The Squire Tarbox Inn is truly a dream! We were fortunate enough to book them for our wedding in June 2019. Lisa (inn owner), Jessica (event coordinator), and Tyler (innkeeper) were amazing to work with! They made our big day absolutely magical. TLDR: HAVE YOUR WEDDING HERE! The Squire Tarbox Inn is fantastic and we can't recommend them highly enough.
The people are what make weddings, and their staff are phenomenal. Jessica was able to help us figure out all the little details that we didn't realize we'd need to sort out before the big day. Her calm, effective nature is perfect for ensuring the success of a wedding. Lisa was so much fun to work with! Her enthusiasm and hospitality made our wedding preparations a blast! Tyler, wow. This guy. He was so accommodating and also so much fun! He was able to anticipate all of our needs, and his thoughtful nature made us feel really special. By the end of our wedding weekend, he felt like one of the family. They took such great care of all of us, our guests, and the wedding party!
The grounds are stunning. We had our wedding ceremony behind the inn in the field by the pond. It was the ideal spot for our ~130 guest ceremony! The barn was perfect for the reception. The barn deck is ideal for happy hour and visiting with guests, and the barn interior (especially the gorgeous timber-frame construction and chandeliers) quintessentially embodies the rustic Maine wedding style.
Our reception was SO MUCH FUN!!! The Thistle Inn catered our wedding, and I can't put into words how amazing they are!! The food, bar service, and their staff were outstanding. After cake cutting, we had dancing in the barn, and it was the most fun night of my life.
Many of our wedding party from out of town, and my husband and I, stayed overnight at the Squire Tarbox Inn on our wedding night! The inn's rooms were phenomenal. We all really needed a good night sleep after the wild wedding preparations, and we found it here. The inn was even gracious enough to let my bridesmaids place some simple decorations and personal touches in the room my husband and I stayed in to add to the "bridal suite" atmosphere. This made our night extra special, and made us feel so loved!!!
The morning after the wedding - we were all pretty exhausted. But the Inn staff thought of everything so we could have a leisurely morning to wake up, relax, and enjoy an amazing breakfast. Yeah - the breakfast.... WAS UNBELIEVABLY DELICIOUS. Like TOP 3 breakfasts I have EVER eaten. Some context: I am a cook, I have worked in restaurants and catering, and the culinary arts are my favorite pastime. I have been trying to recreate their egg casserole, and can't even come close to the masterpiece they served us.
If we could do it all again, we would do it many times over, because our wedding was perfect. And the Squire Tarbox Inn (and our caterers the Thistle Inn) made that possible for us. They helped us make our wedding truly our own, and we will be...
Read moreOur well-traveled party of four found the inn overpriced, and we were very disappointed by the lack of attention to detail and the lack of attention to guests’ comfort. We all agreed that the absentee owner was far more interested in decor than hospitality. This has proven true since we have written the owner a long letter and spent an hour on the phone with her in early August, at which point we were assured that we would hear from her after she consulted with co-owner about how to address our being so disappointed on multiple fronts. The inn is severely understaffed, which we learned the first morning. The breakfast is largely a do-it-yourself: toast your Thomas English muffins, get Smuckers jam, get coffee. Maybe plain scrambled eggs are served but no juice or fruit or anything special. There was no mention of supplies we could access in a closet, and even though we stayed four nights we had to search for someone to do a little housekeeping; it was not standard. Bathrooms are so small we used another sink off common area for my husband to shave. No hangers, no chair in a “luxury” room, and hardly any room to move. Guests are expected to choose snacks only from what’s available and pay for them. There is no complimentary afternoon refreshment, nowhere nearby to obtain other food/beverages, so we when arrived the online guide advised we should have brought a cooler, but we had flown to Boston and there was no way to access ice since guests are not supposed to use the one refrigerator. This was a dramatic change from the customer-oriented stay we had enjoyed earlier that week at The Hartwell House in Perkins Cove. The Squire Tarbox Inn owner has been contacted by us THREE TIMES AND WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY compensation or apology even though my family paid for over EIGHT NIGHTS’ stay in July 2022. That proves the lack of any concern for guests’ satisfaction and is appalling. ...
Read moreThis is a very charming inn. A lot of effort has gone into making it a great combination of old charm and modern design. My daughter particularly liked the rawhide cow dresser! The breakfast was delicious and the morning staff very friendly and accommodating. ||Things to know: If you are looking for a personal welcoming and chat from the owners, as you find in many B&Bs, this is not that. It is more like a vrbo experience. We were given directions and a guide and our key was left in the door. The owners have done a wonderful job of making the guide comprehensive and we did not mind, but I know some people look for that specifically so just be aware.||Also, pick your room carefully. We were two adults and two children, unusual for a B&B, so we chose the only room that could accommodate 4, the Mary Margret, which has a loft. The day we arrived the temperatures reached the high 70s, maybe low 80s. Our room faces south. It was very hot! We arrived at 7pm but the in room air conditioners had not been turned on. We turned them both on and went downstairs to read while the rooms cooled. The lift cooled nicely. Unfortunately the main bedroom really didn’t cool to a reasonable temperature until 4am. It was a fitful night’s sleep. The machine also made a club king sound periodically so I think it might be broken. I did let them know when I checked out but I would definitely recommend double checking on this before booking. I suspect this room is probably the worst for solar heat given it’s location. ||The pond was lovely to look at from the window but all the mosquitoes prohibited enjoying it from outside.||I’ve included these details to help travelers who have specific tastes and needs. ||Overall we were very pleased with the inn, it was charming and just the kind of non-hotel-chain lodging we were looking for. We...
