This little campground was the best surprise of our 2 week trip. We were not expecting much, but we got far more than we expected, and would gladly have spent 2 days/nights instead of the one we booked, if we'd had a flexible schedule. We were lucky in choosing one of two tent sites close to a toilet (no water available except at a pump) that also serviced the group site, which had no one staying there. The top half of the campground was deserted except for us. The pad was rocky, which was the only downside. I left with painful scrapes on my knee that sent me to the closest Walmart to purchase a stadium pad, which I used successfully for the rest of the trip to pad my painful knees. That was the only detraction, apart from the tent pad being small, squeezing our two tents in close together. We walked around the campground and out onto the road, where we encountered a herd of free-range cattle. The scenery was beautiful, the campsite was surrounded by trees, and there was a camp host making rounds on a golf cart. Others complained the 8 mile road to the campground was narrow and dangerous. We didn't find it a problem at all, although I suppose if it had been dark and pouring with rain, it might have presented more issues, especially in a large RV. The road is well-paved and the scenery is beautiful. If you are looking for somewhere off the beaten path, Angel Creek is definitely the place to go. This is dry camping without flush toilets, but well worth...
Read moreA really great surprise at the end of a long driving day.
This campground is about 7 mi from Wells, NV near I-80. I was concerned about camping here because the temperature driving across Nevada was mid-90s (F). But the elevation gain really knocked the temperature down. The temperature at the campsite was at least 10 degrees F cooler than down in Wells. It really changed my opinions of camping in Nevada.
The campground itself has nice views of the mountain, and it probably 1000 ft lower than the lake at the top. We were in site 11, which I liked, it was on the top row of sites and lots of scrub brush between us and the camp road and other campers. The mountain and rise are west of the campground, so you will lose direct sunlight earlier than sunset. Good to know for next time since we use solar to recharge.
The campsite had a concrete pad at the front, and was dirt further back. Several box toilets, so although the campground was full it wasn't a problem in the mornings. There is a camp host at the campsite (2021) who sold firewood as well.
Only wildlife I saw near this campsite was a badger crossing the road. First time I've seen one...
Read moreThe campground itself is actually 3 star or so. Thing is, my family has been hosting our family reunion here for over a decade now and it has been great for that. The shade is sparse in some campsites, but great in others. It's mostly knowing which sites to get and which ones to avoid. Most sites are all pretty close to the bathrooms. They do have a handicap site which is something like 40' long for the parking spot which ironically that one is slightly farther away from the bathroom than the other sites are. We usually will reserve the entire lower loop for the weekend and that can have anywhere from 30-70 or possibly more people if you wanted.
The convenient part of this campground would be how close Wells is as well as Angel Lake. So if you need anything for your site you can just run down to town.
Just remember to clean up your site when you are done with it! Also, it's smart to pack in firewood should...
