After some questions on original post 6-27-15, I revised this 3-22-16. Where Do I Start? - It’s All A Façade! FACTS: 1. The day we met Julie, she complained how recent former guests had done this or broken that; 2. She assured us that the wedding would have full shade for the wedding, it did not; 3. She assured us that alcohol would not be served till 9pm; 4. She lied about several things including my daughter saying “she had just changed her mind”; 5. A sign was put up telling the guys they had to use the outhouse, not the restroom inside, in the heat, in tuxedos; 6. No ice in the room temperature water that was served in the 108 degree heat; 7. Ants covered the chairs and guests at the wedding; 8. Julie was rude every time she spoke to us; 9. She got mad when my 6 year old twins wouldn't pick up plums that were previously covering/smashed into, the wedding site lawn-bribed them-and never paid them! STORY: My mom, daughter, sister and I went out to see Warm Springs Inn for a possible wedding sight for my daughter. Every time we turned around something was broken - a bridge, a 2 person swing, wrought iron lawn ornaments. And Julie kept complaining about how former guests had done this or that. We asked how the sun hit the lower lawn at 7:00, "Oh it will be in full shade". Julie answered. We asked about the downhill walk to the wedding sight and back up to the reception, for the bride’s great- grandparents, “You can just drive them down, drop them off at their chairs and drive them back up afterward” was Julie’s reply. My daughter said she wanted to respect her and her family, friends and pastor and not have alcohol served until 9 the night of the wedding. So that was written down and latter confirmed 3 times by my daughter! Julie made everything sound so do-able and perfect! Long story short, it was out of our price range, but my daughter's new in-laws rented this place and offered to pay. She was convinced to have her wedding there. On the wedding day, everything changed. It became clear that the bride’s family were second-class citizens. We weren’t allowed to drive the speakers, full keyboard, etc. to the wedding area – we packed it all down and then back up the hill. Nor was there a way allowed to get older guests there as assured. We had the option of air conditioning in the upstairs master bedroom (108 degree heat) or we could dry the bride’s hair, but not both – and the breaker still “popped” 6 or 7 times. We ended up putting her makeup on without lights too keep the room cool enough that she wouldn't sweat off her foundation. Every time I went to ask for help Julie acted frustrated and snapped at me. There was no room for the bride to get ready, an occupied room was borrowed and people kept barging in on us – needing soap (they ran out in another room), this or that was forgotten, etc. My 6 year old twins were playing with all the plums that had previously dropped from the tree and were trampled into the wedding area - so Julie, in frustration, offered them a dollar to pick up all her fruit– and then never paid them! When my sister couldn't get her to answer where exactly to hook up the reception music, my husband had come over and be direct with her to get a straight answer. The wedding chairs were covered in ants and when I brought this to WSI’s attention – “I’ll wipe the chairs with Windex” – when we sat down the ants were still swarming! At the reception, against the bride’s confirmed request, alcohol was served prominently, not after 9:00. When I asked Julie about this mistake – she told me flippantly, “the bride just changed her mind – it happens”. Finally, when our family was attempting to be helpful and cleaning up decorations and flowers, instead of leaving them on the ground, after everyone else had left, my uncle was turned down in a request for a garbage bag. I am shocked by such unexpected and unprofessional treatment. To end on a positive note, the food was very good and Ludger was genuinely helpful and friendly whenever we...
Read moreWe stayed with Julie and Ludger for 5 days over my 40th birthday and a house finding trip to the area. Everything about the place was fantastic. Prince the peacock was a fun perk. We stayed in the Garden Suite overlooking the roses and mountains. It was a lovely, comfortable room with a separate changing area, seating area, and the views from the bath were gorgeous. They were very cautious with Covid-19 and made our stay welcoming and safe. Ludger made incredible meals every morning. They were beautiful masterpieces that incorporated the fruit grown on property and delicious food from local vendors. They had a European Bistro in Seattle for over 20 years and the love and details Ludger put into the food shined through with every bite. They set up an unbelievable spread of cheeses, meats, hot bread, sautéed mushrooms, white beans with pesto, watermelon with mint, nectarines, cheesecake with fresh blueberries and many more items for my birthday picnic by the river. Along with their wine and some bubbly to celebrate. My girlfriends wanted to help make my 40th special since I couldn’t have a party or go on the epic trip I was planning, so they had wine delivered everyday. Julie typed up the messages from them and displayed for me in a fun way every day. The daily surprises were wonderful. Their wine is delicious as well. There are many spaces where you can enjoy nature, the beautiful mountains, flowers, birds chirping, and Wenatchee river on their property. There are multiple porches, decks, gazebos, and a hot tub. We felt like we were transported to an incredible dream world. I could not recommend this property more. If you want a comfortable bed, out of this world hospitality, and delicious food and wine, please check in to the Warm Springs Inn and Winery. You will not be disappointed. We cannot...
Read moreMaybe we just happened to choose the most perfect weekend of the year, but our experience at the Warm Springs Inn was simply magical. What could be more perfect at a rustic country B&B than to be greeted at the door by the innkeeper, covered in dust from a long day tending to his vines? Yes, this funky old house was built in 1906 and the current owners are in their 11th season, but the place is impeccably kept — even the stairs didn’t creak! Our room (the English) was spacious and well ventilated and the bathroom is clean and roomy for such an old house. ||Owners Ludger and Julie Szmania are the most charming people and made us feel like old friends visiting their gracious home, as you might expect from retired restauranteurs with a background at the Four Seasons Olympic and as proprietors of one of Seattle’s most treasured dining venues, Szmania’s in Magnolia. Ludger and son’s Brender Canyon wines are served by the winemaker himself in a charming tasting room accompanied by knowledgeable and educational conversation. The wines aren’t showy, but rather are the sort of food-friendly expressions of varietal and terroir that a chef would want to accompany good food. The breakfast is prepared in the open catering kitchen by the owners and was the perfect expression of the wonderful fruits of the Columbia Basin, including eggs laid on premises. ||Not “4-star luxury” but instead the gracious and personal touches that make up...
