My family chose to come here this year, for our annual camping weekend. It is absolutely beautiful here, and we do plan on visiting again. The sunrises, and sunsets were amazing! I only have 2 gripes. Gripe #1: we didn't know that we picked the weekend when there was a fishing tournament, and so sleeping in on Saturday morning was a no go, because of the LOUD, and CONTINUOUS noise from the trucks, and boats.🤦🏾‍♀️ Gripe #2: I often wake up during the night, or very early in the morning. At 3:42 Saturday morning, I woke up, and was putting on my shoes to go to the restroom. I unzipped the window to my tent, turned on my head flashlight to peek out, low and behold, I caught a woman peeking inside of my daughter's suv!!🤬😡🤬 She was a caucasian lady, 60ish, white hair. When I yelled, HEY, CAN I HELP YOU, she looked extremely nervous,(BUSTED) looked down at her flashlight, and and said, "Josh?" I told her, NO, this is not Josh, as she turned off her light and just walked off into the dark. I yelled out, "And I'm sure you already knew that!!" I watched her briefly disappear in the dark but then my light caught her picking up a bucket and high tailing it down that dark road, back to her camp. I'm pretty sure, she had hit some of the other camp sites before getting to ours, as we were the last one. When I tell you, that woman was a deer in the headlights when I yelled at her!!🤣 I made it my mission to find out where her camp site was, and it turns out, she and her husband(guessing), were set up right near the restrooms, so I saw her every time I had to go!😂 As far as we could tell, she probably only got away with some snacks. Thank goodness my daughter had locked her doors, because the way that women's face was glued to that window, if she had the chance, she would have definitely taken stuff from inside. Other than that, we had a blast!🥰😊😁

We stayed 1 night and we really enjoyed the park; I would absolutely return and stay longer. We were at campsite 138 which is a very nice site, under a spectacular oak tree, but very far from the bathroom so take that under consideration. The park is very clean, not as much bits of trash that we usually find. The campsite was spacious enough to feel fairly private. The sites that are in the more-wooded area feel tighter although some of those sites have fantastic views and on a hot day it would be nice to be in the shade. There is a fair bit of poison ivy. Boat launch is nice and there's ample parking. Bathrooms are clean. Nice docks to enjoy views Several excellent picnic areas in different locations, one is under large beautiful trees by the boat launch, one under trees in the field. Many beautiful tent sites and many glamping tents right on the water! Dog friendly as long as they are leashed. Beautiful trails along the water and a few beaches with jetties so young children can swim safely. What a wonderful find!

Great little park to camp and get away. Still close enough to most major attractions in the area that it’s not too far of a drive. Don’t miss the sunsets down by the boat ramp! They seem to be a bit loose on their rules though. Campers were getting away with having more vehicles on site than allowed. We also had someone park a boat in front of our site, making it difficult to get out on check-out day. Park workers had been driving around multiple times, so you can’t say they didn’t know about it. Despite that, we do plan to return. One major suggestion is that they need to level the dump station. As of this posting, it’s graded downward, so you won’t be able to get everything out of your tanks. Another suggestion is that they provide individual private changing areas for the showers instead of the one communal changing area. The park is also very dog friendly. Many campers could be seen out walking their dogs.

This is becoming one of my favorite local park/ campgrounds. I love that it’s right on the water. Since we live about 40 minutes away I consider it a local park for camping purposes. My recent experience was good- I had to reschedule twice due to rain outs and they were very understanding and accommodating (I gave them about 48 hours notice in both cases). The location is great- the wonderful waterfront sites were perfect because my partner is injured and not very mobile so this gave us a beautiful view right at the site that one could sit for hours and enjoy the wildlife and scenery. It is right on the capital trail makes it great for biking and a nice boat ramp makes it great for boating/ kayaking. It has a very nice swimming pool and splash pad, great for families and included in camping price. Price by the way was quite reasonable. Bathrooms are clean and modernized. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

A few small criticisms, it is not clearly stated in the campground list of features if the sites have grills or fire rings or not. I had to look at site pictures, some of which show the fire rings to figure that out. Unfortunately, while the sites all appear to have them where we were, our site was the only one missing one. Had to relocate from another empty site since we expected it from the pictures and needed for cooking. Either cemented in shelter style grills or the heavier fire rings with multiple grill heights may help prevent grills being moved from sites. Bathrooms are clean and reasonably modernized but for some odd reason the plumber installed the toilets in the men’s bathroom stalls a ft+ from the wall and with them being enlongated bowls, it is an extremely cramped and kind of awkward experience to use the stalls with elbows touching the toilet paper dispenser and knees almost touching the door. Again, minor criticism, not a big deal in the grand scheme of the park. Another thing, they book small rv / popup sites with electric only but they don’t provide a water spigot for you to fill your tank with potable water. You could use the dump station water but that is never recommended. The staff was understanding however and allowed me to temporarily use an unoccupied site that had water access. I just feel plenty of people wouldn’t want to ride down the highway with full water tanks and an open use water spigot accessible to trailers would be nice. Speaking of trailers, my last mini complaint is a box they built around the sewage dump station. The dump station is fine but with the 2x6’s framing around it, it was impossible to get a reasonable grade to dump my tanks. I’m sure it’s to keep overflows/ backups contained but they should raise up the driveway as not every Rv has a sewer line drain a foot or more above the ground. Especially since the RV’s more likely to use this dump station are the smaller ones that can fit into the smaller sites that don’t have full hookups.

As you can see from my rating, these minor criticisms don’t take away from the overall experience and I feel this park is well worth a...

I went there today with my wife and my nine year old daughter we arrived at 1130 and my brother and my son went fishing while they swam but we met up later for lunch around 130 pm and I was very disappointed what had happened when arriving there we had got there in time for my daughter and my wife to get in the swimming area because they were at max capacity of people we paid the admission fee and off they went my daughter who had swimming lesson can swim on her own even at 9 ft deep with no problem in order to slide down the slide you have to pass a swimming test basically dog paddle in one spot for a min in 6 ft deep area well that didn’t happen she paddle for over 2 min and she was wore out and her head went under and life guard fail her and she wasn’t able to go down the slide she was upset but then came to meet up for lunch I ask the lifeguard since they didn’t give out bracket to let the worker know you paid to go directly across the pool where a vendor had set up to get something to eat and they said yes we can come back in since we had sign their paper sheet we had lunch together and then my wife and daughter went back in to swim some more nope that didn’t happen at all they told us they were at max capacity I told them we paid the money and our name is in the register book they refused to let my wife and daughter back in and didn’t offer us a refund for the short time we were there I’m suggest not to go there the fishing wasn’t good down their the swimming area suck due to the lifeguard not passing my daughter when she swam for over a min and the life guard refused to help my wife to put on a life jacket for my daughter since she just wanted to float I didn’t expect the service we recived today and no one should ever go there at all we shouldn’t have been treated the way we did today but made the best out of it the best place to go for camping used to be James town beach campsite in Jamestown Va I hope they put swimming pool back they had excellent camp site and still go there today I just wanted to let you know if I could give this place a minus...

Stay here for almost a week in September of 2025. Booked the waterfront site #321 which stated it would work for 40ft RV's. We are at 46'+ and were able to make it work. I measured the site via Google Earth prior to booking and we indeed fit without issues. The interior road system is INCREDIBLY tight for big rigs when the campground is busy or full. When empty, navigating the one way road is no problem. Because we are so large, we ended up needing to exit the wrong way (via the entrance) because we couldn't make the final turn with a large tree had we gone the correct route. Here's our list of pro's and con's!

Pro's:

  1. Excellent location. Easy access to Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown.
  2. FHU and Water/Electric sites. Utilities had easy access in site #321.
  3. Easy shopping, good eateries near by.
  4. The park itself has lots to do with (including a pool during the summer). Includes a boat launch which we saw many campers taking advantage of.
  5. Our particular site was huge and could easily fit a 50' rig without sticking out too far. Plenty of room to fit (2) vehicles next to the rig as well.
  6. Being a city/county park, they have festivals on weekends sometimes.

Con's:

  1. Skinny interior roads with tree's around corners. Not ideal.
  2. Our site surface was a mixture of old gravel, sand, and patchy grass.
  3. No water access per se from our waterfront site. Too far up - We'd have to walk down through the dog park area to reach the small wooden dock.
  4. Our site was quite unloved side to side. Sewer ended up pretty far away so we could get as level as possible. We roll with 40' of hose just in case and rarely need to use more than (2) 10' but in this case, we ended up having to use all 40'.

Overall, we were happy with our 6 night stay. Park was empty outside of weekends. We'd stay here again, although, we'd probably try and find a park with a few...
