the experience. This was definitely the worst hotel I had during a road trip and I only stayed one night. The staff was lovely and it's not their fault the hotel is old and grimy and gross. The hallways are damp from the pool and stink of chlorine. The rooms are ridiculously out of date and have a generally unclean feeling about them. I didn’t even feel safe leaving my shoes on the floor, much less my luggage.
I stayed in a room on the first floor across from the pool area. There are sliding glass doors in the room that lead to a weird sitting area that overlooks the pool/party area. The doors are secured by a pole in the track, but our pole was bent and didn’t give me a lot of faith in the security of the room. Contrast that to the main door to the room that stuck so bad it was a fire hazard. I am not a small woman by any stretch of the imagination and I had to full on shoulder my way in to the room. It was painfully loud even with a box fan that I brought with for noise reduction. Keep in mind I live in an apartment in a major city, and the noise in this hotel was worse than anything at home. Everything echoes because of the pool area. The curtains don't really block the light from the walkway right outside the sliding doors, so don't plan on sleeping well at all.
The bathroom had no exhaust so there was a bunch of black mold because the walls are textured, so there’s no real way to clean them. The hot water ran out quickly, so my partner and I had to space out our showers. The carpet had seen better days about 10 years ago. Dust and grime on basically everything. I’m sure the humidity from the pool was a big cause of this.
Speaking of the pool, it ended up closing just after I checked in. After a long day in the car I was really looking forward to a nice shower and then a float. However, after I got out of the shower and dressed for the pool, I walked out and they had closed it. Some issue with the pump or filter. Considering the rest of the building, it may have been for the best as I have no idea how clean the pool would have been.
As for building security, the back door entrance should have required the key card for it to unlock. As it was, you could just pull the door open. Seeing as how that entrance and short hallway ran right to the door to my room, I wasn’t thrilled. Maybe that’s why the door to my room was impossible to open.
Breakfast was a brown paper bag with a small water bottle and juice. You had to microwave your breakfast sandwich near the lobby and then figure out how to carry that back to the room. No kettle for tea, you have to ask the staff to heat up the water, so you’re carrying cups of hot tea and plates of food with no trays.
The location is really the shining light of this place. It was a very short drive to the Rimrock Overlook trail, the State Park, and the National Forest. Overall, I really can’t recommend this place. Just not a very good experience. I ended up asking for a discount on the room due to all of these reasons and the manager accommodated my request without issue. Again, the staff were very nice and none of the things I mentioned would be in...
Read moreWe had a room for two nights and the first night the key was messed up. We left and did some trails and went back to the hotel and the key wouldn’t work tried it a few times nothing. Had to walk down to the front desk from the fourth floor and they gave me new card so went back up and still nothing so I had to go back down and they had to call the maintenance guy to come in and open the door it was about 20 mins and he said they weren’t supposed to rent that room because of the lock and we had to get moved to a new room. So we moved all our stuff to the new room we get in there and get a shower and the tub was clogged so I took a bath and a shower. Half the towels were missing. The next day I get up and walk down to get my bag breakfast mind you it is literally in a brown bag with a jimmy dean’s sandwich and orange juice or apple juice that’s your free breakfast. Then go back up to the room and the key didn’t work yet again so I had to go back down to the front desk and get another new card that I had to put in ten times to get back in my room. Mind you with moving my room and all the hassle I went through there you think I would have got a discount or even an upgrade I got nothing not I’m sorry or anything. Also the outside doors do not lock so anyone can come in at anytime. If I could give this location a zero I would I will not be going back to this location ever. If you are looking for a room you don’t get locked out of this isn’t it. The rooms were nasty like they don’t clean very well. Dresser had spilled pop in it that I had to clean before I could even put my clothes away. I have stayed at alit of hotels and I have to say this is one the worst ones I have...
