Tried X country skiing for the first time, and about 50 yards from the start, the front of my boot ripped right off. I walked back in, and showed the staff member, who basically blamed me, and then gave me a size too big of boots, because he "couldn't risk me destroying his only other pair of size 9's"
He then gave me a size too big of (also ripped) boots - good thing I caught this before we left again.
While he didn't charge me for the boots, he did make me feel like I wasn't a paying customer. Considering it was my first time, and the boots failed so quickly - I think it is fair to assume they were mostly compromised when I put them on.
Regardless, beautiful surroundings, well-groomed trails. Wish my experience was better - as it looks as if many...
Read moreThe grooming was very good with limited snow. There is a lot of wide open terrain and the wind was howling so that brought a bit of challenge. Not every trail was open due to snow conditions so I can’t comment on backcountry or more rugged options. Good for fast skating in the open areas. We used our VT reciprocal passes to try this out and got put through some questioning when we didn’t have a paper trail which felt a little weird considering things- so that soured me a bit but it’s still a worthwhile...

Our only issue as first time visitors was that it's not clear from the map which trails are classic-only. So if you are skate-skiing make sure to ask them.
