Evergreen Motel refused to reimburse thr cost for a single night stay when my family canceled our trip due to financial reasons with Covid-19. It was the only hotel on our planned trip that did not reimburse the full cost. However, because of an awesome accident, some friends of mine were making a trip to Glacier NP, and I used the opportunity to tag along so we could put my family's $200 room to use. That was unacceptable, but it gets worse.
The room was musty and smelly (typical for older hotels), so I went to turn on the fan. I found two holes, one on each side of the A/C unit, that open up to the outside. No screen. No insulation. Just long wide cracks in the thin plastic accordion. I went to the front desk to talk about possible repair and the brunette woman at the front desk was completely inhospitable and careless, saying "she didn't know it was like that". She brought duct tape down to patch the holes, and I asked for more blankets in case it got cold in the room. She pointed at the heater and said sarcastically, "This is a heater, it makes it warm in the room."
I tried to laugh off the rudeness and asked, "If we are here because you wouldn't reimburse the cost of the room, we can't have extra blankets, and we have a hole in the window, can we at least have coins to access the laundry facilities? (I only asked because we haven't been carrying change since the pandemic began and we were planning on staying in for the rest of the evening.) She said there were no laundry machines available and as I continued to talk, she walked out, completely ignoring me. As she left, I see a closet within steps of the door to our room and guess what's inside? A washer and dryer! Like if I should use it anyways (kidding, but don't give these crooks your money).
Also, just found out the deadbolt...
Read moreThis motel is a hidden gem. We got cabin 3 and then got a second night for room 10 because cabin 3 was taken the next night. Each was different and very accommodating. Cabin 3 had 3 beds with one of the beds in a separate room. There were two TV's, fans, and AC's per room, a sizeable fridge with freezer, microwave, large coffee maker, coat rack, and dresser. The entire place was very clean with little soaps, plenty of towels and very nice looking with lovely natural wood board walls and bright lighting. We really enjoyed the comforts of the room. The curtains blocked out the light that didn't set till past 10pm so we could sleep well. There was a lovely outdoor table and chairs set on the front porch patio. Absolutely wonderful to enjoy the evening sky. This location was only 6 minutes to the West Glacier entrance. The next night we stayed in room 10 which was a studio and 2 beds with a sizeable couch and apartment sized fridge with freezer. It had an electric stove and kitchen set with glasses dishes and utensils and pots and pans. There were dish soap and towels and wash cloths. It also has the amenities the cabin did. Really surprising for a motel! Excellent value! The hostess we meet for the two days had dark brown long hair and was super nice as was her mother in law. Very conversational! So friendly! Upon check out was another lady with short blonde hair and abrupt. She said she was co-owner as well of the motel. Thankfully I only had to turn in my key. I would recommend this place for the other ladies hospitality and the wonderful stay we enjoyed! The other lady might have been...
Read moreAdorable place, manageably friendly people, and so many curious noises out in the woods. So happy I pulled off the road at the right time; I’d had my fill of the drama of the open road, so I stopped here at the Motel to get away from the madness, multitudes, and moroseness of the empty blanket stares of the drivers I tried to get to wave back to me. Before paying the concierge for a room, I met a lady in the parking lot whose name was Carmen and she tried to sell me a life insurance plan. Even though I told her it wasn’t really my thing to bet on the future like that, I still listened to her pitch, and admittedly, I thought she’d get me eventually. But then I remembered something my cousin Fabian said to me back in Arizona before I left for my friend Gelly’s wedding. He said, “For every person who exits this world, another one’s on the way — in fact just now arriving.” That kind of thing, the possibility of how we are not trapped but welcomed into this cycle of births, rebirths and the inevitability of death . . . that’s the real life insurance. The knowledge that we are all in this together. Even though I turned down Carmen’s initial offer of life insurance, I did invite her back to my room for some wine, crackers, a cheese board preserved in plastic wrap, some candy, and the sharing of ghost stories. I also accepted her taking another crack at making the life insurance pitch. Spoiler alert: I turned down the contract a second time too. I’m just a man, after all, and men are intrinsically created to become an example of what not to become in life.
