We had a great time at the races, heard many great comments about the track! Want to see more places host ATV's and want those business to flourish to help the sport flourish. So why is my review only 2 stars? The RV area. The name of the venue is Aonia Pass Motocross & RV Park and the RV Park portion is not what I would consider a park. Lets take it from the top - Pro - The sites are very long, plenty of room for extra parking and room to work on the quads. We were in site 114. Con - FAR TOO NARROW! Couldn't comfortably open awnings and slides and have room to walk around between sites. Suggestion - There is enough room to have 2 rows of RV's, you could space your sites further apart and stagger them and actually increase the amount of sites available. Con - Not Level Suggestion - You have grading equipment for the track - use it to level your sites. Con - Unimproved sites, literally nothing but an electric, water and sewer hook-up in the grass Suggestion - spacing is again an issue here - there is plenty of room for fire pits and patio areas, but with the spacing as it is, you would have to put it at the front of the site and drive over it to park w/in reach of the connections. More space per site. Con - Multiple water outages per day I can't speak to suggestions for this, I just know it was frustrating, though we could overcome it by using our water pump and holding tank, but I'm sure there were others who could not and just had to wait it out. Con - 30amp connections Suggestion - the obvious - upgrade to 50amps because as RV's offer more and more conveniences, they also require more and more power. Con - one bathhouse, not conveniently located Suggestion - for the number of RV sites and people there - you should have 2 more bathhouses - and actually in the RV area, not the spectator area. Con - zero amenities Suggestion - a play ground for the littles, some picnic shelters would be easy and inexpensive and is the lake in the front not part of the park? Could it be used for swimming?
Pro - Beautiful piece of property with so much room and so much potential Con - poor traffic control Suggestion - just providing a map of the park would help people to understand the traffic flow. Con - not enough signage Suggestion - bigger and more directional signs Con - no rules - like quiet hours Seriously? People riding around at 1:00am? Con - golf carts and ATV's driving everywhere with no restrictions Suggestion - there is plenty of room to make a "bike/quad/golf cart lane" - this would help immensely with the traffic control.
Now - about pricing - we paid $205 for 3 nights, which equates to $68.33 a night. But when we inquired about staying an extra night, it was only $30. Not to mention we paid $7 for a bag of ice! The rates were far too high for the quality of the RV accommodations. In fact, one might make the argument that you were price gouging since you are the only game in town.
Lease a spot to an ice vending franchise and make residual income while offering your patrons a reasonably priced product. Same for concessions - there are services that will run the whole concession service with no extra burden to you. You could also invite food trucks to your events, you can find registries online and you can be helping other small businesses as well as offering a convenience to your patrons that again is not a burden on you.
Overall, I see a ton of potential but quite a few missed opportunities. Again, we want to see more of these events and we want to see the venues that host them...
Read moreThis place isn't fancy, but it's got all you could ask for. Modern MX track, vintage motocross, a great flat track with a loop for TT, awesome trails for cross country. Lots of space for camping with power and water hookups. If you're used to super built in venues like barber, this can seem a bit primitive, but it's a basic facility. There are bathrooms and showers, but they're not great. That's about my only gripe. Otherwise it's the place my family goes to get three generations of riders out on the track, trail or field at the same time...
Read moreGlad to see Aonia is still going strong. I spent my entire childhood and teenage years here. I cant even begin to count how many practice and race day laps I put in at this track. The last race I ever raced here at Aonia was the 2004 Loretta Lynns Qualifier I was on the gate with Mike and Jeff Alessi on Varner Motorsport 250f's and Zach Osborne on a KTM super mini I believe we were in the school boy class hard to remember. PJ Larsen use to put in some crazy laps at Aonia as well....
