We had a great experience camping at Fish Creek. The worst part about it was trying to get the reservation - it's extremely hard to get reservations inside the park. You have to be online (preferably have several people online) refreshing continually on specific sites to try to be the lucky one who snags one the millisecond the recreation.gov system switches to being open. It's like winning the lottery if you get one (for real). Beware that there is a huge variety of shapes/sizes/slopes of sites inside this campground. The sites along the water in Loop D are huge and spaced out - just gorgeous. Loop C is a no-generator loop and quite a few sites there could hardly fit a backpacking tent, and even then on a slope. Some of the sites in C are on the water and have decent room and some are on the water and pretty small. We were in Site C141 and managed to just squeeze our 10x15 tent into a spot between trees in the back. I added a few pics of nearby sites, too. ||||Although we weren't on a waterfront site it was literally maybe a 45-second walk to access the lakefront, and the views there are gorgeous. The short Rocky Point Trail can also be accessed from there going east along the lake from the campground, and it's very pretty. We were able to just carry our inflatable kayaks down to the water from our site, which was super convenient. Although we were there in early July, we were able to sort of swim (many people were swimming/playing in the lake - it wasn't as super frigid as we anticipated).||||The only showers are a bit of a hike from where we were - on the other end of Loop A. We had one good shower and one later in the evening where there was no hot water left and it was absolutely freezing. There's no charge for the showers. The amphitheater was on the way there and had ranger programs every night.||||The location of this campground is super convenient - close to Apgar if you need ice etc. or if you want to eat at a restaurant, and it's considered to be on the Going to the Sun Road Corridor, so with your reservation here you don't need a ticketed entry, which is super helpful. Overall Fish Creek was a great spot to be and we were so thankful to be...
Read moreThis is a campsite, not a hotel. They have various campsites depending on your needs. There are some sites large enough for trailers. They have several tent sites with decent parking. There are also tent only sites that have no parking specifically for hikers. I think this is the best spot to camp inside the park. The campsites are good sized. And it's only a couple minutes walk to the lake. I was able to fit 2 tents and 2 vehicles on my site comfortably, and still had room to have a nice campfire with all 5 of us spaced out nicely. At the end of the night it was nice and quiet but there was also good cell service to stream a movie if we wanted. I think this is the only campsite that has service on that side of the park. I came from the entrance near Whitefish. I stayed the night and had great cell service. The next day I started driving toward the sun road. Within 5 miles I had lost cell signal. I drove up to the summit and then back the way I came. I didn't have a cell signal again until I was within 5 miles of that park entrance. I noticed that I drove by Sprague campground which was also near the west entrance. I didn't have any cell signal when I was driving, hence my assumption that there would be no cell service in...
Read moreI would say we were very lucky to stay here. Initially we were looking to stay at Big Creek but it was full at the time we arrived. We stayed in the B loop for one night then moved to C loop. This site was incredible. Biking distance to the villages, Lake McDonald is so close we carried our paddle boards there from the campsite. The shore access is just beautiful and watching the clouds and light change on those mountains is something else. Our experience was fantastic as there was minimal people there. The sites are fairly spaced. We couldn't really hear anyone but if you had a loud neighbor, it could be annoying. The restroom and gray water station are walking distance. They had "Community Bear Boxes", we didn't use them but others did. FYI, Glacier is strict on putting away coolers and anything that will attract bears and other wildlife. They will confiscate your stuff if left out and unattended. Unfortunately I left ours out for 15 minutes unsupervised, they came and drove off with them in that time. Absolutely stunning lakes and mountain views. Try to go during the week when it may not be so busy, enjoy the trails and the scenic highway. We did see 2 bear in the park. Crystal clear...
