The 10 mile stretch was fantastic. The water was very clear and moved at a good pace. There were a decent amount of trees and small rapids, but nothing that a beginner couldn't handle. Our 7 year old paddled the first 3 miles and the last 3 miles (and free loaded the middle 4). But only an experienced paddler should probably do this run after a heavy rain. It took us 6.5 hours, but we made several stops to check out the waterfall (mile 1), eat lunch, cliff dive on the bluff (mile 3 or 4), and enjoy the rope swing (mile 7). We brought most of our own kayaks, but did rent one from Crazy Horse. The kayak was pretty nice (sit on top Perception) for a rental place. The paddle was pretty basic and they did provide a standard orange life jacket that we did not use since we had our own. The put in at Crazy Horse and the take out at Blue Rock are private property so we hired Crazy Horse to pick us up at the Blue Rock and take us back. It worked very well and the drivers were friendly and helpful. We went on a Wednesday and had the river mostly to ourselves, maybe seeing only 3 other groups. They said on weekday, they have maybe 100 to 150 people on that stretch all day, but on Saturdays they put in over 1,000... sometimes 1,300. Saturday is for the party people and the weekdays are probably better...
Read moreI understand that businesses such as this have extremely high over head and a limited time due to seasons to earn income and turn profit. We asked many questions about drop off, pickup ,parking ,and camping.Never got a straight answer about camping and not real clear answers about the other questions. I sensed we ere an imposition because we weren't local people and had our personal watercraft. We opted for another outfitter who has a camp at one of their takouts. We heard staff members barking orders at clientele like they were in the military. What was most discouraging was a young man who hid his staff shirt in our camp so he could trap a very confused individual. The take out area is clearly marked no camping no parking but says nothing about taking your boats out or putting them in and at what cost if any.The young man even chased an individual up the hill yelling cheapskate.Sorry Crazy Horse I know some of your guests had a good experience but a lot wont bother with a review because they didn't contract with another outfitter and and don't see the difference.I am sure you will have a good explanation in your reply but it really doesn't matter now, the lack of professionalism was a...
Read moreLoved our camp spot! It was beautiful, but, as the name implies....its crazy! Granted we go Memorial weekend...but have floated and camped this weekend for 16 years with various other outfits. Getting on the water and off is very chaotic! More organization would be great. We have our own boats and bring usually 20 to 30 other people with us who rent. However, after seeing the tranport folks drop or lose a few going down road....I am hesitant to let them tranport for me....and there is no option for hauling your own. Paying to park at blue rock to haul your own could be an option. Also, when you camp at the family campground....you still have to transport from the south side even if you pay crazyhorse to transport for you...unless I am mistaken about that.Lastly, even though quiet time at family campgrounds is 10pm...they still shoot fireworks after 10 on the south side.....we are only seperated by the river so....not really quiet after 10! The potential for improvement in those areas are great. This is not a bash post....we still enjoyed our weekend and float! Like I...
