I almost didnt want to write this review because this resort felt like our little secret slice of heaven while we were visiting the Yellowstone area with our two teenage boys. Yellowstone is 35-40 min from the resort. You will welcome the scenic drive after all of the hiking at Yellowstone. You will come down a winding gravel road that makes you wonder where the heck you are going. On this road, you may see Wolves or cows.....we saw BOTH! ||When you arrive, Jenny will greet you with a smile and a tour of the grounds. She is both gracious AND funny. If you stay in the rustic cabins, expect no more than a bed and refrigerator, EXACTLY what we needed to get the full MONTANA EXPERIENCE! The bath house is updated, and VERY CLEAN. ||We brought cooking utensils, but found that many items were already provided.||Each cabin also has a grill, electic cook top, refrigerator and a picnic table.||BRING YOUR GROCERIES and charcoal. We whipped up sandwiches, steaks, and beef chili quite easily.||Then...along came Cowboy Mark! He was just as gracious and funny as Jenny, and we found him to be a true gentleman that loves to chat with the guests.||He hooked up my 16 year old and husband with a Jon boat to go out on the lake. ||The drive TO THE LAKE is part of the adventure. Its a one lane road and you better hope no one is coming the other direction!||We woke up our final morning to a CATTLE DRIVE. To see the cowboys on horses driving cattle over the hill while sipping coffee was simply one of the best experiences we had on our trip.||The drive to West Yellowstone was simple. The park itself is VERY CROWDED so when you stay at this resort, you will be so glad you are removed from the crowds.||Bonus for older kids....BASKETBALL HOOP, VOLLEYBALL, BOARD GAMES, AND HORSESHOES on the grounds.||We needed very little and asked for nothing. Wilderness Edge was simple and perfect...

It got a bit chilly (30-ish) overnight a few nights, but the fire in the cook stove kept it plenty warm, and there was a space heater to use if it was needed. The bath house is newly updated and heated, showers were great, and all was extremely clean. The staff was amazingly accommodating and made us feel like family.|We stayed 5 nights in June while planning to visit the west side of Yellowstone, but ended up spending half the time at the retreat instead, with basketball, horseshoes, volleyball, fishing and hiking. The trout fishing was great, Cliff Lake is breathtaking, and the boat rentals are very reasonable. A 2-day non-resident license was $50 once you tacked on all the required conservation fees, but well worth it.|We enjoyed the camp fire a few nights, and you will never see more stars than in this sky at the Wilderness. There is wifi in the lodge, but we all enjoyed being unplugged for the week and doing the things that you don’t do when you...
Read moreI am one of around 16 mostly retired biologists who make an annual trip to WE in late May-early June, primarily to fish in local lakes and reservoirs (Cliff Lake, Henrys Lake, Hebgen Reservoir and Quake Lake). We have been doing this annual week-long trip for around 10 years, and it is a high point of the year for most of us. We hope to continue for many years to come. We enjoy outstanding fishing in the nearby lakes and reservoirs. All of us agree that Wilderness Edge is an outstanding place for us to gather. The location is ideal for our fishing needs. The staff is outstanding; always helpful and friendly. If we have problems, the always-friendly staff always gets right on it and fixes the problem quickly The accommodations are also wonderful. Everything is clean, the kitchen is well stocked, and the setting is incredible. It is an ideal place for large groups to gather in a beautiful setting isolated from civilization. I highly recommend...
