Moose Hillock Campground in Warren, New Hampshire, is a standout destination for families and campers, offering impressive amenities and a beautiful setting, but it’s not without some frustrating drawbacks that require planning to navigate. **The Good:** The campsites at Moose Hillock are among the best we’ve encountered—spacious, thoughtfully designed, and nestled in a picturesque mountainous landscape. Each site features wonderful large stone fire pits, a significant upgrade from the small fire rings found at most campgrounds, making campfires a cozy and memorable experience. The campground is impeccably maintained, with clean, modern facilities that elevate the camping experience. The highlight for families is the incredible pool area, complete with thrilling waterslides and a pirate ship feature that keeps kids entertained for hours. The poolside snack bar is a convenient addition, serving decent food at fair prices. The fish pond is another gem, providing endless fun for kids who loved exploring and finding critters day and night. The natural beauty and family-friendly activities make this campground a joy. **The Bad:** Despite its many strengths, Moose Hillock has some notable downsides. The campground seems to nickel-and-dime guests at every opportunity. Showers require payment, which feels unnecessary given the overall cost. Early check-in by just an hour incurs a steep $100 fee, and a tiny bundle of firewood costs $10—definitely bring your own! The 11:30 PM fire cutoff, requiring fires to be fully extinguished with water, feels overly restrictive and disrupts the camping vibe. The dump station is poorly designed, sitting higher than the road, making it nearly impossible to drain septic tanks effectively since gravity works against you; raising the road would fix this issue. The store still has plexiglass barriers from the COVID era, which feels outdated and creates an unwelcoming vibe at check-in. The campground’s mountainous layout means many sites are up steep hills, far from the pool, store, and activities, making for exhausting treks. Renting a golf cart for $100 per day is an option, but it’s another added expense. We learned to request a site near the pond or pool, which worked perfectly this time. Additionally, there’s no cell service anywhere in the campground, and Wi-Fi is only available at the pool area. In an era when most campgrounds offer Wi-Fi throughout, especially in cell dead zones, this feels like a deliberate choice to drive traffic to the store and pool, leaving campers cut off from the outside world unless they make the trip downhill. **Overall:** Moose Hillock Campground is a fantastic spot with stunning campsites, exceptional stone fire pits, a top-notch pool, and family-friendly activities that make it a great choice for camping. However, be prepared for extra fees, bring your own firewood, request a site near the pool or pond to avoid steep hikes, and expect to be disconnected unless you’re at the pool. With some planning, it’s a campground I recommend for a fun and memorable outdoor experience.

We stayed at the NH location, reading previous reviews I'm seeing some for the NY location as well. We are a young family new to camping. This is only our second trip with our camper. The previous owners of our camper highly reccomended this spot for young kids and privacy. I called expecting to be told they were booked all summer, but the kind lady I spoke with found me a midweek, 4 night stay that worked for us. -The site was spacious and there was trees between us and the surrounding sites. It was clean on arrival and all hookups worked well. -The picnic table was brand new -The rock fire pit is great, but there is no grate for cooking on. -We arrived about 25min early because Google lied. The lady that checked us in told me about the early fee, but then looked at the time again and said she'd waive it for us. -The pool is great for all ages. It was a bit crowded on our first day as it was the end of the weekend crowd, but it was nearly vacant the rest of our stay - WiFi worked fine for us all along the side of the pool by the concession stand - Our Verizon phones didn't get any service anywhere, but my AT&T work phone worked great at our campsite, which we ran the Hotspot from - $100/day for a golf cart?! No thanks. We drove the truck down to the pool and parked in the lot. - The road the last few miles in is nicknamed the Rollarcoaster Road for a reason. Not that camp's fault. Glad I wasn't doing in winter! - I can see why some reviews say there isn't much for teens, but for my 3yo, 7yo, and 11yo the pool and arcade was more than enough to entertain in the afternoons/evenings after our daily outings off-site. - The maintenance guys are always out and about with a smile and a wave. - The fish in the catch & release pond are small so bring small hooks, good for little kids but you won't have to worry about releasing any wall-hangers Honestly, I have no complaints. We didn't come here to play on our phones or drive around in golf carts. We came here for a change of scenery, to try out our new camper, and unwind by the pool after the day's adventures. I feel like a lot of the negative reviews were either for the NY location, or from people who forgot that they booked a campsite and not a Hilton.

This is a review for the tent sites as I noticed the experience differs a bit when you have a tent. My family and I camp for a week every summer in NH and do most of our cooking over the fire. As others have said the sites are pretty awesome - large and quite private. Tent sites are very woodsy and far from the noisy areas. however tent camping at Moose Hillock has its challenges. Incredibly the fire pits are not designed for any sort of cooking except the occasional s’mores or hotdog on a stick. I was shocked by this. I’ve camped at a dozen different campgrounds in NH and this is the first that has no grill or grate above the fire. The fire pit is huge so even if you bring your own grill grate (which we did) you can’t lay it across anything. We had to spend a lot of effort gathering rocks and arranging them precariously to cook steak and hamburgers. We also used a lot more propane with our mini stove because the fire pit was a big challenge. I actually noticed a lot of tent campers who brought FULL size gas grills for cooking! Also there is no sink or hot water available for washing dishes. This isn’t available at all places certainly but any campground that offers hot showers also offers a sink for dishes. Moose Hillock doesn’t offer this - maybe because most of their campers use RVs? We spent a lot of time heating up water for cleaning. Finally due to the bears that frequently visit the campground - we had to put all the food away every time we left the site. This included our trash. Typically we only do this at night - but the chance of bears is too high here. So every time we went for a walk, a hike, a trip to the pool - we had to put it all in the car. Frustratingly the campground only offers dumpsters a 1/2 mile away at the parking lot so we put the trash in the car all the time. My car still stinks of rotting food. There should be more dumpsters. It’s a beautiful spot and the pool is pretty spectacular for kids but it’s not a great spot for tent campers. We found ourselves working harder than usual to take care of the logistical challenges that Moose Hillock presented us with that it wasn’t as relaxing as it should be. I don’t think I will return.

My family of 6 stayed at Moose Hillock from August 4-11, 2018. We stayed with 2 other families, for a total of 16 people.

Let me begin by saying that we are all hardworking, honest people. We’re respectful people and we expect respect in return. My daughter is 5 years old. She went down the “big” waterslide, as soon as she came out from the slide, she started screaming hysterically. We picked her up thinking she was just scared. To our horror, we realized that she had 3 huge gashes on her foot. One looked like her bone was showing (we later realized it was her tendon). My husband held her as I rushed into the camp store for a first aide kit. The ladies in the store handed me all the necessary tools to help the bleeding. We controlled her bleeding eventually and took her back to our site.

Fortunately for us, we had someone camping with us that is in the medical field. She told us that there was nothing that a hospital would do for us that we couldn’t do for ourselves (bandages, wrapping, etc). We went and bought all of the necessary supplies to keep her comfortable. Changing the bandages was torture for my daughter, it was just a nightmare. I was no longer able to go swimming because I needed to be w/my daughter. She was unable to walk – I needed to carry her everywhere. One day while the 14 other people in our party were swimming, I was carrying my daughter to the pool, so she could dip her non-hurt foot and I felt frustrated. I went to the store carrying my daughter where I saw the lady (who remembered me because she is the one who originally gave me the bandages) -I told her the whole story. She had me fill out an incident report. I then asked her what would happen next. She basically told me that nothing would happen. And nothing is exactly what happened. I was never contacted, not once. No one has called me or visited us (I gave our site number). I thought for sure, someone would do a courtesy call/visit.

I was treated like this just was a random accident and they had no fault. All I know is my daughter went up the slide with a bunch of people from our group, came down and was bleeding profusely and our vacation ended there. That doesn’t just happen.

I would like to add, when I filed the incident report – the lady told me that there is nothing wrong with the slide and no one has come in injured from it. I respectfully told her that with all do respect, just the night before the slide sliced off one of our group members bracelet (you must wear a bracelet the whole time you are there). This member of our group had to go get another one. That same night another member of our group sliced her foot open on the slide and had to get a band aide (needless to say, we were all then done with the slide). When our member went in for a band aide, a lady told her, “you aren’t the first one needing a band aide tonight.” I told the lady that I was having a conversation with about that comment and she said that the member of our group was making it up, nothing like that would ever be said. Insulting, completely insulting.

Like I said, we’re honest. We work hard for our money. I understand there are times when people try to take advantage of other people – but this clearly is not the case. My daughter’s vacation was ruined, my vacation was ruined. My daughter was in extreme pain the whole trip. And nothing was said to us.

Attached is a picture of my daughter’s foot ONE WEEK after the incident. Please keep in mind this is ONE week after and keep in mind, nothing, nothing was ever said to us. I think at this point there should be some compensation. We will not...

Will never ever go back and suggest you dont go either. .we used to love it here. I have been taking my kids here for 10 years. It was a tradition we loved.. One I saved up for as a single mom. Its very expensive. This year I had a trip booked. My son was in a serious accident leaving us in the head trauma unit at Dartmouth for 4 days. This happened while we were supposed to be camping. In the midst of our crisis I thought to have a friend call to let them know the day before we were to arrive. I couldnt from the hospital. They told my friend they'd be willing to "go above and beyond" and give us a gift certificate to use later.. "So long as we got a doctors note from Dartmouth to prove we were there". I couldnt believe the audacity..morally.. To say its above and beyond . its a damn campground. My family was in a tradgedy. I did what I was told anyhow. Our gift certificate was $ 25 short.. Unannounced to me..because of a cancellation fee. I was scolded by a rude manager that Its on the website as if I had time to look while Im in CHAD with my son in critical condition. I couldnt argue. I ate the fee. I tried to re book today. I was quoted one price for a now 3 might minimum. I called back to book and the price was now $ 20 more. I asked why and the first person couldn't help me. I spoke to 3 rude staff members who gave different answers. I told them tgeir mistake shouldnt cost me and im already eating a 25 dollar fee.. Now id be eating a $45 fee..for a tent site with mo water or elect.. Making my total money paid to them for 3 nights $195. I told them while in tears I was beside myself..that I had to save up and couldnt afford this and was very unhappy. They confirmed they wouldn't give me my money back on the gift cert.. So to not lose $ 200 I booked unhappily. I got a call an hour later from manager Heather saying I was nasty to her staff and not welcome and cant have any of my money back. These people are morally disgusting and money hungry. They don't care about anyone..they only care about money.. And thats that. There is no cell service at all..no wifi.. The showers are gross.. The pool and slides are very dangerous and unsupervised.. Its incredibly overpriced and the staff are very rude and condescending. I could go on but Im emotionally drained from how they treated me.. Now I have to find a new vacation for my kids and try to afford it after they stole my $200. The previous owners were so much better in many ways. We will miss those people greatly..and will never forget this experience and how it ruined our tradition. I will be calling the bbb tomorrow and filing a complaint. * *take note of their response to me and others who had problems.. and how they handle their customers folks. Uncaring..unkind. Condescending if they were regretful they could easliy correct it and refund me the amount of the gift certificate they issued me and they cancelled telling me im not welcome. Consider my availability of time make calls and to make a minor staff member ( who is handling customer issues on the phone??) cry while Im dealing with a sick child in my home. Riiight. Sound like honest mature respectful...

First impression, not happy because the place was dead and charged us $45 to check in 1 ½ hrs early - the place isn't exactly pristine, is in the middle of no where and was pretty much empty so I didn't get the problem- the site 141, is up a steep hill and is very washed out - our 35 fifth wheel crushed part of our tailgate because the site has no business being a site to accommodate a large camper from the way you have to pull in off the dirt washed out road

There are a lot of reasons this only recieved 1 star on my end - this was a far cry from a resort. This is a long but thorough review:

resorts have clean facilities -resorts do not have showers that have terrible water quality and smell like feces -resorts have activities almost all day, that staff host -resorts are not run down -resorts do not push religious views -resorts are not terribly outdated -resorts have staff supervising pool areas, especially with small children -resorts usually have friendly staff

The prices they charge and what they offer do not match up, people are not friendly, others have mentioned they are greedy and push religious views - while also not practicing what a true Christian would do. All around awkward...

The wood was obviously wet because the fires were so smokey that it choked you out everywhere you went. My daughter has asthma and had to take her inhaler many times while at the pool (the only real thing to do.) While at the pool, the only day there was a "attendant" was Saturday and they did nothing at all. Kids were all going down slides super fast, kicking other kids in the back, tormenting kids at the end of the slide, kids are cutting up their feet somehow, my daughter had large cuts on her feet. It's just a joke - and the cabanas and covered shaded rental are outrageous by the way. Couldn't even believe what is going on around this pool. I was disgusted. And all the facilities are outdated and in need of replacements. Spend the money on that instead of cabanas no one uses..

"Poolside Cafe" is all cash, ATM fee is $4, bundle of wood $12, load of laundry is $5, .25 for a 5 minute shower that leaves hair disgusting and smells like a porter potty - a female and male staff also entered the bathroom while I was changing up so they could clean! Couldn't believe it!

We saw jugglers twice in on our vacation, apparently thats all they offer for shows - both of them mentioned "how wonderful the resort in NY is and how great the family is, how they are such wonderful people and they give back to the community" etc. I don't quite think that was a coincidence...We tie-dyed t-shirts, staff does not assist its just a free for all, 2 kids shirts were $32. There was "trick or treating" but the place is huge and it's all on the campers to do the actual entire thing. The campground is not providing anything - don't waste your time with that

Walmart is 26 minutes away, gas station is about 10/dollar general the same, Polar Caves are about 20 minutes. There are no restaurants or anything to do in the area - my opinion is to honestly go somewhere else. This place is not worth the small fortune...
