I recently spent two nights at this quaint B&B in the country, run by a very nice couple, Sally and Dave White. I was very impressed with the service given by Sally, who offered to carry my bag up the stairs to my room and at my request, left a thermos of hot water and a mug in the main building's dining room so I could make my own night-time tea in my room. These people know the meaning of the word service! ||||The Rooster's Nest is housed in two buildings, one being the main house where breakfast is served with rooms upstairs, and another smaller building with two more modern looking rooms in it on the second floor. Although the main house looks very old, it was built in the 1990's with wood from the early 1800's. I choose to stay in "The Roost" in the newer building, as I preferred a more modern room, and also because this room had a view of the forest. This B&B is situated on 23 acres of forest with trails throughout it. Each morning the views from my room were stunning as I could see the rising sun through one window and the sun's rays piercing colorful fall leaves of the trees through another. So I highly recommend this room. The bed was very comfortable, decorated with a pretty quilt. The sink was in the bedroom, but that was fine, and the bathroom was roomy. Kind of an old shower head, but it worked. Nice soft towels, and Larabars available for snacks. The peace and quiet was wonderful.||||The breakfasts are nice spinach/egg casserole sections with fruit and homemade bread. The "gathering room" where breakfast is served looks out through a large window to the pond. There are roosters of all kinds or their image on everything!||This B&B is close to many terrific natural areas for hiking, including Chaparral Prairie, Adams Lake State Park, and The Nature Conservancy's Buzzardsroost and Lynx Prairie walks. So this place is a natural for the conservationist and hiker. Cruiser's Diner in Seamans was a good place to go for lunch or dinner.||||What I liked best about the Rooster's Nest was its location in the middle of a large oak/hickory forest, the amazing quiet, and how the owner's appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds them. The pond is available for fishing and swimming in the summer. Unfortunately, this B&B is for sale, but while the current owners, the Whites, are there, it is definitely...
Read moreMy husband and I love antiques, log homes and places of history and the Rooster's Nest B & B fit all three of those criteria. It's out in the middle of nowhere (which is what we wanted) and it's a log cabin situated on 25 acres of land with a beautiful little pond beside it and it was so quiet and peaceful we loved it. That being saidif you're looking for a place to have a lot of actionthis is not the place for you! Our room looked out over the pond and we both kept saying what a wonderful view to wake up to each morning. We stay in a lot of B & B's and all of them are unique and have their own features but if we had to describe this place it would be to say it's homey :) They have a lot of nice antiques and lots of roostersfrom whimsy ones to pictures of roosters to glass ones. All of the dishes and glass ware we had for breakfast had roosters on them and they said a lot of the roosters they had were gifts from family, friends and repeat customers. Dave and Sally were super nice hosts and before I even met Sally I had a suspicion she was a retired teacher (like myself) and she was :) The breakfast she made was awesomewe started out with something I've never heard of nor ever had but it was delicious. She took sliced bananas and it tasted like there was some brown sugar and oatmeal in it and baked it and then finished it off with some ice cream on top.Yummy!! Then for the main course she had raspberry stuffed French toast, ham slices, assorted fruit on skewers, homemade blueberry bread and coffee and tea. She even gave us a loaf of friendship bread to take home with us! We really enjoyed talking with them as we ate breakfast, too.It was a wonderful stay and we really enjoyed their...
Read moreI stayed at the Rooster's Nest B&B in June 2014 for a friends get-away and found the setting even more charming than the pictures in their website! Our hosts were friendly, knowledgeable about the area, and welcoming. We were served gourmet breakfasts and made arrangements ahead of time for a dinner one evening. The food rivals anything in top restaurants! The B&B was full of antiques and (of course) rooster-themed items. The surroundings were beautiful in summer and I imagine they are just as wonderful in every season. There are 2 guest rooms in the house and 2 more in a building a few steps away; all rooms require you to climb a set of stairs. The 2 rooms in the house had smaller bathrooms. My friends and I had room to play games at the dining table overlooking a pond. We also visited and played more games outside on a covered "deck" by the pond. We visited Serpent Mound and enjoyed the countryside. There were 6 in our group but the Rooster's Nest can accommodate 8. Perfect spot for friends or a couple looking for something relaxing. I wouldn't...
