Our family (two adults and two 12 year old b/g twins) spent a week at the Lodge at Whale Pass during July 2024 and everyone had an absolutely fantastic time. The staff at the Lodge was wonderful. They made sure everyone had a good time. Chef Sarah is amazing. The food was terrific and she accommodated all of my son's many food restrictions (he loved the food).||The Lodge is especially good if, like us, you want to do more than just fish. They have great fishing available for those who want to fish all day. At the same time, for people like us who don't want to fish all day, there are so many terrific activities:||- Glacier viewing - both from a boat and from a plane (definitely do the flyover of the glacier). |- Wildlife watching - we saw a lot of wild life - otters, seals, sea lions, whales, bears, bald eagles. Definitely go to the bear preserve. The park service has built a blind where you can watch bears in the wild from very close up.|- Hiking on the island - The island itself is beautiful. Don't miss the high tide path.|- Foraging for salmon berries and goose berries - salmon berries and goose berries grow wild on the island. |- Mountain biking - they have bikes you can borrow to explore the island on road or off road|- Petroglyphs - There are some really interesting petroglyphs in the area. |- Fishing for half a day - we did some lake fishing, river fishing, and some deep sea fishing. None of us had fished before. The staff showed us what to do and we enjoyed the experience.|- Walking along the beach at low tide - There are so many star fish, crabs, and other things to see when the tide is low. |- Enjoying the Lodge itself - they have a game room, steam sauna, Jacuzzi, lovely porch|- Get a massage - Morgan the masseuse was wonderful. ||There were so many great unexpected moments. One day after we had gone fishing, there was a huge sea lion who hung out by the dock eating the remains of our catch (the staff filleted the fish we caught and dumped the remains of the fish into the water off of the dock). The sea lion was so focused on his meal that he paid no attention to us standing on the dock watching and taking photos only a few feet away. ||Several evenings after dinner, my husband and I relaxed in the steam sauna followed by a soak in the Jacuzzi with a glass of wine. The Jacuzzi has a great view of the dock and the water. It is a great place to see the sun set. Our kids were busy enjoying themselves in the game room so everyone was happy.||I cannot recommend the Lodge highly enough. If you have ever wanted to visit Alaska, especially, south east Alaska, this is the...
Read moreMy 11 year old son and I had a wonderful time at The Lodge at Whale Pass. Kevin & Lyn were extremely gracious hosts and their entire staff provided exceptional service. The Lodge has all the amenities you could want, including comfortable bedrooms with private baths, a common great room with fireplace, a hot tub and spa, and a separate recreation room that my son loved with a pool table, darts, chess, ping pong, shuffleboard, foosball and air hockey. The numerous activities available at the Lodge (fishing, wildlife viewing, kayaking, biking, hiking, glacier sightseeing) exceeded the time we had during our stay. The wildlife viewing was incredible as we saw whales, porpoises, otters, seals, sea lions, eagles, deer and a bear. We enjoyed planning our next days adventures after dinner with Kevin who was more than happy to accommodate our desires. I was glad I decided to take a break from fishing and went on the glacier tour which shouldn’t be missed. I’ve visited other fishing specific lodges, but would not bring my son or wife to them as they catered exclusively to hard core fishermen who just wanted to fish from sun up to sun down. I’m happy to say my son had as much fun as I did at the Lodge and didn’t want to leave. If you’re one of those hard core fisherman, but also enjoy nicer accommodations, food and service, you’ll appreciate the Lodge too. The fishing was superb. Captains Lucas and Brian were both professional and productive and it was a joy to be on the boat with them as they still have their passion for fishing. There were lots of high fives on board as we limited on king salmon and halibut. We flew back home with a substantial amount of fish. I had high expectations for our meals at the Lodge and chef Sarah exceeded them with delicious cuisine including fresh Alaskan seafood, original soups & creative desserts. I would highly recommend The Lodge at Whale Pass to anyone interested in an amazing Alaskan adventure with your family...
Read moreThe Lodge at Whale Pass offers an exceptional and unique experience for everyone. In our case (family of 5, and 3 kids), we spent a week at the Lodge. Every team member at the Lodge was friendly, accomodating, engaging, and memorable. We had a wonderful time fishing, hiking, caving, viewing wildlife (whales, bald eagles, black/brown bears, sea otters, sea lions, lots of FISH), experiencing Alaska abord seaplanes, boating, cooking over fire, and more. No matter the weather, the Lodge is prepared to make each day eventful - there is so much to do!
The Lodge itself is spectacular - only accessible by boat or plane, in our experience, which makes it remote and exciting. Food and drinks were excellent, massages, sauna, and hot tub available, and a relaxing setting to sit by the fire, play chess, or simply unwind!
We will be back, 100% sure. Thank you, from...
