The hosts were not very friendly. At first, Bob greeted us friendly, He let us borrow a map and bear spray. However, Nancy did not like our presence for some reason. We arrived at their place on a later side, as we wanted to make the most our of our visit to the park. So, perhaps she didn't like that. Or maybe the fact that my mom and I were from Russia... and she doesn't like Russian women. She was also very sarcastic on the fact that I wasn't really aware that they called themselves Bed and Breakfast, sorry... but no need to be rude. Nancy and later Bob too did not make an eye contact with us for 2 days..even after I complimented her on breakfast and her quilts, she did not bother to be nice either. Although the guest book had great reviews from others... So i was really surprised why we were treated as such...
They do make great food and location is about 25 min from the glacier park, which is convenient. If you want bread or anything more that's in a to go breakfast, you have to ask in advance. The bed is very comfy also. After processing a payment on my Master Card they also charged us again on our other card, hopefully we can resolve that.
So overall the stay was good, considering the fact that we tried to find something close to the park, as our goal was to hike as much as possible, given our background... but the hosts were not...
Read moreNancy is very knowledgeable about the area and things to do. Between our research and her input we didn’t have a wasted moment. Glacier isn’t at the top of our list of great places to see, but it was a trip well worth taking. We were able to get a pass for Going to the Sun Road the first day we tried. Also recommend white water rafting with the outfit just outside the park entrance. However, since the white water is mainly derived from snow melt, August was too late for much adventure. But the trip down the river was gorgeous. The only thing we didn’t do and wish we would was to spend some time on the river down from the lodge. However, we did walk down once. Didn’t pay much attention to the path going down, and sort of got lost coming back. Wouldn’t have been a problem if we paid more attention going down. And we did see a bear a short distance up from the ranch. We didn’t want to have to test the bear spray. Thankfully we had neglected to take the bear spray with us on way down to the river and Nancy stopped us and told us to go...
Read moreWe rented the "Little Bear" cabin at the Smoky Bear Ranch. It was exactly as advertised. The craftmanship is very nice, and the setup makes a lot of use of a relatively small space. It has that "little house" feel that's so popular these days. Of note, anyone not interested in a loft bedroom where you need to go up and down a ladder of stairs to get to the bathroom on the 1st floor might prefer their larger cabin, or their B&B. We loved having our own space (meaning not just a hotel room), and having a yard area where we could have a campfire and sit outside. One of the best things is having this type of setup so close to Glacier National Park! Scott and Nancy were good to work with and very accommodating. We were very pleased with our stay and would consider going there again if we're back in the area in the future. Glacier National Park is gorgeous, and this destination as one for getting away, getting out in nature, and doing some hiking definitely...
