The area of this camp ground is absolutely beautiful. We had a rustic spot right in the river. There are plenty of vault toilets and places to get water on this side. The showers are located I. The modern camping side. The check in process was ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS. Yes check in is at 3pm, it’s posted on the door, but making 6 campers wait to come in when the sites are open seems a little off. Or at least let us check in so the line isn’t out the door. The women running the front we as frustrated with us as we all were with them and then when you have to get information from your camper you weren’t expecting they huff and puff and move on to the next person. Camping here doesn’t matter when it comes to the recreation passport either. Be prepared to pay 11 more dollars per day you are there or buy the pass for $40, and it’s not good for a whole year unless you buy it on January 1st. The state park is beautiful but the policies or employees at the campground need some adjustment, and a smile...
Read moreSites are spacious, although not very private- a sprinkling of trees. Great builtup fire pit. Bathrooms are good and we really liked the individual shower rooms. Giving it a 3 for the check in time. 3 pm is WAY too late for checkin. We showed up at 2 hoping to drop our camper and begin sightseeing, but were refused. We drove by our empty site and were told we’d have to use the overflow parking to drop our camper & we’d have to come back in an hour to rehook up and then go to our site. I inquired as to why we couldn’t drop at our empty site and they said ‘it’s policy’. I asked them to help ‘me understand as it seems arbitrary to not let me park at the empty site that will be ‘mine’ in an hour. They said it’s policy and that’s that- who knows maintenance might have to mow or something. The checkin time is way too late and then this felt ridiculous. Many rigs (6-7) waiting in the overflow parking while their sites sit empty and no maintenance of any kind being done to...
Read moreNice quiet state park. Drive a few miles to Paradise for breakfast or dinner if you're not cooking your own. About 20 miles on a nice road to Whitefish Point, or drive to the Lower and Upper Falls. By the way, the State did a great job with the mostly boarded and cool bridge at the Lower Falls. Now you can get right close to the water with all kinds of views. But read the signs. We saw some really stupid people climb over the fence to go into the water. They could have been swept away so easy and been a fatality. Don't pet the Bison mentality. The River mouth camping has kayak rentals for $25 a day. We stayed where we had electricity. There's no water at the sites but you get your water filled at the entrance. There is a fantastic part of the park right on the river if you can go without juice and the showers close by. Bigger lots and wooded. The rangers here are super friendly and helpful. I saw a ranger drive into the woods to give some young people a jump for their...
