We stayed here for a week. Upon check in they went over rules. It was stated to put everything away at night. Nothing about the day time. They ladies checking us in were very nice. Throughout the week others were in the office the deal with. Not sure his name but he could usually not be bothered with helping the guest. At one point he was busy looking up building erector sets to rent out his paddle boats. The last night we were there we received a call at 3:30 stating the game warden came through and we until 5 to get our cooler inside or they will come back and take them and will be fined. Being In Yellowstone you will find out you usually donât have service. We got the massage at 6pm so drove to the campground arriving around 6:30. The âsonâ told us the game warden took our coolers and we will have to wait till he comes back to return. Come to find out over 10 coolers were taken that day some people got them back some did not. One of ours was empty and was a yeti with pop. We asked for a number to call and he stated he would call them for us. We left it alone for the night. Friday morning check out time is 11 my husband went up to find out what the deal was. The office guy said he didnât have the coolers and he would call the game warden. The warden arrived and come to find out he never took the coolers. The campground took the coolers and were to give them back when the sites returned the night before. They had over 10 coolers in their back room. The game warden basically said they had no right to do what they did. After a ton of hassles the coolers were returned and we left! Besides the guy being a jerk all week the site was fine and the view was great. We would go back if the one guy was gone!! Yes the road is rough but the view and lake is great. He ruined the trip for multiple sites!! The game warden and sheriff deputy was amazing dealing with...
Read moreMadison Arm Resort is a camp ground located on Hebgen Lake about 20 minutes from West Yellowstone. The camp ground was lovely with beautiful views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The fishing is said to be outstanding, we did not however do any fishing. You can rent pontoon boats and kayaks. This is where the review gets sort of ugly. To get to this resort, you must access by forest service road 291. You can either access from route 20 or route 191. The email confirmation recommend calling first to see which road direction was better. They told us to use the 191 access and we did. The forest service road was so bad that you had to travel at 30 mph to keep from getting totally shaken to pieces. I am towing a 12,000 lb. 5th wheel rv and let me say that it did not like it one bit! Traveling at these speeds on dry âwash boardâ roads is not only bad for suspension but hard on the tires as I learned when a valve stem on one of the trailer tires was damaged and I had to go back to town with the tire to get it repaired. Then there was the mouse problem. We are from New Jersey and stay in a seasonal camp ground there and NEVER had any vermin enter our RV, all the places we have beenâŚ.. ever, until we arrived at this location. We have trapped 4 and we were there for 3 nights. We were speaking with other transient campers and they kinda felt the same way about the access road. In conclusion, if you love beautiful views of lakes and mountains and have the equipment to navigate such harsh roads, this is the real deal! If you have big $$$ class A, C and 5th wheels, just be aware of the road conditions. It would be unfair if I did not mention that these roads are absolutely not the responsibility of the camping resort but the state forest service. They maintain them and I guess the campground or my rig is not of any...
Read moreFamily of 4 booked in advance for 4 nights for access to Yellowstone mid July 21. First, hours of operation are 9am to 6pm during peak season. Not a great accommodation. The RV sites were crammed together, so much so that the neighbors sewer line ran behind my RV where our outdoor cooking takes place. My water hook up was over the top of the neighbors sewer port. We moved sites after the second night to a site without full hook-ups to get away from the sewer smell. The bathrooms were not cleaned the entire time we were there, not being dramatic. Same waded up TP in the corners of the bathroom for 5 days. Upon check in there was confusion with my bill and was not charged at check in. I went back the next day to settle up and paperwork was still not ready. I was not going to wait until 9am every day to resolve the issue when getting to the park early has benefits, and the office would already be closed when we returned for the day. Access to the resort is either a 5 mile or 6 mile wash board road that had to be traveled at less than 10mph to prevent damage to our RV. The staff was friendly, but just not engaged. There was no brief of the resort on checkin, and we were unable to access beach area without moving through a campsite or going to The marina and walking over. Water level was extremely low on the lake. Not mentioned during reservations or check in. I know everyone is struggling right now to get back to baseline, but if we hadnât already been to 3 previous privately owned campgrounds prior to Madison Arm I might not have been as critical. The resort doesnât have a Dump site or tell you where one is located. I would have rather spent the money on a generator and taken my chances with dispersed camping. We ended up finding a dump site at Grizzly RV in town. If looking for areas check this place...
