Please subtract one star form this rating to be more accurate rating. I guess this being a government run operation you get what you would expect. I wanted to make camp site reservations. Having never been to the park I wanted to talk to someone about the various camp sites. Not going to happen! Their system always funnels you around to a call desk that is clueless about the actual place you are going. I told the guy I wanted to stay at a campsite in Glacier National park. First he asked me how did I spell glacier and then he wanted to know what state it was in. Totally unbelievable! So he ends up looking at the same reservation web page that I was looking at. Again this is not worth anything. Gee! Do you think it would be too much to actually have a human being that is familiar with the park to talk to? My plan this summer was to head out to the north west and visit many of the national parks. This really turns me off to that idea. What good are these parks if they are almost impossible to get good information on. We have done the just show up and hope for the best in the past and that sucks to say the least. Very disappointed to say the least.

8/5/2018 Follow-up comments: Despite the lack of good available information and against my better judgement we packed up the van and headed to Glacier National Park. To our surprise there were tons of available camp sites. We even were able to stay in a cabin in Apgar Village for two nights. We had a great time exploring they many sites at both the Western entrance and the Eastern entrance...

Many Glacier Campground is near the Swiftcurrent Motor Inn and it was truly an oasis off the beaten path of Going To The Sun Road. Nell's Restaurant was fairly priced and tasty when we didn't want to cook at our campsite or for a quick bite before our day hike. There were many hiking opportunities for all level types in the area. It was quite chilly to tent camp at end of June (rainy, 45 degrees), but the views were worth it. We hiked the Grinnell Glacier Trail which is right nearby. You will see the turquoise Grinnell Lake and postings for a bear frequenting the area, although we didn't encounter one. There were moose in the area and one walked right by our tent one morning in the campground. Come early! The Campsites remain mostly full, as there is no day limit. Half of the campground is reservable, so if possible, do it! We arrived in the evening and it was posted as "full" but we luckily found the very last non-reservable site of the day. Bathrooms are located within the campground with toilets and cold sink water. Showers are separate, paid for at the Swiftcurrent Motor Lodge. Quiet campground aside from the LOUD hand dryers in the...

No cell service of any kind on Verizon, ATT, or T-Mobile. Verizon and T-Mobile via Pepwave roof mounted antenna, ATT via phone. Our space had enough of a tree clearing to use Starlink with low reliability. Guest WiFi was available at the Swiftcurrent Inn though I didn't test the speed.

We stayed for 3 nights. This is a suburb location surrounded by towering mountains and close to tons of amenities and activities. Views vary by site. The Swiftcurrent Inn has a public laundry room. A dump station with potable water fill is on the road to the campground. Water spigots are strewn about the campground as well.

The access road to this portion of the park is partly dirt. Our site and the others we saw were extremely narrow and overgrown with vine maple and other plants. The combination made it very difficult to get into our pull through site without scraping anything. The site was largely level. There was a moderate amount of tree cover but we still had enough solar production for our needs. The pros of being overgrown was good privacy...

This campground situated us perfectly to explore the northeastern section of GNP. There are many trailheads around here leading to stunning views of glacial lakes. If you are looking for a strenuous hike, the nearby Grinnell Glacier hike is well worth the struggle up, and it offers beautiful panoramas the whole way. As for the campsites themselves, they are equipped with the usual picnic table and fire ring. If you're camping in the off season like we did, make sure to bring in your own firewood. It was hard to find around the area. We arrived around 5 or 6 o'clock on Tuesday, September 26th, and there were still many spots open. The area is wooded, which gives you a decent amount of privacy. The bathrooms at this time of year were primitive; vault toilets that were kept pretty clean. It would've been nice to have another vault though- there were lines at the one! They also cut off the water pumps in the primitive camp season, so make sure to bring in drinking water. Absolutely stay here if you get the chance!
