Whether you are looking for a quick stop or an extended stay, Three Rivers RV Resort in Wildwood, Florida is a good refuge. We initially intended to stay one week while we scouted the area, but ended up staying for two months. The resort is very conveniently located - one hour from the Gulf Coast, one hour to the attractions in Orlando, and just a little further to the Atlantic Coast. For those that like to explore the outdoors the Ocala National Forest is just a short drive away and features plenty of options for hiking, camping, fishing, paddling, bird watching, horseback riding and one of the few areas in the state for off-highway driving (ATV/motorbike/etc.) Closer to home, the Brownwood Town Center is just a few miles down the road, with many dining options and live entertainment every night. You are just a few miles off I75 and the Florida Turnpike for easy access to all points to the south.
The amenities include a swimming pool (with ADA access), Clubhouse, very nice laundry facility, shower house, horseshoes, miniature golf course, pickle ball court, bonfire area and shuffle board court. Everything is clean and well maintained. There is no free wifi, but it is available through a third party provider. We found Verizon and Sprint mobile broadband to be acceptable most of the time, with some congestion in the evenings. The office is willing to accept packages, which was a big plus for us. It is pet and kid friendly. This resort is part of the Thousand Trails network, but does accept "retail" customers on a space available basis.
Buy far the best part of 3 Flags is the staff. They are good people and will work with you to meet your needs whether it is adjusting your check out or offering a restaurant recommendation. They quickly become extended family and you can take comfort in knowing they are watching out for you. So if you are looking for a place to stay in Central Florida, stop in and get to know the team at...
Β Β Β Read moreWe love finding the hidden gems at all the Thousand Trails parks we visit and Three Flags gave us one of the best surprises we've found thus far: beauty berries.
In our first day i found a small book in their library called Florida's Incredible Wild Edibles which I picked up and read thinking we'd find time to forage later and no sooner had I walked out of the library to go back to my RV did I find tons of Beauty Berries! (Plant name: Callicarpa Americana)
The book provided a recipe for beauty berry jelly, because eaten raw beauty berries are not the best, so of course we had to try our hand at making this elusive jelly and because our jelly came out so delicious I feel compelled to share it here so others can carefully collect their own berries and enjoy the jelly too.
Beauty Berry Jelly: 1.5 quarts beauty berries - washed 2 qts water Boil 20 minutes and strain to make infusion Use 3 cups of infusion and 1.5 cups of lemon juice, 1 pack of sure-jell, and 4.5-5 cups of sugar. Bring to a second boil and boil for 2 minutes. Remove from burner and allow to stand until foam forms. Skim off foam. Jar or refrigerate immediately.
Emphasis on the careful collection part. We were approached by a staff member who was very friendly and reminded us that it's Florida, there are snakes. Which we didn't see luckily but this location is also alongside a cow pasture and I loved seeing all the cows grazing through my windows in the mornings.
Other notes: Pool was great, mananagemnt was fantastic, everything was very clean and we enjoyed our stay the only exception being the old woman who tried to convince us that beauty berries were toxic after I had eaten about a handful and immediately sent my husband into a panic. Still alive though because they're totally...
Β Β Β Read moreAll I have to say is WOW! I came here camping for a couple days by myself before ringing my 3 children and wife. We went to the rec room to grab some movies and there were people playing bingo. My kids wanted to play on the foosball table and when they tried to play someone screamed at them to βBe Quietβ very rudely. Then the guy at the front desk told us we needed to leave the building because they were playing bingo. The sad part was the manager was in there when it happened and didnβt say anything. When I mentioned to her outside that it was a family orientated place she said βThey like it quiet for their bingoβ wasnβt until an hour later someone showed at our campsite to apologize. It was a public rec room with pool tables, book collection, foosball table and an area for kids, or people to watch movies with couches. We had every right to be in there enjoying any of the activities the Rec room had to offer. If youβre looking for a bunch of full time camping/crusty old people that want nothing to do with kids being here then this would definitely be the place to visit..This is not a family orientated campground at all. It seemed like every couple we walked by gave us dirty looks because we had...
