. I've been to many KOAs . This location is well run and managed. The good customer service started when we made our reservation back in December of 2024. Within a few hours I got a call back and we had our reservation in place. Excellent Customer service.
This was our first time staying longer than 5 days at any campground. This 9 day stay was starting in the memorial day weekend, so I made my reservation early. In fact I was a little worried because we spent the Friday of the long weekend at a campground near Buffalo NY and arrived here on Saturday where the party had already started.
Check in was quick and easy along with being friendly. Our site, was perfectly level and really clean. The place was already packed for the holiday weekend. 2 years ago we stayed at a KOA near Washington DC on this holiday weekend. While that camground was really nice it was overrun by inconsiderate guests who aren't regular campers.
This place was crowded, but we still had a great time with little to worry about. There was about 10 times the normal amount of dogs in the campground this week and for the first time we were one of them. There is a national agility championship going on and many are staying here. It was the reason we chose this location. By nature of the event these dogs are really well trained and having all of these dogs here hasn't been an issue.
I mentioned our spot was perfect and easy to get hooked up. Its close to the office/store, the pool and bathhouses. It is the beginning of the season and the pool is cold! But it is clean and super cared for.
Bathrooms are important to me as we have a pop up. It has a shower, but with my mobility impairments showering in the camper isn't easy. This place has 4 bathrooms near us and one is labeled for handicap access. All of the bathrooms are clean, stocked, and in good condition.
Because of the dirt roads the bathroom floors get dirty/muddy during the day, but they clean them twice a day it looks like. Wear Shower shoes. 3 of the bathrooms have plenty of shelfs so you don't have to put your stuff on the floor. Oddly, the 4th bathroom , the handicappped one doesn't have shelfs but I made do. What it does have is a tub, grab bars, and a shower head that is as high as my 6'1 head. That is important to me as I have spinal fusion and find getting my head under shower heads that are at 5' very difficult. Plenty of hot water and it was well stocked.
I am an early riser and was able to use this bathroom almost every day. On the first Saturday of the trip some lady was giving all 8 of her kids a bath at once, so I had to use one of the other.
The office/store at first appears to be small, but there is a second room and everytime I needed something, I found it at a reasonable price. During our 9 day stay I walked down several times to get some ice cream treat and was greeted warmly each time. During the week we had a few clear nights and there was a pretty decent dark sky so we had a lot of stars to see and having a new moon helped. Also i am now using their wifi which was pretty good after the masses left!
A minor negative point since I mentioned dark skies. The pool and kiddy pool are very nice and clean, but for some reason they put an EXCESSIVELY bright light shining on the kiddy pool at night. I'm sure it is for safety reasons, but jets heading to Boston Logan might mistake itfor a runway. Coming back to our camper from bathhouse is was blinding enough that I couldn't see the road unless I shielded my eyes. I would suggest a shroud around the light so they could keep the pool lit up and not have so much stray light. That really is my biggest complaint so I guess I am having a good time.
The place was in a convienent location and we visited many historical sites when we weren't involved with agility stuff. IT was my wife and I , our daughter and family. (6) I would...
Read moreWe had just bought a used travel trailer and decided to stay somewhere local for a few nights to test it out. This campground had availability, was close by, and had the hookups we were looking for.||To me this seemed like a standard, family campground. My companion has stayed at other KOAs and had higher expectations for amenities (hot tub, adult hours at the pool, etc.).||This campground had a small camp store, a pool, and playground for the kids near the entrance. A "snack shack" was located at the opposite of the campground where you could get your typical griddle food (hamburgs, hotdogs, fries, etc.) and breakfast on Sunday morning. This came in handy when we didn't feel like cooking dinner ourselves the first night. Breakfast Sunday morning was also good.||The evening "entertainment" was make your own sundaes (yummy and reasonably priced), a coin hunt for the kids, or bingo. Not as much as I've experienced at other campgrounds.||We brought our dog and there were a lot of other dogs. There were a lot of stations setup around the campground with waste bags/trash cans which was convenient if you didn't have your own bags with you. The "dog park" is located near the entrance and very small and wasn't much to write home about (some small things setup for "agility"). My dog was more interested in the chickens next door!||The first night was hot and humid and the pool was supposedly open until 8. However, when we walked down at 7, we found it locked up. Upon checking at the office, they said they had to close it early for cleaning (called it a "code brown"). That was disappointing but I'm glad they're on top of that.||I did not use their showers but did use their bathrooms which were hit or miss in terms of cleanliness (obviously, later it the day, more trash/messy they got). It may just be that they only clean them once a day.||Overall, though, everyone was very friendly and also allowed us to have late checkout. I appreciate that. However, I would say this was an average campground, and I think I paid more just for the "KOA" name without some of the amenities you would typically see.||It was fine; but probably nicer, more reasonably priced family campgrounds...
