We enjoyed a wonderful week-long stay at West Hill B&B. We’ve stayed at a number of excellent B&Bs in Vermont in the past, but this is easily the best we’ve been to so far.
Given the pandemic, safety was top-of-mind for us when researching for this trip. Before we had even arrived at the inn, Peter and Susan made sure all the logistics regarding the check-in process were well understood and squared away. After we’d arrived, it became immediately clear that Peter and Susan had taken robust measures to ensure the safety of their guests. A few examples are listed below The inn itself was extremely clean. The surface areas on furniture looked pristine. Multiple hand sanitizers were stationed conveniently throughout the inn. Guests were guided to different sections of the inn while dining.
Overall, we felt very safe. In addition, other highlights of the inn include Super comfortable bedding, which based on our past experience certainly shouldn’t be taken for granted in a B&B. A uniquely beautiful common area and a stylish library (with a pool table included!) Susan’s highly creative and delicious breakfasts Tigger and Snowball, some of the most lovely cats we’d met
Just as important as those highlights, we believe what contributed to the hundreds of other great reviews posted on this site was the hosts’ dedication and detail-orientedness, which I’ll demonstrate with a small example. There is a communal Macintosh computer in the library that guests are allowed to use. Upon logging in, I was greeted with a sticker note saying something to the effect of "for the benefit of Windows users, the Control and Command keys have been swapped. Please let Peter know if you have any questions." The fact that the hosts would take the time and effort to make such an adjustment — one that is unlikely to be noticed since people tend to bring their own laptops nowadays — speaks volumes about the care and dedication they’ve invested into making their inn as comfortable as possible for their guests.
Two bonus items, the inn is a mere 5-min drive away from the Sugarbush ski area. After a day’s skiing and snowboarding, we would bring our boots inside and place them near the fireplace so they are nice and warm the next day. Separately, a helpful property guide was provided before our arrival. It was very extensive and contained most, if not all, of the things one would conceivably need to know during their stay. We especially liked the section on recommended restaurants. We tried out a number of them, all of which turned out to be excellent.
We are really glad to have met Peter and Susan, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We are looking forward to our next trip to the area, and highly recommend their...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I have made West Hill House bed and breakfast our year round, go to getaway spot because Peter and Susan’s hospitality, the incredible three course breakfasts, the coziness of the inn, and the proximity to hiking, skiing, restaurants, and breweries truly cannot be matched anywhere else that we have traveled to before!
As many people are right now I’m the midst of the pandemic, my boyfriend and I wanted to leave our New Jersey home for a long weekend and do some fall foliage hiking. However, we wanted to make sure that wherever we went was safe and following all Covid protocols. We didn’t even have to reach out to know that Peter and Susan would be doing all they could to follow the rules while still making their guests feel at home, but I emailed anyways just to confirm. We were told that could come, but that we would need to quarantine for 14 days based on the county we are living in, so we shut in and did just that so we could head up to West Hill! And we were truly so glad we did.
Peter and Susan are not operating the inn at full capacity and have done so much to make everyone still feel the warmth of the cozy West Hill House while keeping safe. They have individually wrapped cookies that guests can snack on throughout the day, they are always there to answer the phone and quickly grab a guest tea, coffee or a beverage, and they have all guests dining at separate times and locations within the inn for breakfast instead of the usual community table at 8AM.
Regarding the rooms themselves, they are all marvelous and cozy! But this time we stayed in the Paris Suite - a larger room that has a large table / desk so that we could do some work during the week. The wifi is always reliable if this is something you’re looking to do! We absolutely loved this room for the space, the ambiance and the whole room dedicated to a large jet bathtub!
I can not recommend this B&B more highly in both Covid times and regular times - I promise you will leave rejuvenated and already planning your...
Read moreEscaping the heat to the somewhat cooler Vermont countryside, we celebrated our anniversary during a two day stay at West Hill. We couldn’t have found a better place! Susan and Peter have about perfected the art of hospitality, making us feel like special guests in a place that reflects their Canadian and Scot heritage, international travel, and local Vermont. Our rooms in the Paris Suite were clean and comfortable with every attention to details for the comfort of travelers, including a Jacuzzi. And in case of inclement weather, the house offers a variety of comfortable rooms full of interesting details, books, movies, pool table, games, and all inviting us to spend more time in them. The outdoor areas during July are gorgeous; we enjoyed morning coffee in the gazebo overlooking colorful gardens and a small pond complete with fountain and blooming water lilies. For our anniversary dinner, Peter and Susan set up reservations for us at a fabulous farm to table restaurant in nearby Warren. From the heated mugs for morning coffee to an evening single malt toast on the canopied deck, this place was truly a pleasure. And the breakfast portion of this b and b was equally superb. Susans several-course creations were a delicious and substantial start to the day. On our last morning we shared the breakfast table with two other couples. Peter’s hospitality facilitated interesting conversation among us and we enjoyed each other’s company even as we enjoyed Susan’s breakfast delights. These comments may seem overstated— but they are not! We have stayed in many places, and West Hill is by far one of the best. We look forward to a return trip. Thanks,...
