I didn't have any plan to stay in a primitive camp while going to enjoy the Merle Fest, a Bluegrass festival at Wilkesboro community College. But I didn't have much choice other than getting this place, since all the hotels were taken long before. And the weather was heavily rainy. I was little scared to go to the camp in the beginning. Once I went there and seeing Kathy, and her son Gavin, and getting there help and assurance, I was feeling secure. As time went by, I started to fall in love with the place. Little stream with sweet sound of flowing water, birds' chirping constantly, and beautiful scenery of Blue ridge mountains gave me serene comfort, which cannot be compared with anything. Kathy and her two sons are always present for any kind of help. Bathroom is very clean, and cabins are beautiful and clean. This place is a gem in Blue ridge mountains. I am definitely going back, there, soon to enjoy the...
Read moreI was looking for somewhere different to stay not a hotel or an Airbnb and since I was going to be in one of the most beautiful areas of West Jefferson, I checked out Camp Karuga! It was fantastic!!! They have beautiful tent sites, but I chose one of their cabins with the loft sleeping area. It was amazing ! a porch with a rocking chair or swing within listening distance of a creek with the crickets and the birds. A fantastic fire pit/grill, which was perfect for cooking and s’mores !! It was so back to nature.! I didn’t even miss Wi-Fi! And we actually went horseback riding!! ( who does that anymore?) Blowing rock was amazing as well as the town of West Jefferson, so old-school/modern. Do not miss Ash County cheese, factory, and country store. In fact the whole town was amazing. thanks to Kathy and her family for taking such good care of us. We...
Read moreWe were there 2 weeks ago and enjoyed the grounds so much. Also the weather was beautiful! The cabin was nice and comfortable. It was fun to sleep on the loft. We cooked on the fire pit which was awesome (it’s a fire pit that doubles as a barbecue!) We rode the horses and went on the trail with Kathy, Rudy and Gavin. The bathrooms were clean and modern. There was plenty of hot water in the showers. I would recommend any family to go to Camp Karuga. About a mile away there is Blue Moutain Parkway that takes you to Blowing Rock there you can see the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. We...
