Great location. As soon as you drive in to whitefish there it is! Great after a long day of driving or golfing! Rooms were only ok. Very plain. Two queen beds, which is fine if you’ve been married for 50 years. We still prefer one king. Clean enough, but could have been better. It’s the Little things that one notices like the yellow ring around the sink plug😳. Not tough to notice if you’re on housekeeping duty, yet there it was. In the sink. Staring up at me every time I brushed my teeth🤢. Tub was clogged. Front desk sent maintenance up right away, while we were having the breakfast buffet (10/10! B. T. W. Highly recommend!). We came back to the room and the maintenance guy had left our door unlocked and propped open!! We were there on a business trip so my husband’s work computer, and all his expensive golf equipment was left unsecured. Neither one of us was impressed with the lack of security or respect for our belongings! The maintenance guy was gone for about 1/2 hour, so plenty of time for someone to come clean us out! As it was a business trip we ate in the hotel restaurant both evenings. The private room they put us in was beautiful (see picture). The food was great. Service was awful. And not necessarily the servers fault. Whoever was in charge of business dinners should have known better/planned better. Both nights we had ONE server for over 20 people. It took hours between drinks and main course and dessert. All in all it must have been a 4 hour experience. Two hours more than necessary in my opinion. The ambience of Grouse Mountain Lodge was amazing. Warm inviting cozy. Except the smell!! The smell that knocked us in the face as soon as we walked out of the second floor elevator was disgusting! Smelled like someone was boiling cabbage for two days straight! We came to learn it was the smell of wet musty laundry😳. The floors laundry facilities were right by the elevator so the smell was strongest there. It was so bad people were gagging walking down the hallway. ( which was the longest hotel hallway walk we’ve ever had) I’ve included the video for your viewing pleasure. If you have any mobility concerns you may want to consider a room close to the elevator. Tons of parking in the lot. Staff were great. Food was good. In summary I can only give it three stars for the...
Read moreStayed here two nights in July booking both a suite and a regular room. Overall disappointing. I made reservations to be picked up at the airport several weeks in advance and for some reason they were canceled while we were in the air. We waited over an hour at the airport. As we checked in late and tired the receptionist eagerly told us about the restaurant across the hall that would be serving food until 10:00 pm. We rushed upstairs to drop our bags and grab dinner around 7 only to be told by the hostess (who is in earshot of the front desk) that there was no possible way she could seat us this evening and that the kitchen was “hours” behind. In fact we were told we could only use the bar to get a drink to take out on the porch. Yup, weren’t even allowed to sit at the bar which clearly had open seats. We were assigned to a two level room/suite that was at least 90 degrees. The thermostat on the wall was set at 50 degrees. After the four of us searched the suite unsuccessfully for a resolution, we headed down to the desk for help and a ride to find food. After returning from dinner I purchased 4 candy items for our room including a small bag of popcorn that was not marked but rang up $10! Arriving in our room we found both packs of peanut butter cups completely melted and re-hardened. We later found the popcorn to be stale and chewy. I spoke with the desk about how disappointing our stay was after only 3 hours. Response…here is your $3 back for the candy. Although the desk did get some AC moving in the suite, the second floor of the suite never cooled off in the two nights we stayed. The final night my husband went down to the desk to see what breakfast options were available. He happily reported that both the coffee bar and restaurant opened at 6:30. Here we are at 6:30 (we have a 7:00 pick up) and of course the coffee bar doesn’t open until 7:00. Shared my disappointment with the desk AGAIN for another …I’m sorry about that…let me ring up your $1,000 stay. Sadly we have to return here in a week for our night before our return to the airport. No luck finding someplace else as I figured….as this would be the only way places like this...
Read moreGrouse Mountain Lodge is conveniently located a mile from downtown Whitefish and about 30-35 min drive from the entrance of Glacier National Park. The staff was friendly and did their best under the circumstances of having to operate in a pandemic. Even though the usual food services / venues were closed the barista counter in the mornings was convenient. There is coin operated laundry which is helpful (if are staying for longer and if you can get in line to use it). The beds are quite comfortable and the rooms are descent size.
The rooms are dark and depressing - in an entire row of rooms on the first floor you practically can't really open the blinds to let light in because the windows face the parking lot directly.
The AC is Very noisy and it is hard to get a good night sleep if you want to also get some cool air.
The floors are quite squeaky and we could hear every step of the people in the room above us ...sometimes for hours.
The TV is tiny (about the size of one of my desk monitors) for the size of the room and position of the beds. I doubt this would be a big issue for anyone travelling for the outdoor experiences, but thought it is worth mentioning.
The desk/ table in the room is small and really works only for 1 person. This is not convenient if you need to prep some light food items for a day in the mountain or have a quick bite after being out the entire day (a lot of restaurants are closed by 9-10pm) ... Which I am assuming is a common pattern for guests of this property.
The room was clean but can definitely use some work.
Overall, I didn't feel it was worth the price. Before staying at this property for a few nights, we stayed for a week in a hotel in Kalispell, for the same price except we had a nice large studio with fully functional kitchen, breakfast, all amenities and a location which required only a few additional miles of drive to the park. Considering the overall length of our trip we...
