Before sharing our experience, I want to provide some context. This was our first time visiting this park and resort. My wife, two children, and I traveled with extended family—another couple, their child, and their dog. We booked two cabins and paid separately, however, were traveling together as a group.
We arrived around 3:00 p.m. and were greeted at check-in by a staff member who had us sign three waivers. We received a map and were directed to our cabins. Locating the cabins was slightly challenging, as the roads and paths were not clearly marked. Similarly, there was no visible signage designating where to park. Due to the heat, my wife and I decided to cool off at the splash pad with our son while our extended family continued unpacking.
Another couple at the splash pad had two dogs with them playing in the water. As dog owners and dog lovers ourselves—and given the park advertises itself as pet-friendly—we thought it was great that dogs were allowed in the splash pad area.
About 20 minutes later, we returned to the splash pad with our extended family and their dog, who was leashed in a shaded area near the fence, not in the water. A man—unidentified by uniform or name badge—approached and abruptly demanded that the dog be removed. He introduced himself as the "owner" and stated, “Get the dog outta here.” Though surprised by the tone, our family complied and apologized, asking if there was a more appropriate place to keep the dog. The response: “Just not in here or any other camp sites. I don’t care where else you tie the dog up.”
We moved the dog to the outside of the splash pad fence, near a concrete pad, where there were still no signs restricting access. The same individual returned and escalated the situation, now shouting, “You need to get your dog the hell out of there!” While remaining calm, our family member asked for clarification and a copy of the rules.
When asked if there was someone else we could speak with, he replied, “You can speak to the manager, but you don’t want to talk to her. She’s meaner than me.” Our family member chose to proceed anyway and went to the office with the "owner" to speak with the "manager."
After this, multiple staff members in golf carts were observed watching us from the main office. We chose to walk back to our cabins and continue the conversation with each other there. Staff were observed following us to our cabins. At one point, a staff member stopped near our cabin, made eye contact, pulled out a phone, appeared to message someone, smiled, and drove off. These repeated behaviors made us feel deeply uncomfortable, as though we were being monitored or targeted.
Eventually, our family member’s wife attempted to have a calm and productive discussion with the manager. Unfortunately, the manager’s demeanor was condescending and dismissive. When our family member’s wife expressed that we felt unsafe and harassed, the manager stated, “If you don’t feel safe, you can leave.” When asked if a refund would be issued, the manager confirmed and agreed it would. Given the situation, we decided to leave the park altogether.
Since it was after 7:00pm, we had to call the after hours service line. During the call, the manager agreed to refund our extended family—but not us. When I attempted to join the call to explain that we were traveling together and had all been impacted by the same situation, she cut me off, told me I was not part of the agreement, and refused to discuss the matter further. I tried to calmly explain that I had been present for much of the incident, but she ended the call abruptly, saying, “How I run my business is of no concern to you. I’m hanging up now" and hung up on me.
We left feeling disrespected, misrepresented, harassed, unvalidated, and targeted. We complied with every request made of us, never raised our voices, and attempted multiple times to resolve the matter in a respectful way. The treatment we received was inappropriate, unnecessary, and, frankly, VERY unprofessional. Unfortunately, we will not be returning and urge...
Read moreThis was our first time visiting the Mendocino Redwoods. We took our trailer for 4 nights. We ended up staying in 27, we originally had 21 but they were able to accommodate us with a change. There was no shade in 21 during the day. I would love to see more sites have full hookups.
First, I will start with the campsite. 27 in by far the best in the area. I felt like it had the largest patio, best shade, and you were facing the cabins on the end cap so you didn't feel like someone was always looking in your site. There was only one cabin occupied while we were there. Unfortunately this year the yellowjackets were out of control and so that was the only downfall. GREAT VIEW of the mountains, we also had a lightning show on the last night. 27 is a full hookup site as well.
Activities: The activities were in full swing while we were there. The stay was 9/15-9/19 to give reference. The splash pad was active, the people who worked there would turn it on when we asked. The pool was perfect in my opinion, very clean, it was mid 80s and 90s during our stay. There also had a kid pool at 1.5 ft deep, it was probably a 10 by 10 pool. It was perfect for my kids. They also had a hottub. There was an animal spot where there were two goats, two pigs, a few bunnies. Nice to see some sweet animals hanging around. Next to the petting zoo was the tube area. It was decent size, I was kind of surprised by it. Kids spent hours in there. Great obstacle course for them. Playgrounds were pretty run down and I wouldn't call one a playground. I would love to see more renovations in that aspect. They had an 18 hole mini golf course, that was actually pretty hard lol. It is free when you stay, you go to the front desk to get balls and clubs. You just need to return by the end of the day. Great fun. They have a pond for fishing, it's a decent size pond and the kids loved it. A short walk from the RV site, not even 5 minutes. They sell live worms and other accessories at the store. In the back of the park there is an RC track. We used a small RC on it which was cool but the main attraction was my kids riding their bikes. It's great to have them do laps, with jumps and turns. Really good spot. You can hike around the pond which is .5 mile loop, very steep in some areas. They do have a disc golf course which leads you around the loop. I believe it's 18 holes but most holes are not maintained anymore and some paths to the holes are not maintained. There are still a good amount of holes if you wanted to.
Things to do nearby: The skunk train does operate a few times a week and it does have holiday themes depending on the time you go. The skunk train DOES pick up in the campsite which is super cool. The kids loved watching it, however it's expensive of around $70 per person. Willits is the nearby city, plenty of shops to get things for you camping trip if you need.
Overall: We loved this place. It was clean, the activities were so much fun for the kids. The sites were clean and spacious, if you got the right one! 27 is the best! The people who worked there were super nice and kept up on upkeep on buildings/trash/bathrooms. We will be going back, we really enjoyed our stay. I do wish some of the "arcades" were open, there were a handful of buildings that were locked up, like arcades and other activates. We didn't look much into it with our kids being young. I would recommend this place to anyone. Overall...
Read moreThis park is an very old KOA park. the roads need to be fixed, there are leafs and dust and dirt every where. It’s way out from the town and its a disaster of a park. First the guy who tried to check us in had no Idea how to work the Camp check in. This parks is extremely old and designed for smaller rv’s not 40ft plus and tow vehicle. I asked to see the sites and there were kids and people every where and the rv’s spots were like being in a sardine can, stacked up right next to each other. Don’t get me wrong families need to have fun, but this park was like Disney land, jammed up with rv’s and people. When asked how to get our rv site through the gate people had chairs and parties going on, that would require all of them to move out of the street so we could pass. This reservation was made well in advance and I asked if they had space for a large rv. Since we did not stay they took the first night. Bout if you change your dates, they also charge $10.00 for any changes. The pictures of this camp ground are not what the campground is today. It’s young adults running a campground without adult supervision!! ONE HOT MESS of stupid. When asked how to turn around the guy at the front office still had no clue. There is a huge FIRE Hazard, if there was an emergency and had to get all these rv’s and people out. This park is like a massive Disneyland gone on Steroids. There were so many people in the park, this park is one massive Covid- spread. If you feel that you need to be in a crazy land and want your kids running all over the place, then this is the place for you. If you have a large RV DO NOT STAY HERE.!! reply from management is a total joke These people have no clue on how to run an RV park. Not only did I make a reservation back in June of 2022 we had RV problems and had to change the reservation which cost me $10.00 for the change in the date. and the full night stay, since they could not accommodate a 40ft rv. ( i have the credit cards statements to prove the charges) which I did not stay due the above comments. The lie they tell you is they have room for 40ft rv is not the truth. The site they were providing was for a 25ft trailer. In june I called to make sure they had a site for a total of 60 feet and they assured me this was good. then in Oct 22nd we arrived they charge me the full one night stay since we could not get the rv in the site they provided us. I do not need boost my reviews as this rv parks is...
