We always try to give a very honest and informative review. This place could probably be a very nice place to stay and we were looking forward to our time here. We booked a 6 night stay here. Tropical storm Henri hit the state on Sunday and we were scheduled to check in Monday. We called at 8:30am to see if they had power and site was not flooded, whomever answered said he was not at the campground yet. We called back at 11:30am, he said he was still not there and would call us back. He did call back pretty quickly and said they had power and our site was fine. I confirmed it was big enough for our 34 foot rig and not flooded he said it was good. We drove to the campground arriving around 5:30pm, it was raining. Upon inspection our entire site was flooded and deep mud and not a level site at all. It was a back in site #32. First there is another site behind it and we would have not fit and even if we squeezed it in there, it was not level at all and we would have sunk in mud and to try to level in calf high mid would be impossible, front jack and stabilizers would just sink in and I'm sure would have gotten stuck trying to even back in. We told the man there's no way we can get into that site and it's flooded out and mud up to mid calf. I asked about another site and was told they had nothing else. I understand the campground has no control of the weather, but they do have control over visually inspecting a site after a major storm to inform people if the site is safe and accessible and the fact we even called to verify makes it even more discouraging. So, we sat there in the rain, trying to figure out were we could stay because now it's 6pm and getting later and later. We ended up calling around and finding a place. Our honest opinion is Wilderness Lake could have done better by simply inspecting the site, it is right across from the office. We wish we could have given this a better review, but sadly they fell short on their end. The photo shows the deep mud and the whole ground was...
Read moreFirst camping trip in my pop up trailer was last week at Wilderness Lake Campground. When we checked in the owner had no record of my deposit/VENMO payment and asked for all 3 nights in payment. When I mentioned I paid the deposit via VENMO he said "I guess I'll have to take your word for it." As we were checking in we purchased 3 bundles of firewood, one for each night. We received no firewood. When I asked for my money back on day 3 he readily handed me a $20 and later that day someone brought wood to our site. Rain storm to follow. Speaking of sites.....when we arrived we were shown to the most unlikely site for a pop up (reserved 2 months ago) which was slanted and ridiculous to back down into (in between two pine trees next to the lake drop off and a stone wall on the other side) He couldn't really help us and kept insisting we face the other way and keep our SUV connected the entire time. This would not have allowed us to leave the campground for 4 days and also face a stone wall/directly into the neighbors screenhouse. We sent him on his way and had to work it out ourselves, backing in and out and up and down for about 30 minutes until we got a little slanted spot to face the LAKE. When he returned later he asked "How did you get in there????" The lake is small but nice, there are some free kayaks and canoes and there are three showers and bathrooms in the Ladies Room. The sites in general seem to cater to just big RVs parked there forever. Nothing seems to be marked except SITE 16 which is where he crammed us. We met some nice neighbors and the latest gal pulling in was also hassled about where her spot was and where she should be set up. Something that could be solved with a SHARPIE. We couldn't get any ice because the camp store was closed most days. People trying to check in or pay for wood, etc. were SOL most of the time we were there. We had fun on our own but will not be returning and just for the record I am not normally a complainer or a...
Read moreTo start, staff when above and beyond to get us a spot considering I made the reservation on Friday Memorial Weekend. Upon arrival, the staff was top notch! Super friendly, very accommodating and knowledgeable, they even brought firewood to our location for a small fee... Really? You can't beat that kind of a service.
Our designated area was smack right down on the lake/pond which was somewhat secluded by trees and brush, right next to a small beach. Once we settled in, of course, I had to break out the fishing pole and guess what? Minutes later on the end of the hook, I found a good looking "Pike" catch and release only. According to the staff, there is some decent size Bass, Catfish, Panfish.
Included at your spot is a fireplace. Naturally towards the night, I started a little fire. Nothing beats the smell of burning wood and the absence of city noises, but rather being surrounded by natures offerings of serenity and tranquility.
Only Con that I found and I'm not really sure if it's a con, but rather a preference. Live band music was a bit annoying at times when trying to get in touch with nature. But if I'm not mistaken it's only on Holliday Weekends, don't quote me on that tho.
For the seekers of social mingling, there is a live band, cookouts, games, etc. This place has it all, and more importantly very affordable in contrast to other local campgrounds.
Without a doubt we will be back there soon, in fact, I just might make some reservations as soon as this write up is done...
I hope this review will shed some light on what to expect at the "Wilderness Lake Campground & Resort."
I definitely recommend this campground to my friends, but since I don't have any, I highly recommend this to you...
