We stayed here for a wedding! We thought it looked so romantic and well cared for. The hosts were very nice and personable, but I don't think we had the best experience, but it seems like plenty other people have! The bed was super comfy, the water was hot, and the house is beautiful.
We kind of expected to be offered some kind of partial reimbursement for the issues, but weren't. We shared this experience with a few other people, and they all also were surprised we weren't.
-- When we arrived, they mentioned the heat wasn't working but the HVAC person had come. They hadn't checked before we checked in though, even though they knew what time we were arriving, so when we arrived, the heat was still not working and it was FREEZING (October, in New England, on the water).
They brought in a space heater, which did provide heat although is not necessarily the safest to have on at all times when no one is in the room or at the villa. It kept getting caught in the door, but it was really the only safe place to put it.
While they had a space heater, the AC kept turning on, cancelling out the space heater. When we arrived after dinner friday night, the room was STILL freezing. We were nervous we weren't going to be able to shower the next day for the wedding if things didn't improve, so we started to make alternate arrangements to ensure we could do what we needed to, since the room wasn't reliable.
They ended up turning off the breaker to the AC to make sure it didn't turn on again, and it was ok the second night, but was not the comfortable and stress free experience we were hoping for.
There was also very little information provided- like, there was a board to mark down what time you were going to need breakfast, but we didn't find that out until after we arrived to breakfast. We had to ask where to find the ice machine (which is outside and we didn't get a response until we were needing to leave), and generally just felt a little bit lost and bummed at the experience. I think in the future, definitely call to confirm the day of that everything is working in your room, and make alternate plans if not. And a booklet with information or QR code to a webpage would be super helpful and not have us needing to text the hosts and wait...
Read moreAs you pull into the stony driveway, you’ll notice how private it is and then you pull up to the building and find that it is just beautiful! The Mediterranean style home sits back a little from the road and is surrounded by vegetation. The very well-kept gardens have amazing flowers to marvel at and you’ll notice a cozy pool area.
After you park and walk in, you’ll be greeted by Leslie, a positive woman with a big smile, eager to assist you with every need. Leslie will get you checked in, and then take you for a short tour of the grounds, pointing out the cafe area where she and Geoff (her partner innkeeper) prepare breakfast every day for guests. She will take you inside the cafe and show you around and when you step in, it is like stepping into your own kitchen, but with a few more tables. Next, she will give you keys to your room (there are 6 inside the house, and two in the carriage house) and thank you for choosing to stay and let you know if you need anything at all you can call or text her personal number. Leslie and Geoff are always on site and you might see one or both tending to the gardens or just checking to make sure all is well.
When you enter your room, you’ll notice how comfortable and clean it is right away. We booked the Cielo room, which is a penthouse corner suite. Everything was perfectly neat and clean and well stocked. Leslie asks throughout your stay if you need anything and is very attentive.
One of my favorite spots on the grounds is the gazebo in the courtyard. It is secluded and all around you is nature. Behind the gazebo are woods and you might see some wildlife! We saw a doe with her fawn (spots and all!) doing deer things while we sat and enjoyed a beverage. Leslie happened to be outside one of those times tending to one of the gardens and she came over and we chatted about all kinds of things! It felt like I was talking to a sister!
The beach is a 2 minute drive down the street and stores and restaurants are also very close-by. You can also have anything delivered if you should choose to stay in.
This was my first experience at any B&B, and I was NOT disappointed. I so glad my first experience was at The Villa in...
Read moreI hate to write a mixed review, especially of a small business, but I find the other reviews baffling and feel obligated to inform potential future guests. The prices were a stretch for us and we had hoped for a rare treat. While the place itself is lovely, and the service staff were congenial, the innkeeper was not. We received a gruff phone call at 5pm the day of our arrival from the innkeeper Michael, asking when we would arrive. As it happened, we unexpectedly spent the day with our child in a pediatric walk-in clinic and said we would arrive at approximately 6:30pm. Michael had never previously mentioned by email or on the website when check in was, but told us he would stay late for us. He then left us an annoyed voicemail at 6:44 right as we arrived and were searching for the entrance in the dark. We later found out from another staff member that check in is usually 3-6pm. He was unmasked throughout our interactions indoors (we were masked but he didn’t ask our preference or offer to mask). He did not let us know the hot tub was closed for the season and we only found out when we tried to use it - that info is not on the website either. And we were asked to select what time we wanted breakfast and selected 9am but were not served our eggs that Michael had prepared until 9:45am. While we tried to be polite and respectful we were were not treated with the same courtesy by the innkeeper and it definitely took away from...
