Great place to hang out with family especially if you want to explore the Shenandoah mountains but not stay in wintergreen. The place has a chic interior and the cottage has a firepit with great views. Be warned that the charge $200 cleaning fee for the cottage and booking it on AirBnB adds another $200 to this. So book direct on website. There is no staff to check you in or help you in anyway. Period. The only method of contact is through phone or email. The support folks will never answer your phone however they do a semi decent job of responding via messages. The rooms themselves were clean and well appointed but it appears there is still otuch up left to do. The shower pressure is highly dependent on anyone using the kitchen water faucet. Overall a great place to stay but be aware that this is not really a place to bring your kids or for elderly non tech savvy people. You have to respond via email to confirm that you are arriving before they send you a door code to enter your property.

Nice place. Very well located on the Nelson 151 corridor. Room was clean, everything seemed well maintained. Quiet and lots of parking. Responsive and good customer service. Constructive criticism I will offer is: 1) water in the shower never got “hot”. Got lukewarm but not hot. Not sure if rooms share a common water heater or if the water heater is gauged to only allow a certain temperature but it never got hot. 2) Mini fridge was loud. We unplugged it at night. Not sure why it was loud. 3) Bulbs in some of the lamps were those weird sterile ultra white and bright light bulbs—pretty sure they’re LEDs. The lamp on the desk however had one of the “warm” LED lights which was more aesthetic and what I’d recommend for all the lamps and lights in the room. Ultimately the only criticism I’d prioritize is the hot water. Not sure what that’s about but because I was only there for a night, it’s forgivable. Thank you!

Travelled here to get away from the city (DC area) for one night and BaseCamp 151 provided a luxury experience! I had texted the hosts with a question before checking in and they were prompt in their response AND there was no having to deal with an automated text service. The location is beautiful and a straight shot to all the wineries and breweries. The beds are so comfortable that I got the best sleep in YEARS. The attention to detail in the lobby and the rooms makes for a very boutique experience. I loved it and will definitely be coming back! Thank you for your hospitality :)

Do Not Stay Here – Worst Experience Ever!

I booked Base Camp 151 in June 2025 for a three-night stay in August. The booking clearly stated my credit card would be charged upon arrival. Instead, weeks before my stay, I received an email saying the property was under new management and I’d have to rebook. At that point, my credit card got charged. When I replied that I wasn’t going to pay twice, they instructed me to “just rebook and then dispute the first charge with your credit card company.” In other words, they knowingly double-charged customers.

According to one of their own emails, the owners never actually changed — just the management company name. This shady loophole allowed them to double charge unsuspecting guests. Absolutely unethical.

Leading up to my stay, I sent repeated emails and made phone calls trying to get the first charge refunded. No one ever answered the phone, no one called back, and I got nothing but runaround over email. Eventually, my credit card company refunded me — but only after weeks of stress and wasted time.

Then, right before our trip, I needed to cancel one night. Their website clearly states cancellations under five days get 50% back. They refused. I had to fight for that refund too.

And then came the actual stay — the worst part of all. • Dead insects all over the pillows and bed. • Only one hand towel, two washcloths, and two bath towels for two guests. • Air conditioning didn’t work. • No staff on site to handle issues.

I emailed for an extra pillow and towels. I followed up multiple times, explaining we had a wedding to attend and needed towels to shower before 4 PM. At 2:32 PM I finally got an email saying the “onsite team” had been contacted and would deliver the items. They never came.

This was, without question, the most unprofessional and frustrating lodging experience I’ve ever had. Between the double charging, the lack of accountability, the filthy room, and zero customer service, I regret not booking a real hotel. Stay...

This place was very cute and had beautifully decorated rooms. Suite 1 was so nice as it had its own back door to go directly outside or the front door that led to the interior and lounge area. The doors all had their own codes which are provided before you arrive and made it easy to not worry about losing keys. I would say perhaps providing directions on how to operate these locks might help as our friends stayed there too and found it difficult to use the doors at first. The location of this place is great because it is nestled between many wineries and breweries or hiking trails so whatever you fancy, this place is nearby it all. Suite 1 is where we stayed and was dog friendly which was so nice because we were able to bring our dog with us and the large open grassy area was great for taking her out on short strolls. The fan in Suite 1 needs the fasteners tightened because it was knocking heavily especially on the lower speeds and at night while trying to sleep, but that is not a big dig in our overall experience there. We'd definitely stay again as we really enjoyed the...
