We picked this campground because it was closeby us, and I'm glad we did. Whoever runs it seems to be living out their dream--if you come on a weekend you'll get a sheet of activities offered or any special themes going on. There was a dj at the pool, ice cream specials every evening at the store, canoes and paddle boats for rent at the fishing pond, several playground areas, horses and goats and chickens to look at, and a flashlight candy drop at 9 pm. Very family friendly, my children had a blast. We did have to drive to bathrooms/showers cuz they were a ways away from our site (and there is only one), but everything offered was decent and clean. Electric and water at basically every site, and a little creek running by many of them. I would recommend this place to anyone!

After a last minute decision to go camping for Labor Day weekend, Hickory Run was one of the few with available sites. Upon looking at their google reviews I questioned if this was even worth it as some of the reviews were quite scary. WELL….. form your own opinion! I have nothing but amazing things to say about this campground! From the initial call for booking (the VERY friendly girls in the office), to the facility, activities, grounds, lake, etc., it was great! A huge shout out to the girls working the office/store! Even at times that they were completely swamped, they had the most positive and helpful attitudes! I also spoke with the manager who was very kind and appreciated the positive feedback. Do yourself a favor and check it out! We will definitely be back!

Seasonal campers for a year- and we've been waiting to make this for just as long.

The manager, Charlie, said that the site we wanted (for 2025) was open the last weekend in October 2024- as long as we paid him cash for the weekend. My husband ran up, got everything hooked up and got the heat turned on. As he was getting ready to head out to work, Charlie approached him and said that the previous seasonal camper wanted to use the site for the weekend and that we couldn't stay. When asked how that was even possible (since our golfcart, camper, and outside furniture, etc was already on the site) we were told that we could leave everything but could not stay.

That's when we read the reviews and realized what a mistake we made. Having already signed the contract for this season, we decided to try it out for the year.

Having the manager holler at seasonal campers at bingo (that you must pay for)- about dollar store table cloths being torn- and how he will cancel bingo completely if it happens again- was off putting to say the least. We all sat stunned at our table but not the seasonals that have been there for years. This seemed completely normal.

We watched as this man berated other guests, treated campers like trash- all while he couldn't get anyone their key cards for 3+ months (that you pay $50 for) or maintaining the roads in the campground (like you're navigating craters on the moon), or even keeping the office open during "open" hours.

Our final straw was being accused of trashing their bathrooms- especially after my bestfriend was accused of trashing it with her kids. The owners son told us that he watched her run between the bathrooms. Little did he realize- she could barely walk because she broke her tailbone the night prior. She certainly wasn't running nor was she and/or her kids trashing any bathrooms. It was so disgusting and unbelievable that we decided not to return after that weekend. We had already paid the rest of the season and haven't been back since July.

Poor management doesn't even begin to describe it.

I fully expect this man to come on here and argue and make stuff up (see his responses to other reviews. What good or even decent "manager" acts like that?!) Our rent was always paid on time, we were respectful and courteous (even when he did not deserve it), and we are feeling free!! This campground is NOT worth $5k/ year.

It's sad bc you can tell that it used to be a great spot. Longtime seasonals spoke of better days from decades ago and all seemed to largely plave blame on current management for it's current condition.

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND SANITY. There is a reason why they are the only campground in a 50 mile radius with openings. There are PLENTY of reasons- starting with the horrible...

First off, we have been going here for the past 9 yrs, for Halloween camping with our niece.|| This past weekend was the worst weekend, Halloween 2, ever at this campground. The management has no idea how to run a campground or control their patrons. This weekend was to be for the kids.||||1. First, I received an email from the management that I need to finish paying off our reservation. Fine, after arriving ? I went into the office to get my AAA discount, sorry you already pairs how can you show your card over the phone to verify your membership? Did not get my discount!!!||Also, in the email it stated no FIREWOOD to be brought into the park. You must purchase it there. No signage in the office for pricing, how or what to do, and no bundles of wood. (I guess it went on what they felt that day) No signage going entering or exiting, nothing about this on rules on web page.||||2. Management was very disorganized with putting on costume contest and activities for the younger crowd the kiddos. Could not hear what the directions were during contest.||||3.Total disregard for this park rule. I quote -----||"Alcohol must be kept at your site. It is not allowed in any other area or building of the campground. Consumption by minors is not permitted and is illegal."||People were giving out Jello shots to people coming around to trick or treat with there kids. Sometimes as much as 4 shots per person, and they were not weak either. You could smell the booze. They were driving around on golf carts & walking around carrying open bottles of beer. Management did nothing at all.||It was like a drunk party for adults.||||3. Nothing done about the Loud, Obnoxious, Foul Language late into the night. Way past midnight I quote from park rules ----||"Quiet hours are from 11 PM to 8 AM daily and all children and young adults are to be on their sites during these times. "|| Again, management done nothing.||||4. Steps going up to the Bathhouse were roped off with one piece of caution tape at either end. NO signage to " KEEP OFF" not were they blocked off so they could not be used. ||I don' t no which was worse, people trying to used the handrails to go up and down the hill on wet grass or using the steps.||||5. They had a bonfire on Saturday evening. While leaving at 3:15, Sunday afternoon, we saw that the ember site was still smoldering with no hose or water container around to help outen it. ||Total disregard for all the patrons that were in the campground that Saturday -Sunday evening. No signage of how or where the other exit was from the park in case of an emergency.|||| Now, that my niece has seen how bad this new management, she's thinking their must be a better place to go camping for us. We think she just might be right...

Where do I even start tried to find the zero star button and the lowest it goes is 1. Me and my family sorry let me change that group of 12 different sites have came to this campground for well over 25 years and for the last 4-5 years it’s gone down hill to the point where there were barely and campers this year. First out of the 12 campsites in our group 8 had multiple problems with there “Manager” or if you can even call Charlie a manager only thing he’s good at it picking fights and yelling at people in the most unprofessional way I’ve ever seen. My brother had just gotten to the campsite paid for his day pass and guess you you guessed it Charlie comes racing down to my site saying that we are being charged for another site because we had set up a tent for my cousins to stay it and he only got there that day. Charlie starts yelling at my brother that he knows my brother stayed in that tent last night and that he don’t want him to lie. So my brother said “ I literally just checked in with the office and paid my day pass so no I did not and nobody has yet and Charlie proceeds to call us liars. So my cousin gets there and pays for a separate site like we told him we were. Then few hours later my another camper pulls in and Charlie chases him down because we forgot to hang out parking pass “our fault I admit that” non the less he says hey could you get a parking pass in the camp store, so we say it just in my camper I’ll put it on I just forgot to. And which should be good enough no.. Charlie yells and says if I tell you to do something I expect you to do it and we both tell Charlie “ what a great place to camp why wouldn’t anyone want to come here to have fun being yelled at by you we will not be back next year” and Charlie tells us we are not welcome anyways. Most unprofessional campground and so called “management” again that I have ever seen. Again this is just a few of the things that had happened to us this passed weekend I also wanted to mention when Charlie wants to cuss in front of my 3 and 5 year old yeah we will never be back. We have at least 6 campsite people in our group not going back and it’s all because of “CHARLIE” And if you don’t like my opinion just scroll a little he’s the most famous person on these reviews. Couldn’t be more disappointed used to be a beautiful place and amazing staff I guess all good things come to and end when you...
