This is going to be long so just hang on! We used this place years ago under different ownership and it was awful. Horrendous actually. The new ownership has made a phenomenal difference that will keep us coming back and recommending this place to friends. Jason, Barbara and other staff are simply out-of-this-world amazing and represent the owners well. They are hospitable, friendly, welcoming, all the things! Just good, honest ppl that want to effect change. Love it!!!
However, they operate under certain constraints out of their control. My biggest issue is having to pay for showers and having to “check out” ping pong paddles at the front desk. How punitive! I understand totally what they are trying to accomplish but there should be the assumption that all guests will use all amenities no matter what and a system should be in place to make this easy for guests, staff and the site host. Having to trek over other main office and provide an ID to check out ping pong paddles is insane to me. Having to pay for tokens to shower when I’m paying $75 per night to stay here is even crazier. I beg you - take note from higher end resorts that have systems in place that give paying guests “free reign” of the amenities they are paying for by choosing your resort. A door code system, an electronic band system - anything! It’s 2022 - there are solutions out there. As it is, it’s set up in such a way that I have to “prove” I’m “ok” to use the stuff in the rec room and to use the showers. NOT COOL! When I come here I want to feel catered to and I want to feel like I’m on vacation. I just do not appreciate the current system that is in place. If this is not possible then cut prices by at least 60% to justify your position on these issues.
I also do not understand why paying customers need to have their kids put those stickers with flying strings on their helmets. Quite simply this is annoying!! No one is even up at the kid track monitoring activity or participants. Who wants stuff flapping in the wind behind their helmets?? No one. Sorry but this concept is just dumb to me. Not being mean- just being honest. We comply but again, it’s a deterrent that will keep us from staying here often.
Again, my intent is to give the new owners honest feedback from someone who loves camping in the desert. I believe the new owners and management are committed to the riding community and this local region to be the best they can be! And I love that!! We are so happy with this place you just don’t even know!! Such a breath of fresh air. And the food at the restaurant is delish! We are so pleased and happy with this change of hands and look forward to more improvements as time goes on. Job well done!! Keep up the amazing work. We are so thankful for Jason and Barbara’s commitment to the desert riding and...
Read moreThere is a very obvious reason why this park is dying. Who is in charge? Why aren't the rules being enforced? Why is all the foliage dead or dying? Why is the pool constantly being drained ON TO THE SITES? who's making decisions to build expensive storage units when the rest of the park is in shambles? Why are fireworks being shot off in the park at night? Why are there always offroaders racing and stunting at 40mph in the park when the rules clearly state not to? Does this park not care about guest safety? The worst is at night, no one is there to enforce rules. It's loud at night, very loud. People blast their music and shoot off rockets while revving their machines at midnight. Stayed with some friends who had a site. Probably won't come ever back. There is clearly no pride or effort put in to this park..it seems a though it has no one in charge, the park needs a serious overhaul and real management that actually gives a crap. I honestly don't think anyone cares...
Read moreWe have been camping in Ocotillo Wells for 15 years and last weekend was going to be our first time staying here. When I called to make the reservation, I made it clear that we were staying there specifically because of the hot weather since they had a pool. We have young children and while we didn't really need the hookups since we have water and a generator in our trailer, we thought the pool was worth the cost. When we got there, I mentioned that I was excited for the pool and was told that it was closed. I asked if one of our two nights could be free for our inconvenience and was told no. So we ended up camping off Pole Line Rd with only half a tank of water and no generator. I don't think it's right to charge us full price when we were misled about the availability of a pool. Mistakes happen but I feel that I should have received a discount. After this experience, I will not be trying this...
