We stayed at Stowe Cabins with our 2 dogs at the end of January. The cabins are easily accessible to Waterbury and the village of Stowe. Off route 100, the access road winds up behind the Green Mountain Club about half a mile to the office. The road was plowed and sanded and easily navigated; the sidewalk to our cabin and the porch were shoveled. ||||Upon entering, we noted that our cabin (#5) was warm, clean and without odors. The bathroom sink, tub and toilet were impeccably clean as was the kitchen sink and refrigerator. Bathroom towels and bedroom sheets were almost new (if not brand new). There are faint patches of grey on the ceiling. Mold? Maybe.||||As other reviewers have mentioned, the full bed is a tight squeeze in the room. We pulled it away from the wall so we could get in and out on both sides. We did not use the bunk bedroom but it looks exactly like it does in the photos. ||||Each bedroom has a shelving unit and a wall mounted pegboard for clothing. The bathroom also has shelves, a pegboard and lots of dry storage under the sink. This may be the place to store some of your luggage if there is not enough room elsewhere. There was plenty of hot water and the toilet flushed well each time.||||The kitchen contains some really vintage dishes (some of which are chipped and cracked and should be replaced immediately) including dishes with metal edges that should not be used in a microwave. The drinking glasses were new and in good condition. There were 2 coffee mugs and a little milk pitcher that matched one of the coffee mugs. You may want to bring your own coffee mugs and/or travel mugs just because. There was a glass serving bowl, a colander, flatware and multiple cooking utensils. A washcloth and towel was provided for dish cleaning; if you prefer a sponge, bring your own. No kitchen paper products such as paper towels and napkins are provided (so again, bring your own). ||||There is a good assortment of pots and pans in the cabinet; kitchen electronics include a multi-cup coffee pot (and filters), a toaster and a small microwave. The refrigerator is full sized. As noted in previous reviews, there is a sign above the sink advising cabin residents to wash dishware and utensils before use. This is a common-sense recommendation given that the owners do not have time to wash every single dish and utensil every time a cabin is turned over.||||While there is not a lot of food storage space in the kitchen cabinets, the space above the refrigerator is ample. I stored most of my food in the refrigerator, whether it needed refrigeration or not because it was a convenient place. The dining table is adequate in size, an additional chair is available in the bunk bedroom.||||Other reviewers mentioned seeing mouse droppings in their cabins but I saw no evidence of mice.||||We traveled with 2 dogs and were delighted to find metal dog dishes under the sink. There were plenty of places to walk the dogs. While we allowed the dogs to roam about the cabin while we were there, we crated them while we were gone. We brought a couch protector to reduce dog hair on the couch.||||The WiFi in the cabin worked just fine for us and we did not use the television.||Some reviewers have noted that the cost was high for what they were getting. Compare the nightly cost of a cabin with the nightly cost for other options in the area - and factor in the additional cost of pet accommodations (whether you bring them or board them). Add in the cost of going out for every meal (vs. eating "in" at the cabin. ||||Yes, the cabin decor is outdated. Instead, enjoy the timeless decor outside. We were very happy with our stay and would return.||||Suggestions for the owners:||---Purchase some plain Corelle dishes (plates, bowls, etc.) for each cabin. These are less likely to chip and break and can be used safely in the microwave.||___Provide more heavy duty coffee mugs for each cabin.||---Remove the curtains so that the simple and attractive window frames are in full view. The curtains serve no purpose because they do not fully cover the windows. All windows in the cabins have full blinds anyway. Less...
Read moreMy family stayed in Cabin 3--Chestnut for two nights on our recent visit to Stowe, VT. The only reason I am giving this place even one star is because it is in a great location. Surrounded by beautiful woods. Though be prepared for a very bumpy ride on the way to your cabin as the road has pot holes and ditches in it. This place is Tucked away and private. Which we enjoyed. And, very close to all the areas attractions that you might want to visit. But, that's where the pros stop for me. I have read other reviews and understand that you need the expectations of staying in a cabin rather than the expectations of staying in a resort. The problem is, that on our vacation this was not the only cottage/cabin we stayed in. But, it was by far the dirtiest and least kept place. In fact, I wiped lots of things down with clorox wipes while I was there. So I am convinced I am leaving it cleaner than we found it. It smells musty. There has been no effort made at all to even wipe/dust blinds. Or clean cob webs. Or even have regular maintenance or repairs done on things. There were cob webs everywhere. the blinds were COVERED in a thick layer of grime and dust. Our bed comforter and sheets had pet hair covering them. I understand it's a pet friendly cottage, but the fact that the place where we were sleeping had a thick layer of pet hair all over it just made it feel like nothing was even washed or cleaned in between visits. Our towels did smell clean but they also smelled of cigarettes. There was black mold in the bathroom. This place might be a nice place to stay if they took cleaning seriously. At this point, they probably need to rip up all the carpet and put down hard floors of some kind. And, update the bathroom. Replace blinds. I understand that these things are expensive. But, they are necessary the older a place gets. I feel like this cabin is just a huge health hazard waiting to happen. We almost left straight away after seeing the state of things. But, decided to just suffer through it afraid we would not get a refund. I am thankful our days were spent away from the cabin and we were really just using it to sleep at night. My son is allergic to dogs/cats so his asthma flared up during our visit. And I was just relieved when we were pulling away from the cabin and moving on to a different location during our trip. I wouldn't recommend staying here to anyone who values...
Read moreSo it is my last night here at Stowe Cabins in the Woods, and it's been a pretty great week overall. The cabin was clean when we arrived (though it had that "we hadn't been used in a few weeks musk, which we aired out in about 30 minutes) and Ed and his wife were very nice and informative. We came up here for a week with our 3 dogs and the place was just the right size for all of us. Our only real complaints are ones that the owners couldn't fix. Due to being in the woods, the cabins do not get a lot of sun light. Also, because 100 and I-89 are relatively close by, you never get the whole "super silent" experience (but we DID get it on many of our awesome and super convenient hikes). We stayed in cabin 5, which has 2 bedrooms, 1 with a full bed and 1 with bunk beds. The internet worked (although it was a bit slow), so don't expect to do a lot of work if you're staying here (but of course, if you're on vacation, why are you working!). Also, there are some nice (short) trails all around the cabin for a nice evening hike or dog walk.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for people who want a little house of their own on a budget, and who care more about what they'll be doing outside of the cabin than what their time in the cabin will be like.
While we rarely travel to the same place twice, we would definitely consider using the cabins again if we were to ever travel up to...
